General Overview
Our recently renovated 3-bedroom apartment in Oude Westhof is available from time to time. We are minimalists, so there's just enough of everything, making it lovely and clutter-free. 2 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk to a shopping centre with everything you need (Majik Forest), as well as great hiking opportunities in the Majik Forest Reserve. 20-25 minutes drive into Cape Town and the V&A Waterfront, and 40 minutes to the winelands of Stellenbosch, even closer to our local vineyards behind our house (10 minutes), e.g. Nitida, Bloemendal etc.
The Space
Located in a secure complex of 34 units. Our unit has an open plan living room and kitchen. 3 bedrooms: 2 rooms with beds (4 x king singles in total = 100cm x 200cm each bed) and 1 bedroom as a dedicated office space. 2 bathrooms of which 1 is ensuite. Great BBQ room with view over the distant Hottentots-Holland mountains. Small, very private garden. Secure garage with automatic door below the unit.
Guest Access
All on one level, except entry into the unit is up 15 stairs.
Notes
- Although there are 3 bedrooms and 4 x king single beds, and enough dining/outdoor seating space for 4 x people, it's the TV/lounge room that is somewhat restricted with only 2 x recliner seats available.
- Main bedroom has 2 x king single beds (3/4 beds) pushed together, each on a separate bed base. Ceiling fan.
- The 2nd bedroom has 2 x king single beds (3/4 beds) stacked - can either be used as 1 bed, or unstacked as 2 separate beds. You are welcome to move the one bed into the games room for more privacy. Also contains a huge desk that looks out onto our garden. Ceiling fan.
- The third bedroom has a desk setup and gaming rig (no bed). Ceiling fan.
- This is a shoe-free house, please only accept if you can respect this. It keeps the house beautifully clean :)
- The photos may look a bit 'bare', as this is a secondary residence and only moved in Oct 2024, so art haven't been put up on the wall yet. All bedding, towels etc. of course provided, we have enough!

Neighbourhood
- Lovely hilly suburb, where you will see lots of walkers/joggers in the mornings and after work. Our favourite hikes are in Majik Forest Reserve behind our house.
- Small shopping centre with Woolworths Food, large Spar, Dis-chem chemist and several restaurants (fantastic steakhouse, and take-away pizza, sushi, greek) are 2 minutes by car or 15 by foot. Larger Tygervalley Mall is only 7 minutes by car.
- Quick drive into Cape Town city centre, where Table Mountain and V&A Waterfront awaits.
- The closest beach is Bloubergstrand - about 30 minutes away by car.
- Ubers readily available. Public transport not reliable.
Getting to my home
Closest airport is Cape Town International Airport, 30 minutes. Best to rent a car for your stay in South Africa.
Use of our small car may be discussed.

Thank you, Annette, for a wonderful home exchange experience.
What made it truly excellent for me was the direct, efficient, and pleasant communication, along with your quick responsiveness and great care for my flat. I sincerely appreciate your efforts — it means a lot to me, and once again, you have proven that members of the PLU community genuinely care 😊.
The apartment was left in a spotless state — clean and just ready for me to unpack my suitcases. Thank you so much! My plants definitely loved staying with you; they have so many offsprings now that I’ll need to start sharing some with my friends.
Although I haven't met Annette and Brendon in person, there was a wonderful vibe during this exchange. It felt as if they could read my thoughts in a way I never expected.
Thank you for being such great guests. I highly recommend you to other members of the PLU community!
What a great pleasure it was to have Annette and Brendon staying in our apartment. Lovely people, very well organised and with incredible travel spirit. We got inspired by their stories. It was the first time we shared our new place with people we didn't know - but immediately after meeting them it felt we had friends taking care of our place. And they did - they left our place in perfect state. It was a short stay of only 5 days. But as they love Amsterdam and still may want to discover more, we hope to see them back in the coming years. Brendon and Annette, you will always be welcome.
Annette took great care of our place and looked after the kitties too! Everything was in perfect order when we returned. Many thanks Annette.
Thank you so much Monika, we had a fantastic time in your Chatillon apartment. It is perfect for 1-2 people. We stayed a whole month, and to be honest, we had so much fun in the immediate vicinity, that we only went into the Paris city centre sights 1-2 times per week! The surrounding villages have so much to offer in terms of food, supermarkets, markets and just wandering around and finding local walks and historical buildings, that it was a pleasure to explore the suburbs. The house was well equipped with everything we needed and beautifully decorated, obviously done with much love and care. We found the local shopkeepers and waitstaff friendly and always happy to assist in English, contrary to believe. We had a blast.
Tip 1: Although initially the RER B feels like a long train ride, you get used to it quite quickly, and it's the most cost effective way to get into the city (Eur2.50 if you walk 15 minutes to the station). This takes you straight to Notre Dame. Alternatively, for only Eur2.00, you can take trams+bus combinations into the city for up to 90 minutes.
Tip 2: Within a 10 minute walk from the house, you can see the sparkling Eiffel tower (from nightfall every hour, on the hour for 5 minutes) - just walk to the Bridge above the T6 tram stop called Parc André-Malraux- and enjoy the view :)
Tip 3: We participated in some lovely French culinary classes - have a look online, it really cements the visit.
I believe we might have found the best PLU in Amsterdam! Fantastic small house, perfect for 1-3 people, in the heart of the Jordaan, with lots of little shops, eateries and bars. The home is new and very well decorated with personal effects from their times abroad. It is also a blessing to have a lift in the house, so as not to struggle with luggage up and down stairs - pretty unusual for the Netherlands. We would definitely exchange again where possible. Thanks Lizette and Arnold!
We had a fantastic time at Carol and Jed's beautiful Inner West Rozelle home. The home is great to relax in, with loads of interesting books and CD's. It is also easy to get around Sydney as a base. The Bay Run was a firm favourite (around a 9km roundtrip from their home). The cats were lovely, unfortunately they took nearly 5 days to get familiar with us, we could have had many more cuddles! Good proximity to restaurants, cafes and much more. Thanks for having us!
Thanks for leaving our home so nice and clean, we trust you had a good time here in our little home.

Brendon and I are in our 40's and lucky enough to be digital nomads. We travel a lot, mostly by way of housesitting or Airbnb's, with the occasional home exchange opportunity. Our Cape Town home is available for exchanges mostly between March - September, as we split our time between Europe and South Africa. But please enquire for other periods as well, we are pretty flexible.
