General Overview
We have a 4-bedroom house with private garden in SE central Portland in Ladd's Addition- a neighborhood built around 4 rose gardens, and a central round garden. Our house is a 10-minute walk to two high streets, Division and Hawthorne, with plenty of awesome restaurants, bars, grocery stores, boutiques and thrift stores, for which Portland is famous.
The Space
Large, light-filled living room with TV and gas fireplace. An alcove off of the dining room has two bedrooms and a bathroom, with a bathtub and shower.
The kitchen is retro 50s-style kitchen with original wood cabinets and new floor and counters, with plenty of amenities.
The master bedroom is a converted attic space with its own bathroom, with a deep tub.
We also have a second living room/den in the basement with an additional guest bedroom with two single beds, and a half bathroom.
We have a lovely private back garden with a big patio space, and a garage that houses some bikes that you can use.
Portland is within a 2-hour drive of the Oregon beaches, national forests, Mount Hood, Mount Saint Helens, the Olympic Peninsula, and the Columbia River Gorge. Beauty and outdoor activities are endless.
Guest Access
3 floors- main floor, attic, and basement.
Notes
We have two cats, Simon, a 6-year old gentle giant tuxedo- (ridiculously outgoing to say the least), and Ellie, an 8-year old shy, gentle tortoise-colored cat.
We would request care for them if we exchange with you. They come with the house. They are outdoor/indoor cats with their own door.

Neighbourhood
Portland is a city of gardeners, and we are in SE Portland, a bohemian mecca filled with lovely old houses. Our neighborhood is called Ladd's Addition, the first planned neighborhood in America, with 5 small round gardens, around which the neighborhood was built. You can walk to grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and bars in both directions.
We are a one and a half hour drive to the Oregon Coast, and a one and half hour drive to Mount Hood. It is about a 2-hour drive to Mount Saint Helens. There is fabulous hiking everywhere, including trails within a 10-15 minute drive from our house. It is also a very bike-friendly city and our house is right on one of the regular bike routes.
Getting to my home
Take a plane to Portland, rated one of the best airports in the world. We are about a 20-minute ride from the airport, which is very easy to do via Uber. We also have a light rail train system that goes into the city and connects with buses that go very close to our house.

Getting Around
We are a 10-minute walk to two different grocery stores. We would consider allowing you to use our car, if that is something you're interested in. We also have bikes you can use. The Portland bus and light rail system is also very extensive, and there is a bus stop about a 4-minute walk from our house.
Happy to meet those new to Portland to help them get their bearings in the city.

Philippa
I'm Philippa- originally from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. I've lived all over the world and now call Portland, Oregon home. My husband Dave (from upstate New York) and I have two children, Michael and Iris, ages 17 and 19- and two cats, Simon and Ellie.
We love biking, hiking, gardening, pickleball, and we love the Pacific Northwest and especially Portland, a city of kind people who love good food, participating in strange things like naked bike rides, and dying their hair blue.
"We are looking to do a 2-week exchange some time this summer between mid-July through mid-August."
