Our home is located in Silver Lake, just 1 block from the Silver Lake Reservoir and its 2-mile walking path with beautiful views in all directions. Silver Lake is sometimes described as "the Brooklyn of LA" for its artsy feel and independent businesses. We're situated on a quiet residential street near the bottom of the sprawling Silver Lake Hills, close enough to walk to several nearby shops (a rarity in LA!), but quiet enough to feel totally private.
The Space
We have 2 bedrooms (both with queen-sized beds and closets) and a full bathroom (with a Toto toilet!) on the main level, and an upper lofted room and completely separate lower large studio, both of which are currently set up as office spaces. The space is bungalow-like, with original wood floors, arched doors, and cove ceilings. The kitchen is well-stocked (a must for a cookbook author!), with stainless steel appliances, plenty of storage space, and a little breakfast nook next to the full dining room with Danish Midcentury table and chairs. The living room has a comfy Midcentury couch, many books, a record player + lots of listening options, and a projector with a full-sized screen and all the streaming channels you need. The upstairs loft has large built-in bay window, a giant closet, and books everywhere. Outside, a little pathway leads out to a large lower deck and completely separate lower studio with full bathroom. The deck has multiple built-in seating areas, views of the Silver Lake Hills, and a lemon tree. There's a washer/dryer in the attached garage, along with the Saab :)

Notes
The main floor is ground level (with 3-4 stairs leading to the front door), with one flight of stairs leading upstairs to the loft/office, and another narrow flight of stairs outside leading down to the deck and separate studio.
We have a dog who does shed, so people with allergies should be aware. Our home is not baby-proof and is probably suited best for those traveling without children or those with older kids.

Neighbourhood
Walking distance to neighborhood staples like LaMill Coffee, L & E Oyster Bar, Botanica, Bar Siesta, and the Silver Lake Reservoir walking path and dog park! A Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Gelson's are all within a 5 min drive. 10-20 min to some amazing hikes in the nearby mountains, 30-45 min to the beaches.
Getting to my home
LAX is the closest major international airport, it's about a 40-60 min drive depending on traffic; Burbank is a much closer/smaller regional airport.
Nearest airport
LAX- 40-60 min; Burbank - 20 min.
Getting Around
Unfortunately public transportation isn't great in LA so outside of the walkable shops mentioned above, we would recommend renting a car; I can make mine (a 2019 Honda Civic) available upon request.

Longtime New Yorker now living on the east side of LA with my partner (Mike) and gently graying shepherd pup (Stella). I'm a cookbook author/food journalist by trade, so food and cooking is obviously a huge part of my life! I also own a vintage Saab convertible (if you know, you know) and box for fun. Primarily joining this site to search for pet-friendly NY/LA home swaps in the spring/summer of 2025--we are homesick and looking to spend a little time back east.
