"With its meandering streets and blush-sandstone castle wrapped in a loop of the Severn, Shropshire's compact county town is ideal for wandering and window shopping. The covered market was voted the country's best in
2024. But it's hard to beat Wyle Cop, a curving, climbing high street lined with 39 listed buildings, ranging from medieval half-timbered to Victorian ornate."

This was our first exchange and we could not have selected better!
Beth reached out to us, and immediately we sensed her enthusiasm and authenticity. We communicated regularly in weeks leading to the exchange and established a connection and trust. It was nice to get to know a bit about each other & our lives. This made for an effortless first exchange. Also, Beth provided a realy informative pdf which included everthing we needed to know.
We were excited to get to Beth's home, and it did not disappoint. It is brimming with character & charm and offers many original features: restored floor boards, terracotta tiles, original doors - all gorgeous reflections of the history of the house & village. Beth has curated an eclectic, and vintage style with a real sense of fun and funk.
The log stove will be an added boost of cosiness in the chillier months. We felt perfectly at home and relaxed during our stay. Beth had thought of everything, with beautiful welcome touches throughout, we could not have expected more. Honestly.
The bedrooms were bright and airly with a pretty views of the village or garden. Our bed was super comfy and the bed linen was fresh & crisp. We really enjoyed the elegant suite bathroom and fluffy towels.
We were fortunate to have decent weather, so the outside space was an added bonus. The rear garden seems to have the sun most of the day. The olive, lavender & bamboo plants, along with beautiful garden furniture and lighting, made for a holiday vibe. We were often accompanied by Binx and Blue who joined us in a spot of late afternoon basking in the sun.
Step outside of the house into the picturesque village with charming properties all around - British chocolate-box-perfect, especially with all the flowers in bloom. It's very desirable area and people were very friendly. The village was pleasant to stroll around and it boasts a little bit of everything: a common area / park, lovely church & grounds, there are some local shops and a 15 min walk (or 5 min drive) away there is a retail park with lots of well-known stores and suoermarkets. So, your every convenience was literally on the doorstep. Nearby, is the park & ride car park which is so convenient to access Shrewsbury within about 15 minutes.
We really loved Shrewsbury. Unlike so many places, it has retained a sense of local & historical identity, combined with the commercial and highstreet brands. During a burst of rain we stumbled across the indoor Market Hall - what a delight! Once again, the history of the place is very interesting, and the beauty of the historic buildings and the meandering river made our first experience of this part of the UK special & memorable.
We are already thinking about when we can visit again - and that is the ultimate recommendation. If you exchange with Beth, you will stay in a charming, clean, stylish house in a picturesque village, conveniently situated in an accessible part of the UK, offering city or countryside - even another country just a hop over the border!
Thank you Beth & family for making our first exchange such a positive experience, we will move forward with confidence, in the hope we get equally splendid stays.
We really relaxed and felt comfortable in your beautiful home and village - such a pleasure.
Oh, and our gorgeous feline friends, they made us so welcome! xx
Beth and her family were wonderful guests,
They were great at communicating from start to finish, thoughtful and so respectful of the properties leaving them clean and tidy.
It was a pleasure to host them and highly recommend them to anyone.
When we returned home, it was like we had never left. Perfect guests, could not have wished for more! Thank you.
Our neighbours enjoyed having Beth and family around, and we are assuming the farm animals give their seal of approval too.
The adventure of a lifetime come true thank you to Patrick accepting a Non- Sim exchange with us!
Patrick has been incredible at communicating with me over months of planning. He answered all of my questions- and there were many -to help me plan our trip . His replies were detailed and reassuring. As a lone parent traveling with my two children on our first overseas exchange for Patrick to have been so friendly and patient ment a lot.
We stayed at both of Patrick’s homes whist in Costa Rica this has been a unique opportunity and has enabled us to experience Costa Rica quite differently at each property.
Patrick’s main house near La fortuna is situated in truly beautiful setting. The gardens are stunning, landscaped and busting with plants, flowers and fruit trees. There is a wonderful swimming pool to enjoy, and the best outdoor cooking experience that I loved that added to a sense of traditional Costa Rican living and adventure. The house is gated, and privately situated in a rural setting and only a 10 minute walk to a
traditional town where you will find a supermarket, places to eat and have a drink. Completely non touristy. The house is convenient to incredible attractions such as rainforest hikes, volcano, hot springs, waterfalls, and mind blowing wildlife experiences. We had no car, and although quicker and more convenient getting around with one we made it work using a local, trustworthy and friendly driver who we paid.
There is also a bus route to La fortuna from the local town.
Patrick.’s main house was well equipped, clean and comfortable. It had wonderfully cool air conditioned bedrooms. We had plenty of room and loved staying in a home built in a very much traditional Costa Rican style.
Patrick welcomed us on arrival and made sure we were settled before leaving. He has some friendly canine buddies who visited us daily , his neighbours dogs . They are lovely and come to say hello on the porch.
We saw the only scarlet macaws whilst at Patrick’s house .. just beautiful.
Patrick’s second home in Playa del Coco is situated in a secure, guarded and gated complex. The area boast pretty much everything. Adventure and nature experiences, countless beaches and places to eat on your doorstep. There is a ATM , pharmacy, supermarket a 5 minute walk away and the beach and restaurants are right on your doorstep. Playa- del - coco beach was the stage to the best sunset we had ever seen. Patrick’s home was clean , comfortable, spacious and kitted out with everything we could need and more. The complex has a friendly community of permanent residents and second homes. There are beautiful swimming pools to choose from and a great little pool bar that serves delicious food. Patrick kindly gave us a life to his home when we arrived in Play del o and showed us around. This made us feel welcomed and was settling seeing a familiar face again.
I can honestly say if you are lucky enough to exchange with Patrick.. do it .. it’s the opportunity of a lifetime..
Thank you Patrick. And we look forward to welcoming you to our home next summer.
Thank You and so happy that you all enjoyed your time in Costa Rica, It really is interesting to experience the different energy and vibes from the area around lake and volcan Arenal to that of the coast.
Thanks for leaving both places so tidy and well kept and love the curry spices as well as the chocolates you left, very thoughtful. Have placed the Card upon one of the shelves of the entertainment area and again very thoughtful.
You are truly blessed to have such polite and lovely children, Ella and Edward are I believe are well on their way to becoming very intelligent, insightful, and thoughtful adults someday and that is truly commendable these days in particular.
I am looking forward to visiting your home next summer and exploring the region and maybe a few pubs....as my life's work has centered around Real Estate and Restaurants I love to enjoy the unique architecture of various area's around the world and the pub's and restaurants to experience the flavors of the various places I visit.
I will reach out as time nears and try to solidify the dates more precisely
All the best to you all,
Patrick,
Gill and Rich have the most a beautiful home, located in a wonderful charming rural setting.
Their home is located only a ten minute drive to the harbour town of Whitehaven, where we found all the local amenities that we needed during our stay.
The house is nestled in a small community setting, where we met some very welcoming neighbours . There is a delightful small holding nearby that my children loved to visit daily so that they could say ‘hello’ to the friendly horses and lambs!
From the moment we walked into the house we felt relaxed and were sure that we would have lovely stay.
The house is furnished and decorated beautifully. It is an eclectic mix of fresh modern furnishings and antique pieces . There is a real sense of attention to detail. Everything we needed during our stay was there for us , along with those little extras too that made us feel very welcome , spoilt and looked after.
The beds are super comfortable, and the house spotlessly clean. The bathroom my 15 year old daughter loved the most as she said it ‘felt tropical’!
Gill and Rich’s cats are adorable.
Friendly and easy to care for, they made our stay feel extra homely!
The local area boasts some fabulous places to visit and explore. Stunning countryside is right on the doorstep, along with the famous Scafell Pike and other Lake District wonders only a day trip away.
This has been our first ever home exchange and we have loved it!
I have really enjoyed chatting to Gill and Rich. They have been friendly, welcoming and warm in their communications. They provided us with clear home information and plenty of ideas of places to dine out and visit locally. They feel like friends that I’ve never met!
A perfect home in a perfect location. We have felt blessed to have been guests of Gill and Rich.Should you get the opportunity to exchange with them you definitely will not be disappointed.
Thank you Gill and Rich it’s been a pleasure.
Quite simply Gill and Rich are fantastic guests. Clean, tidy and respectful. Our home feels it has been well cared for, looked after and enjoyed.
We also have cats of our own, who didn’t look at all bothered about us returning home! They have been very well looked after too.
Thank you.
