Getting Around
Half a mile to local shops and cafes. 1 mile to nearest town centre. Local buses run from half a mile away. We do live on a hill, hence the great views. So if you are less mobile, or have young children, it might be best to have access to a car. We are happy to discuss exchanging cars.
We had the most lovely time staying at Oliver’s home which is very spacious and exceptionally tidy, with absolutely everything you need for a great stay. We particularly loved the views of the hills from the lounge at the back of the house when relaxing with our books in the late afternoon.. The house is in a lovely part of Milngavie, very quiet with some nice walks possible directly from the house.
Being so close to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs we spent every day in the national park walking and enjoying the amazing autumnal colours. Just fabulous! Oliver gave us some great recommendations for places to stop for coffee or have lunch, which were spot on.
Glasgow is very close by but the weather was ideal for walking so we didn’t go into the City, which seemed very easy to do by public transport.
We had such an enjoyable and relaxing time and would highly recommend Oliver’s home as an ideal and conveniently place to explore some of Scotland’s great places.
We spent a week at Oliver's and it was wonderful!
The house is lovely with a gorgeous garden and a stunning sight on the hills. It is clean and tidy and suitable for young children. Not to mention that Scotland is such a marvellous country.
We mostly travelled by train, the walk to the station doesn't feel as long as it looks as you can cross a nice park (and supermarkets if needed) and there are frequent trains. Besides the bus stop is closer and buses are rather regular as well.
Oliver gave us great ideas for walks and outings around.
Oliver and his young family were ideal guests in our home. It was the first time we had welcomed young children into our home as part of an exchange. They treated our home with the utmost respect and left it spotless and tidy. They kindly did all the washing of the bed linen before they left, which made our return home so much easier, after an extended holiday.
During our swap Oliver was great at keeping in touch and quick to respond to any queries. We would welcome them back any time.
Oliver and his family are great hosts. We've been warmly welcome, he was available for any questions we had and gave us loads of tips to visit the region with kids. We had a wonderful time thanks to them.
They were also respectful of our apartment and let it clean and tidy.
Pip's home is really lovely - I'd say even nicer in reality than in the pictures. Everything is finished to a really high standard and the decoration is really tasteful. The whole place was spotlessly clean.
The kitchen and extension is a really nice space with a great view onto their garden and the countryside beyond.
The house is in a lovely village with an excellent pub - we wish we'd gone there earlier in our stay so we could have returned. There is also a play park in the village and a farm which has a vending machine so you can get fresh milk or a range of milkshakes.
We enjoyed exploring the local area - lots for kids to do with the beach close by and a really good adventure farm called Hall Hill Farm. Durham was lovely to visit as well.
We had our car and that helped us go to lots of different places, but there also looked like there was a bus in the village every 30 mins.
Pip was really easy to communicate with before and during the exchange. She provided loads of really helpful information about her home and the local area.
Pip and her husband left our home completely spotless - they were perfect guests!
Noëlie's apartment was excellent - probably even better in real life than on the photos!
It was spotlessly clean, really spacious, nice and cool despite the heatwave outside, and had lovely balconies to sit out on etc.
If you have children, Noëlie's apartment has lots of toys, but they are packed extremely neatly so it's really tidy and you wouldn't notice them if you travel without children.
Noëlie's apartment is in a perfect location. About 100 yards from a extremely good bakery, a nice 5 mins walk into the centre of Strasbourg, and about 500 yards from a tram stop which can take you to that science museum, a lake for swimming/sunbathing, and the train station.
Strasbourg itself is a perfect place for holidaying if you like city breaks or if you have children. It's got very little traffic and most of it seems pedestrianised. There's loads to do in the city (a few things we didn't have time to get to), and lots of day trips we considered but didn't do due to our children being quite young (eg Cigoland, Europa-Park).
Noëlie was really straightforward to communicate with. She was really keen to keep our house as we like it and we felt we could fully trust her and her family with our house.
When we returned home, we could see no evidence of them being in the house - they had tidied and cleaned so carefully. They even left a little thank you gift!
