General Overview
A lot of thought and care went into the design and build of our home to take advantage of the fantastic views we have. It’s a mix of modern and mid-century design pieces we have collected from around the world and some wonderful art that reflect our adventures. High ceilings, 800 year-old solid wood bench tops, and other unique pieces make our house our home.
Although this is our primary home, we are very flexible with availability, so do not put dates in our calendar. Please feel free to ask, and we will do our best to accommodate any requests.
There is also the possibility of accommodating an extra adult or two in the sleep out section of our shed with its own kitchenette and bathroom but would be an air mattress on the floor.
The Space
There is a large open living/dining/kitchen area. The house has 1 super king bed (180x203cm) ensuite room with its own external entry. The second bedroom has a queen (153x203cm) Murphy bed and its own external entry. There is the option of a single camp bed to allow sleeping for up to 5 in total. There is a large main bathroom with a big bath and walk-in shower and a separate funky toilet (‘Tigers & Toucs’- for Brooklyn 99 fans).
We are on a lifestyle block with a small olive grove and a hillside covered in wild thyme with amazing views of the surrounding ranges.
The landscaping around the house is still a work in progress but the bulk of the work is done. We are attempting to grow a lawn, and the birds are attempting to eat it! There will be a weber barbecue available in the outdoor entertainment area.
We are open to all types of exchanges including hospitality stays.
Note: The second bedroom has some finishing work (built in cabinets and bookshelves planned) to be done but everything is functional.
Guest Access
Single story. There is a step up into the home, so not fully wheelchair accessible.
Notes
We have installed a grey water system that waters the garden areas around the home so we would request guests to only use products provided.
There is the option of access to a vehicle, canoe, bikes (if we are not using them) and some garden game sets-croquet (if we win the battle for a lawn), pétanque, corn hole and even an axe throwing board.

Early retiree couple who enjoy meeting new people and spending time exploring the world. We have just finished building our new home in Central Otago, New Zealand, which frees up our 6 berth camper for exchanges too and we are excited to explore the possibilities that PLU offers.
Rhys wears many community hats. He is on the Board of Rotary District 9999 and is an active member of the Alexandra Rotary club. We both volunteer in the community as a Big Buddy, and at the local Cinema and at various community events.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
Wild thyme, eucalyptus and an olive grove lead you up the long winding drive to our little house on the hill.
Wonderful views greet you at the top.
A small berm planted out with natives helps feed our hive and attracts local birdlife. Keep and eye out for the quails and Tui.
Large Frame tv- binge all your Netflix, Prime and Apple TV faves
Comfy lounge with wood burner, Gidja art and lots of greenery. Expansive doors completely open up to the view.
We love our kitchen with 800 year old black matai benchtops (brought over from west coast as giant slabs) and an old copper rangehood pulled from a stone cottage in Otago.
Dining room with mid-century furniture, lighting and restored (they were in a terrible state) bentwood chairs.
Salvaged walk-in pantry door with bespoke insert. Note: guests will be asked to not enter pantry . Pantry drawers in kitchen.

We just completed the paneling which cleverly hides the hall closet and laundry
Our compact but mighty laundry is hiding behind cupboard doors in the entrance hall.
Our bling toilet. A nod to one our favorite shows and something a little unexpected.
The main bathroom with big deep tub, LED mirror, heated flooring and walk in shower
Main bathroom walk in shower with handheld and rain shower head. Lots of plants to give it a tropical spa vibe.

Main bedroom with super king bed and ensuite. Walk-in robe will be locked, hooks on door and drawers will be in room for guests.
The spa-like ensuite has a walk-in shower and underfloor heating. The LED mirror has a demister option. More plants help keep the air clean.
Walk-in shower with rain shower or handheld wall option- split the difference and do both!!
Hard landscaping completed. Large outdoor deck areas are ready for relaxing and taking in the views. Some more soft landscaping to come.
Big night skies and all lit up. Outdoor fire to enjoy outdoors year round.
Try your hand at axe throwing. We made our own board after giving it a go when we lived in Canada.
Cornhole anyone? We made our own set and decorated them with NZ beer labels for a unique design.
A long-distance view of our home from our neighbours horse paddock.
