Neighbourhood
There is a village pub - the Gardiners Arms which currently opens Thurs, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There is village hall and shop which also runs a pop-up pub on a Friday evening in the summer which is great place for the kids in the summer as there is a large playing field attached.
At the village hall there is also a very nice playground area for kids with equipment.
2 churches - small methodist and a large Church of England
The village is surrounded by fields and country lanes for good walking and yet you can get a bus or train to explore other places.
Rousham House & Gardens 2.9 miles
Blenheim Palace 4.3 miles
Bicester Village 11 miles
Oxford City Centre 13 miles. 10 mins on train, longer driving
Jeremy Clarksons Farm 20 miles
Birmingham 73 miles 1.30 hrs on train
London (paddington) 58 miles. 1.30 hrs on train
There's a lovely walk through the fields down to the canal lock where you can see canal boats going through the lock and many other countryside walks.
Getting to my home
Tackley has a train station so you can get from London or Birmingham. It is a village stop so you do need to check timetables for frequency. From Heathrow /Gatwick you could get an airline bus to the Park n ride in Headington and then an uber to the village. There is is also another train station called Oxford Parkway in nearby village Kidlington which is on a different train line, its a park n ride as well.
Nearest airport
London Heathrow 51 miles
Can get airline bus to Oxford then a bus, train or uber to the village depending on the timetables
Driving from there would be 80 mins ish
Getting Around
There's a bus in the direction of Oxford or the other way to Banbury. There is also a train station in the village so you can go both ways on that as well. As its a village you do need to check the timetables for frequency of travel depending on when you want to travel. If you want to explore more remote parts of the cotswolds and all the little villages a car would be easier for some destinations.
We had such a wonderful time staying at Caroline's! The house is in a cute little village just 15-20 minutes from Oxford with the train station right around the corner. The home was lovely and cozy with a beautiful backyard area that we enjoyed for dinner many nights. If you're looking to explore the Cotswolds this home is a great base. Caroline was easy to communicate with and very accommodating. Thanks so much for opening your home to us, we enjoyed our time there very much!
We are delighted that we got to be Caroline’s first home exchangers! Thanks very much to her for accepting our request. Her home is very lovely, spacious and filled with light (and spotlessly clean), has all the amenities you could wish for, and has a beautiful garden to look out on or enjoy as a suntrap in good weather. The location was perfect for us visiting friends and family in and around Oxford and Kidlington, but it would also be a peaceful stay for a tourist visit to Oxford and the Cotswolds. It’s really near Blenheim Palace and Rousham House as well as other desirable locations (even near Bicester Village if you want to go there!). Caroline is a great communicator and was very kind. We would highly recommend her as an exchange partner :-)

It was a pleasure to host Colette and family, unfortunately we didn't manage to meet in person but communication was good and my house was left in a perfect state. I hope they enjoyed exploring the cotswolds and surrounding area.
Michael and Helen were perfect first exchange guests. They left our house spotless and we had great communication. Just a shame I didn't actually meet them in person!
Thanks for trusting us with your lovely home Caroline, may you have many wonderful exchanges in the future!
