We are a British American family, living in the U.K. We bought our house about a year ago and have lived in this stellar location for over 15 years. The Isle of Wight is a really special place and once you’ve been here, you’ll want to come back again and again.

People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
The house. We have a big front yard which is great for croquet and badminton.
In the neighbourhood. Rural scenes.
Tennyson Monument on the Tennyson Down. This aspect is looking out toward ‘the Needles’ a famous rock formation at the western tip of the Island.
Totland Bay pier. There is a good fish and chips spot just 4 minutes walk from here. Eat it on the beach of course!
Alum Bay. Nice walk up to the Needles Battery and former rocket launching pad, overlooking ‘the Solent’ (water between the Island and mainland). There were various battles fought in these waters and we can highly recommend a visit to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (which might sound dull, but is incredible!).
Epic sunrises from our dining room table.
Yarmouth river. Sunrise. Very good for bird watching.
Mackerel. Just throw them straight on the BBQ!
Osbourne House is Queen Victoria’s holiday home and estate. Well worth a visit. Great cafe there too and access to the beach. Spend the whole day there but before you go watch “Victoria and Abdul” and “Young Victoria” (films) and “Victoria” (Netflix series).
The Needles. Iconic.
Totland Bay. Idyllic childhood. Alex likes to go spear fishing/snorkelling from here. Good spot.
Yarmouth Harbour and town. Closest port to our house.
Coastal path. Looking toward Freshwater Bay and the Needles.
St. Catherine’s lighthouse. Niton, Isle of Wight. South tip. About 20 minutes from our house. Beautiful walk plus pub nearby!
This is on the mainland - Hurst Castle. There is a battery and museum to see there.
These are semi wild horses in the New Forest across the way on the mainland. It’s a fantastic place for a bike ride. If you come by train or car into Lymington to catch the Yarmouth ferry, you will come through this beautiful area.
“She thinks of nothing but the Isle of Wight, and she calls it ‘the Island’ as if there were no other island in the world.” - Jane Austen (Mansfield Park)
Kids room. Bunk bed up high and cot sized bed down low. Matisse inspired mural.
This day bed pulls out to a double bed. Piano is lovely, weighted keys.
Toys and board games in cupboard. Fireplace is not usable (sorry).
