Neighbourhood

We are 10 km from the town of Ruffec with weekly market restaurants and shops also a huge supermarket that’s sells just about everything great fish and fabulous wine .
Beautiful villages like Vertueil sur Charente with its impressive chateau right in the middle of the village
1 hour drive from Cognac hosting a jazz festival early July .
you are only an hour away in any direction to some great tourist attractions that France has to over .
A 15 min drive to Ruffec train station ( free parking nearby ) which takes you to Angouleme ( or a 45 min drive ) it is a beautiful city with lots of bar’s restaurants, bowling a lake with its man made beach with lots of water activities including huge inflatable obstacle course., safe for swimming and safe for young children with a great restaurant on site
We would often take our grandchildren and spend the whole day there .
Angloulême town also has a train station where you can get the TVG to many places including Bordeaux in 30 mins so you can park at Ruffec jump on the train to Angoulême and catch the TVG to Bordeaux , it’s ever so fast and Bordeaux is fabulous with a great tram system it would be worth a stop over as theres so much to see and do .
Poitier train station (also an hour the other direction ) you can take the TVG and be in the centre of Paris in 1 hour 40 mins
An hour from us is Niort which is also beautiful, they have a big outdoor Jazz festival 25 - 27th June with some fabulous artist a very young vibe there too .
We have the river 20 mins away where you can go kayaking down to one of the most beautiful villages in France Verteuil-sur-Charente with its breathtaking Chateau.
You then can stop and have lunch and then they come and pick you up and drive you back to your car, that’s a lovely day out and great fun for all the family.
Driving round this area is a Joy as the traffic is never too bad we quite often drive to the stunning west coast for the day which is a 1 1/2 hrs away but really is a pretty relaxing journey.
La Rochelle is on the west coast is definitely worth a visit, from there you can go over the toll bridge or get a ferry to the stunning Ile de Ré which we thoroughly recommend . Lots of great beaches we can recommend some dog Friendly
Saintes another great large town on the river 1 hr 10 mins away

We had a lovely and relaxing time at Jeanette's wonderful home! She is a very welcoming and considerate host, communicating clear and detailed instructions about all facets of the house, as well as local information for things to do and places to see. Jeanette very kindly left some Easter treats for our children as well as some wine for myself.
The home is clean, tidy and spacious, with a beautiful garden, swimming pool and tennis court, which were a lovely bonus to have. We would definitely love to stay again.

We had the pleasure of hosting Remona, James & boys at our home and on our return we wouldn’t have known they were there!!!
They left our house as they found it .
Communication was fluid before and during the exchange.
We wouldn’t hesitate in having them again, they are a lovely family
