General Overview
House is situated in a lovely friendly pretty village, it feels rural but is easy to get to lots of different places. Has train station and bus services. NOTE: as at June 2026 the train station bridge is currently under maintenance and so at the moment its not possible to catch the train from here to Oxford, it is possible to come back from Oxford though! to get to Oxford using public transport you'd have to use the bus. With a car you can use a park n ride into Oxford.
It has 2 king beds and a superking. Has a low maintenance garden with bifolding doors leading to patio furniture for those lovely summer days.
The Space
There is an open plan kitchen and dining room. the lounge has bifolding doors to garden patio area. There is a cloakroom with toilet and hallway. Attached to the kitchen is a garage and laundry room area with washing machine.
Second floor there are 2 bedrooms with 1 king size and 1 super king size bed and a family bathroom. There is another room on this floor but not available to guests.
3rd floor bedroom has a king size bed and an ensuite shower room and there is a small office workspace with big screen.
Guest Access
3 floors with stairs
Notes
Small driveway to park one car (if my car isn't left there) but also possible to park on the road - no parking restrictions.
We are often not back for long periods of time so sometimes we need to charge a fee of £40 cash on the side for the cleaner to come in and make sure house is checked and restocked with toilet roll etc and laundry is done and beds made for the next guests. We would still expect the house to be left clean & tidy. This fee can be waived in circumstances when I am around.

Neighbourhood
There is a village pub - the Gardiners Arms which currently opens Tues, Wed, Thurs, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It has food trucks in the car park generally on Thurs & Fri and sometimes Saturday. This can be taken away or eaten in the pub. It serves its own food in the pub itself on a Sunday. (generally breakfast and lunch) There is a village hall and shop which also runs a pop-up pub on a Friday evening in the summer which is great place for the kids as there is a large playing field attached.
At the village hall there is also a very nice playground area for kids with good equipment.
2 churches - small methodist and a large Church of England
The village is surrounded by fields and country lanes for good walking and yet you can get a bus or train to explore other places.
Rousham House & Gardens 2.9 miles
Blenheim Palace, Woodstock 4.3 miles
Bicester Village 11 miles
Oxford City Centre 13 miles. 10 mins on train, longer driving
Jeremy Clarksons Farm 15 miles 30 mins in car
Jeremy Clarksons pub (farmers dog) 18 miles 30 mins in car
Harry Potter Studios 61 miles 1.20 hrs in car
Birmingham 73 miles 1.30 hrs on train
London (paddington) 58 miles. 1.30 hrs on train
There's a lovely walk through the fields down to the canal lock where you can see canal boats going through the lock and many other countryside walks.
We are on the edge of the Cotswolds and so there are many lovely Cotswold villages to explore like Chipping Norton, Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the water, Broadway etc. This is most easily done by car.
Getting to my home
Tackley has a train station so you can get from London or Birmingham. It is a village stop so you do need to check timetables for frequency. From Heathrow /Gatwick you could get an airline bus to the Park n ride in Headington and then an uber to the village. There is is also another train station called Oxford Parkway in nearby village Kidlington which is on a different train line, its a park n ride as well.
Nearest airport
London Heathrow 51 miles
Can get airline bus to Oxford then a bus, train or uber to the village depending on the timetables
Driving from there would be 80 mins ish
Getting Around
There's an hourly bus from the village in the direction of Oxford or the other way to Banbury. There is also a train station in the village so you can go both ways on that as well. As its a village you do need to check the timetables for frequency of travel depending on when you want to travel. If you want to explore more remote parts of the cotswolds and all the little villages a car would be easier for some destinations.
We loved our time in the Cotswolds at Caroline & John's place. Caroline was wonderfully accommodating, arranging for us to stay at short notice, straight after another exchange. Her house manual gave many tips of things to see & do in the area - we needed more time to do them all. Great location, friendly village (especially the pub), beautiful & comfortable home in such a pretty part of the world. We feel so lucky and privileged to have been able to stay there. Would absolutely recommend. Hope to be able to host them in Sydney in future.
Caroline’s home is lovely, with an excellent train station near by. The house is comfortable and beautifully decorated. Communication with Caroline was exceptional! Thank you for letting us stay, Caroline!
Caroline is the perfect host, with a beautiful home in a lovely area! We'd especially recommend staying with her if interested in exploring Oxford or surrounding villages, as she's perfectly located for both.
We left our planning for attending a wedding in rural Oxfordshire until quite last-minute, even by our standards! Caroline not only reached out with the perfect proposal but was also flexible enough to accommodate us on especially short notice. (Translation: she swooped in and saved us!)
Caroline's communication was excellent before and throughout our stay, and she is easygoing and fun to chat with. She is an absolutely lovely person and went the extra mile to be helpful, not only giving us interesting information about the area but also offering us rides whenever she was available!
Her home is spacious, well-decorated, and impeccably clean. We felt so lucky to have such a peaceful place to rest at the end of some long and eventful days.
We've been inspired to return to the area and explore it properly! It would be a pleasure to stay with Caroline again and hear about her exciting travel adventures ❤️
We had such a wonderful time staying at Caroline's! The house is in a cute little village just 15-20 minutes from Oxford with the train station right around the corner. The home was lovely and cozy with a beautiful backyard area that we enjoyed for dinner many nights. If you're looking to explore the Cotswolds this home is a great base. Caroline was easy to communicate with and very accommodating. Thanks so much for opening your home to us, we enjoyed our time there very much!
We are delighted that we got to be Caroline’s first home exchangers! Thanks very much to her for accepting our request. Her home is very lovely, spacious and filled with light (and spotlessly clean), has all the amenities you could wish for, and has a beautiful garden to look out on or enjoy as a suntrap in good weather. The location was perfect for us visiting friends and family in and around Oxford and Kidlington, but it would also be a peaceful stay for a tourist visit to Oxford and the Cotswolds. It’s really near Blenheim Palace and Rousham House as well as other desirable locations (even near Bicester Village if you want to go there!). Caroline is a great communicator and was very kind. We would highly recommend her as an exchange partner :-)

Feedback for Paddye·Non-Reciprocal exchange·3 nights
It was a pleasure to be able to host Paddye's last minute request for my house, we had good communication and the house was left nice and clean and tidy for when I arrived back from my adventures (and the bedding that was washed was folded impeccably - I need to learn how to fold fitted sheets so neatly like that!)
Feedback for Leah·Non-Reciprocal exchange·2 nights
It was a pleasure to host Leah and family in our home. We had good communication beforehand and the house was left nice ans clean and tidy for the next guests coming in.
It was a pleasure to host Karen and Vitor during their visit to my area for a wedding, our communication was good and they were a very friendly and respectful couple.
Feedback for Colette·Non-Reciprocal exchange·13 nights
It was a pleasure to host Colette and family, unfortunately we didn't manage to meet in person but communication was good and my house was left in a perfect state. I hope they enjoyed exploring the cotswolds and surrounding area.
Michael and Helen were perfect first exchange guests. They left our house spotless and we had great communication. Just a shame I didn't actually meet them in person!
Thanks for trusting us with your lovely home Caroline, may you have many wonderful exchanges in the future!
