Neighbourhood
The Wilderness Holiday Home has stunning views over natural forests and the majestic Outeniqua Mountains, blending the breathtaking Wilderness with the Garden Route’s lesser-known farm lifestyle. Nest door and just down the road, grazing cows and horses add to the authentic farm experience.
For those who enjoy cycling or trail running, kilometres of well-maintained single tracks run through the forest and a short distance away, a majestic waterfall provides an adventurous hiking destination.
Our close neighbours- Oakhurst Farm allow children (and adults!) to experience milking their cows in the early mornings or late afternoons...
The Wilderness area offers you the chance to explore the iconic Garden Route, renowned for its long stretches of unspoiled beaches- perfect for swimming or surfing- rivers, lakes, and lagoons – truly a nature lover’s paradise. The famous ‘Map of Africa’ viewpoint at Wilderness Heights provides a breathtaking vista of the Kaaimans River valley, while Dolphin Point at the top of Kaaimans Pass offers magnificent ocean views and regular sightings of whales and dolphins during the season.
There is so much to do in the area that you will be spoilt for choice. Hiking, dolphin and whale watching, hang gliding, paragliding, horse riding, mountain biking, scenic drives, the Wilderness Lakes Art Route, and ferry cruises all deserve a spot on your Wilderness bucket list. For those who enjoy shopping, Wilderness also features many craft markets selling beautiful, locally made items.
Don't forget the Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour where you can slide between platforms built high up in the giant Outenqiua 700-year old Yellowwood Trees for a fun-filled adventure for young and old!

Getting to my home
Wilderness is located on South Africa’s southern coast and is part of the well known “Garden Route”. It’s less than 15km (10 miles) east of George, a large town. The nearest large city is Port Elizabeth (PE), approximately 300km (190 miles) to the east. Cape Town is 450km (280 miles) to the west of Wilderness.
Wilderness is easy to access by road as the main N2 highway is close by. The drive along the N2 from Cape Town generally takes around 4-5 hours (excluding stops), and from PE to Wilderness it’s roughly a 3 hour drive.
If you are travelling on holiday from overseas, you would most likely want to fly into Cape Town and hire a car there. After spending some time in Cape Town, you could then make the drive to Wilderness.
If you would rather avoid a long road trip, George airport (which offers car hire) is just a 20 minute drive from Wilderness. You can fly to George from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. There are no international flights to or from George.

Getting Around
We recommend a car hire. As with most of South Africa, car hire is strongly recommended as we do not have any regular public transport systems.

We are an active, adventure-loving family of four- my husband and I adore the mountains and the sea, our little boy of 10 loves anything to do with bikes and balls and our 7 year old daughter enjoys every adventure. We want to introduce our children to the world- people, cultures, scenery, experiences- that can enrich their lives and fill their memory banks.
We live in the exquisite region of the Midlands in South Africa. Both my husband and I travelled extensively and lived overseas (Canada, UK, Dubai, Grand Cayman and Argentina) for many years before settling down and having children. Rowan runs an engineering business and I am a marketing professional. We chose the town of Hilton as it is the gateway to the Midlands and is a beautiful little village, very family friendly and surrounded by forests and nature. We are also only 1-2 hours from all the beaches (warm seas all year round), 2 hours from some of the best safari parks (Big 5 Game viewing) and 2 hours from our majestic Drakensberg mountain range. We have a holiday home in one of the most unspoilt beach towns along the KZN coastline called Southbroom and we would be happy for you to use it whilst you visit SA.
We cannot wait to pass on the gift of travel to our children and we look forward to seeing them experience new countries and immerse themselves in new cultures!
