General overview
In the 1960s and '70s local builder Robert Rummer constructed over seven-hundred of these beautiful houses in and around the Portland area. Referred to by locals as "Rummers" these homes are reminiscent of Joseph Eichler's Mid-Century Modern architectural design featuring giant floor-to-ceiling windows, post and beam construction, soaring ceilings and enclosed atriums.
The space
The front doors of the house lead into a beautiful atrium with an indoor garden and small koi pond with a fountain. The soothing sound of the fountain can be heard throughout the main areas of the house.
The living room is filled with comfortable seating, warm lighting, and features a wood-burning fireplace. Soaring floor-to-ceiling windows open the room to the atrium on one side and a mature stand of Doug fir on the other. Outside an ipe wood deck opens to Taliesen Park and the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District's neighborhood trail system. During warm weather the deck can be enjoyed out in the open air under the trees. A covered area with comfortable couches, blankets and a propane fire pit table also make it the perfect place to snuggle up on a chilly night.
The master bedroom has a "split" king Birch mattress bed and each side is fully adjustable so you can raise and lower the head and foot of the mattress (try the "Zero G" setting!) and features a wonderfully relaxing massage feature. The bed faces an electric fireplace, a TV with Netflix access, and sliding glass doors opening to a private outdoor patio.
The master bath features a step-down Roman-tiled shower with five wall-mounted massaging shower-heads looking out onto a peaceful enclosure of black bamboo.
The family room has comfortable seating and a spot to kick up your feet while watching the tv or enjoying the breeze from two sliding doors, in a wall of floor to ceiling windows. Outside the family room sits a four person hot tub and just inside is a four-person wet/dry sauna. The main bathroom also features a jetted tub.
The "media room" (the “second bedroom”) has a Pavia Sleeper sofa suitable for one and features HDTV, surround sound, Blu-ray player and access to on-demand movies via Netflix. (Please note there is no cable.)
The kitchen is newly remodeled. We’re big cooks so it will have everything you need!
The small gym has a treadmill, rowing machine, free weights, weight bench, and misc. other fitness items.
The laundry room has new extra-large capacity front-load washer and dryer.
Guest access
The house is single story however there is one step leading down into the Roman-style shower.
Notes
When you leave we just ask that you strip the beds and pile the linens and your towels in laundry baskets. Please leave the kitchen tidy as well.
We do have a cat and some fish that will need to be fed. The dog will not be here. Depending on the length of your stay some indoor plants may also need watering. We will hire someone to keep the gardens outside watered.
While the master bedroom suite and its outdoor patio are completely private, there are no window coverings in the living and dining rooms. This reflects the open concept design common to this style of architecture, "bringing the outdoors in." As a result you may notice the occasional neighbor walking their dog through Taliesen Park which adjoins our property. We’ve been in this house for 15-years and never had any issues with crime or intruders. (But please do keep things locked up…it’s still the city, after all!)

Neighbourhood
We live in a quiet and safe residential neighborhood with a park on three sides. The side that does face our neighbor has no windows.
Getting to my home
If you don’t have a car the Portland light rail system (MAX) will take you from the airport to a nearby station then the house is a 10-minute Uber or Lyft ride from there. To Uber or Lyft from the airport is anywhere from $80 to $100.
If you are driving the airport is a 30 to 45-minute drive depending on traffic.

Getting around
The nearest grocery store is one mile from the house. You will need to rent a car or Uber/Lyft to get around. Downtown Portland is an easy 15-minute drive during non-peak times and 30 minutes during rush hour. (Or you can take a 10-minute Uber ride to the nearby light-rail station that takes you directly downtown.)
