This is everyday life in Pavlov — a village where UNESCO landscapes, world-class wines, water sports, rich folk traditions, and Central European history all meet in one place. Whether you're here to explore, to slow down, or to work remotely while your family makes the most of the garden and the outdoors, our home is set up for all of it. Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest are day-trip distance. The Adriatic and the Alps are a few more hours further. Pavlov in Czechia is not a destination most international travellers have heard of — but those who find it tend to come back.

Our home sits right beneath Pavlov Castle, in the heart of the Czech Republic's most celebrated wine region — South Moravia. We have stunning views over the Nové Mlýny Reservoir, and the morning sunrises here are genuinely breathtaking.

The area is surrounded by dozens of small and large family wineries, with the famous Pálava Hills as a backdrop — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the most scenic landscapes in Central Europe. Whether you're here for hiking, cycling along the reservoir, wine tastings, or simply slowing down, this corner of Moravia has a way of winning people over.
Vienna and Bratislava are about an hour away by car; Prague is two and a half hours. Mikulov — one of the most beautiful historic towns in the country — is just 10 minutes away.

The house is also well set up for remote work: ultra-fast fibre optic internet (666 Mbps) throughout, plus a dedicated home office with its own entrance to the garden — so you can work in peace while the rest of the family enjoys the house and garden.

We offer two stay options:
You can stay in our full family home during a simultaneous exchange. Alternatively, our self-contained apartment (normally available on Booking) is available for exchanges even while we are at home — meaning we can welcome you personally and show you around. The apartment has its own entrance, full kitchen, hot tub, and access to the garden with pool and children's play area.

The property spans four floors and offers generous space for families and groups.

Garden with children's play area: swings, slide, trampoline, and a small ornamental pond

The apartment is normally rented out as a holiday let, so it is set up to a full hospitality standard with fresh linen, towels, and all essentials provided.

Guest Access

Guests have access to all 4 floors of the property. This includes all bedrooms, bathrooms, the fully equipped kitchen, living areas, and the attic children's playroom with Nintendo Switch. The garden, swimming pool, and hot tub are shared between the house and apartment and available to all guests. Front door access via smart lock — we will share the code before your arrival. Full instructions for the smart home system provided.

Notes

We have a small, friendly chihuahua named Boy — he can stay with family during your exchange if preferred, or remain on the property if you're comfortable with small dogs.

Non-smoking inside the home. Smoking permitted on the terrace and in the garden.

The swimming pool is unfenced, but can be fully covered and secured using the retractable terrace. We'll walk you through this before you arrive.

Our smart home system controls heating, lighting, and entry — full instructions provided. It's easy to use.

If you choose our apartment while we're at home, we will leave you completely to your own space and privacy. We are happy to meet for a glass of wine and some local tips, but we won't intrude.

Our regular cleaner visits the property once a week and can be available to guests during their stay as well — just let us know and we'll arrange it.

Pavlov is a small wine village of around 600 people, built into a hillside beneath a medieval castle. Life here revolves around vineyards, wine cellars, and the reservoir — it is quiet, safe, and one of the most scenic corners of Central Europe.

Wine country at your doorstep
South Moravia produces some of the finest wines in Central Europe, and Pavlov sits right in the heart of it. The region is known for its distinctive white varietals — Welschriesling, Pálava (a uniquely Moravian grape named after these hills), Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, and increasingly strong reds from the sun-baked limestone slopes. What makes this area special is the wine culture itself: most cellars are small family operations, open for tastings without reservations, where the winemaker pours for you personally. You won't find this in Bordeaux or Tuscany.
Highlights within 10–15 minutes of the house:

Vinařství Sonberk — one of the most awarded Moravian wineries, stunning hilltop architecture with panoramic views, exceptional Pálava and Riesling
Vinařství Volařík — family estate with beautiful cellar tastings in a traditional underground setting
Vinařství Lahofer — architecturally iconic winery (winner of the Czech Grand Prix for architecture), worth visiting even just to see the building
In September and October, many cellars hold open weekends — you can walk from one to the next through the vineyards with a glass in hand

Mikulov (10 min by car)
One of the most beautiful historic towns in the Czech Republic — Renaissance castle on a rocky hill, a well-preserved Jewish quarter (one of the largest historic Jewish heritage sites in Central Europe), underground wine cellars beneath the old town, excellent restaurants, and a weekly farmers' market. Easy to spend a full day here. The castle has great views over the whole region.

Lednice and Valtice (20–25 min)
UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as the "Garden of Europe." Two grand chateaux connected by a 7km romantic landscape park full of follies, temples, and minarets — all built by the Liechtenstein family in the 18th and 19th centuries. Valtice has a famous wine salon where you can taste the 100 best Czech wines of the year. Lednice castle is fairy-tale beautiful and popular with families — horse-drawn carriages, boat trips on the park waterways, and a massive greenhouse full of tropical plants.

Pálava Hills and the reservoir
The hills directly above the village are a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — dramatic white limestone cliffs rising above vineyards and the Nové Mlýny Reservoir. The hike from Pavlov up to Děvín (the highest peak) takes about 45 minutes and rewards you with views across to Austria. The reservoir itself is popular for cycling, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and long walks along the shore.

Bratislava, Slovakia — 1.5 hr. Compact, walkable old town, great coffee culture
Budapest, Hungary — 2.5 hrs. Architecture, thermal baths, ruin bars
Brno — 50 min. Czech Republic's second city, lively student town, excellent food scene, interesting brutalist and functionalist architecture, famous ossuary beneath the city centre
Znojmo — 40 min. Ancient wine town with Roman-era tunnels beneath the old town, impressive castle, local wine festival in August

For families with children

Lednice castle and park (boat rides, horses, vast grounds to run around)
Dinopark Vyškov — one of the best dinosaur parks in Central Europe, about 40 min away
Aqualand Moravia — large waterpark, 10 min
Archeopark Pavlov — an open-air archaeological museum just steps from our home, bringing to life the world of Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers who lived in this area 25,000–30,000 years ago. The site features reconstructed mammoth-bone dwellings, exhibits on prehistoric life, and a replica of the famous Venus of Věstonice — one of the oldest known ceramic figurines in the world, discovered nearby in 1925. A fascinating visit for both adults and children
Cycling trails along the reservoir are completely flat and perfect for kids (except our village which is on the top of the hill :)
The village itself is safe and calm — children can explore freely

Best times to visit
Late April –June for green hills and cycling; September–October for grape harvest season (some wineries let you pick grapes); November/December for the Mikulov or famous Vienna Christmas market and atmospheric winter cellar tastings.

By car:

From Vienna (Austria): approx. 1 hour via A5/D2 motorway
From Bratislava (Slovakia): approx. 1 hour via D2
From Brno: approx. 50 minutes via D52 motorway
From Prague: approx. 2.5 hours via D1/D52

By public transport:
Train to Mikulov (connections from Brno, Vienna, and Bratislava), then local bus or taxi to Pavlov — approximately 10 minutes. We are happy to arrange a pick-up if needed.

Nearest airport

Brno–Tuřany Airport (BRQ): approx. 50 km, 45 minutes by car — good for regional European connections
Vienna International Airport (VIE): approx. 100 km, 1 hour by car — excellent intercontinental connections (recommended for long-haul flights)
Bratislava Airport (BTS): approx. 90 km, 1 hour by car

We recommend flying into Vienna for most international guests — it's the most connected hub and the drive through the Austrian countryside to Pavlov is beautiful.

Getting Around

A car is strongly recommended for exploring the region — most wineries, chateaux, and nature trails are spread across the countryside and not easily reached by public transport. Free parking is available at the property.

When we are away, we can offer the use of our 7-seat electric vehicle (Mercedes EQV) — perfect for families or groups wanting to explore the region, do day trips to Vienna or Bratislava, or simply avoid renting a car. Just ask us when arranging the exchange.

Electric vehicle charging: a Type 2 EV charger is available directly at the property for guests arriving with electric or hybrid cars.

Cycling is excellent and practical for shorter distances: the reservoir cycling path runs for kilometres and connects several villages. Bike rental is available right in Pavlov on our street, as well as in Mikulov (10 min).

Regional buses connect Pavlov to Mikulov and Brno, but schedules are limited.
