General Overview
We're at home in an apartment in a building from the beginning of the 20th century. It has beautiful parquet floor and high ceilings with ornamental plasterwork.
It's located in a green and quiet residential neighbourhood in walking distance from many interesting spots. It's also well connected to the rest of the city by public transport. Zurich is famous for its lake, nightlife, starred restaurants, shopping, museums, the zoo, the university and its lively cultural scene. The city is also famous for its high cost of living, but there are also a lot of things to do for free (museums, botanical gardens, swimming in the lake or the river, many places of interest).
Zurich is also a great base for daily trips of any kind (trekking or skiing in the mountains, paragliding, visiting other swiss cities (Bern, Lucerne and Basel all within 1h of train) and lots of other outdoor activities).
The Space
The apartment is on the 1st floor, accessible only by stairs. Entering the apartment you'll find a long corridor connecting the different rooms and the balcony. The kitchen has a table suitable for 3 people and a window looking onto the balcony (practical to pass food when eating outside). On the covered balcony there is a table suitable for 4 people.
The other rooms accessible from the corridor are:
- a guest room with a single bed and a desk
- a sleeping room with a double bed (two single mattresses)
- a living room with a table for 6, a sofa, an armchair and a bookshelf (please help yourself)
- a room with a sofa bed for two, a desk with a computer, a digital piano and a home cinema with a projector
- a small bathroom with a toilet, a small sink and a shower
- another small bathroom with a toilet, a sink and a bathtub (useable also for showering)
In the basement you'll find a small storage room, two bicyles, and the common laundry room with a washing machine and wires to hang the clothes. The laundry room is reserved for you two days a week.
In the attic (above the second floor) there's a storage room, more wires to hang the clothes and the access to the common rooftop terrace.
The rooftop terrace has a big table, chairs and a removable sunshade can be installed.
Guest Access
Access is from the street through a small front garden. The apartment is on the 1st floor, accessible only through a wooden staircase.
Notes
There are only two other apartments in the building, occupied by easygoing and quiet neighbours.
Nina has a few plants, which would like to be watered during your stay.

Nina and Alessandro
We are Nina and Alessandro, a Swiss-Italian couple living in Zurich, Switzerland.
Nina is a true local: Born and raised in Zurich. Alessandro is from Rome, Italy, and has been living in Switzerland for ten years.
We got to know each other through the "Hospitality Club" - which sadly no longer exists - where people could offer and receive hospitality for free.
We have already swapped apartments with friends in past vacations (although not on a platform like PLU). We take great care of borrowed objects and of apartments we are allowed to spend time in.
We don't have a car, as in Zurich it's not needed, there's such a lot of public transport options.
Nina works as a speech therapist in a school. In her free time she enjoys meeting friends, reading newspapers and books, swimming in the lake, picking flowers, wild berries and herbs. She speaks Swiss german, German, is quite fluent in English and Italian and speaks a bit of French, too.
Alessandro works as an electronics engineer. In his free time, he does paragliding (he also has a tandem license: if you wanna fly as a passenger, you are very welcome!) and enjoys cooking, the outdoors, traveling and discovering new things in general. He speaks Italian, English and German and has a good level in Spanish, too.
Nina is taking a sabbatical from August 2025 to July 2026 and Alessandro is taking 2-3 months of vacation during the same period (the exact dates are not yet decided, but he's bound to work at least until October 2025). When it comes to destinations, we're particularly interested in New Zealand, Australia, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
Still the single bed bedroom: isn't the ceiling plasterwork nice? :)
View from one of the windows in the guest room (the church has no bell tower, so you won't be disturbed by bells).
Bedroom with a double bed. Doors to guest room (left), to living room (right) and to the corridor (where the photographer is standing).
Living/dining room. The table can comfortably accommodate six.
Books mostly in german and italian and a nice collection of board and card games
Window in the dining/living room (looking south).
Corridor, view towards balcony
"Cinema room" with projector/screen (connected to an Apple-TV and a Playstation 5), sofa bed for two people, working place with computer and digital piano.
View from the balcony. Rainbow not guaranteed.
View from the balcony. No noise from the bell tower since the church is not actively used.
The kitchen. We both like to cook, so you are going to find pretty much any tool you need here.
View from the kitchen window
Small bathroom with shower
The "main" bathroom: small but practical.
Rooftop terrace with table and chairs, shared with neighbours
Another view of the rooftop terrace: it is reachable through the attic. More chairs and a sunshade are available.
We adore the rooftop terrace. During NYE and 1st of August you can admire the city's great fireworks from there.
Main entrance. The apartment is on the 1st floor. Our balcony is the left one, with the curtain.
The main entrance. The lit windows are our apartment's. You can see Nina in the kitchen from the right window.
Church "Fraumünster" in the city centre. Inside you can admire the stainglass windows from Chagall and Giacometti.
Church "Grossmünster" in the city centre, one can climb up one of the bell towers
Swimming in the river Limmat, normally from June to September (depending on your restistance to cold temperatures...)
Swimming in the lake of Zurich. There are many different parks along the lake where you can always access the water for free, but also many lidos with lockers, showers etc. Normally, the water temperature is fine for swimming from June to September. But you can see people swimming all year round (including snowy days, brrrr)!
We can share lots of "insider tips". This one, for example, is the freely accessible entrance hall of a building in the city center.
Many lovely parks where you can for a walk, here Villa Patumbah not far from our place
Famous Tonhalle, a concert hall hosting world class musicians all year round.
There are several Christmas markets in Zurich, starting usually around November 20th and ending December 23rd. This is the one inside the main train station.
Enjoy ice skating at "Dolder", 6000 square meters of frozen surface. Reachable with a cable car just around the corner from out apartment.
If you like street art, here in Zurich they go big.
The lakeshore is full of parks, lidos and works of art, here "Heureka" by Jean Tinguely
Small theatre on a float, stops by in Zurich for some weeks during winter. See the alps in the background? On clear days it seems you can touch them.
In winter some lidos are open, and you can freely walk through them. This is the "Strandbad Tiefenbrunnen".
Walk in the forest not far from our place, lovely in every time of the year. As you can see, sometimes you can find surprising things (this is the "Elefantenbach", the elefant stream).
A view of the old city from above. Sometimes guided tours, like the one during which we took this photo, offer you a whole new perspective of the city.
The "WOW" museum in Zurich, is all about optical illusions.
The ZOO is also one of the main attractions: you could spend a whole day there.
From November to March there might be some Snow in Zurich, usually it lasts for a few days, but not for longer. Here you can see Alessandro asking for directions.
The Swiss Alps seen from a lido in Zurich
The botanical gardens in the wintertime. Fifteen minutes walk from our door.
Another view or the Lake Zurich. It offers lots of activities like swimming, sailing, kayak, SUP and anything else you can imagine doing on water.
Winter view of the lake. See the float? In summer they are used by swimmers for sunbathing or a quick stop. In winter they become the birds' meeting point.
Yes, in Zurich you can do birdwatching too. Here you can see also some cormorans.
