Neighbourhood
Our house is a quiet sanctuary in the North Shore mountains up above the City of Vancouver. There are beautiful hikes and trails on our doorstep. A quick 5-minute walk down the street will bring you to our favourite local coffee shop - and if you have kids there is a playground and sports field right next door to entertain them while you sit and drink your hot coffee. You can then stroll to the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge or walk around Rice Lake. For the days you want to stay close to home, there are several recreation centres close by with gyms and pools and skating rinks that are open to the public and are very inexpensive. Our home literally backs onto the forest and is no more than a 20-minute drive to the bigger ski mountains (world renowned for mountain biking in the warmer months, and sking in the winter), golf courses, The Capilano Suspension Bridge, beaches, and the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal which can take you further on your adventures to Vancouver Island or the Sunshine Coast. Squamish is a 45-minute drive away and Whistler is under two hours away.
All year round you have access to the following attractions close by: (many have special exhibits and light displays/walks over the Christmas Season)
- The Vancouver Aquarium
- Science World
- Vancouver Art Gallery
- Capilano Suspension Bridge
- Grouse Mountain
- Stanley Park
- Van Dusen Botanical Garden
- The North Shore Mountains (Grouse, Cypress, & Seymour)
- Britannia Mine Museum (Squamish)
At the University of British Columbia, you will find the:
- Beaty Biodiversity Museum
- Museum of Anthropology
- Nitobe Memorial Garden
- UBC Botanical Garden
In the summer months, our home puts you close to the numerous events available to you in the city. To name a few:
- Playland & the PNE
- The Jazz Festival
- The Celebration of Lights (four nights of amazing fireworks)
- Nat Bailey Stadium for some Canadians baseball
- The Richmond night market
Not to mention all the beaches, outdoor pools, forests, rivers, and mountains and many many other attractions downtown and surrounding areas.
Getting around
Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is approximately an hour from our home by car. It is also very accessible by public transit or taxi if necessary.
There is a bus stop a block away from our home, but if you intend to ski, or mountain bike, or just explore around the city, we would highly recommend renting a car for the duration of your stay. (Depending on the exchange situation we may be able to exchange cars for your stay). There are car2go and other similar car sharing services near by but the boundary currently doesn't reach our home. Our local mall is a 5-minute drive away with everything you could need (groceries, library, restaurants, liquor store, coffee shops, etc.)

Emma & Tyler
We love to travel and are excited to discover new (or old) places as we swap our home with other like-minded adventurers. We have now completed several exchanges and it has been so wonderful to host people in our home. Tyler lived in Brazil for 6 months and can get by with his broken Portuguese. Emma was born and raised in the UK, but moved to Canada in 2003. We would love to have a place to stay when we go back to visit friends and family. Our children are great travellers and are conscientious young people who will treat your home and the things inside your home carefully.
We have been fortunate enough to travel to India, Bhutan, Hong Kong, South Africa, Eswatini, Borneo, Hawai, Guatemala, & Mexico.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
