General overview
Our home is spacious and cozy with lots of sunlight in the morning in a quiet street.
The guest bedroom/bathroom (mostly used for home exchange - shown in photo), as well as a secondary sitting area (with a double sofa-bed) are on the top floor of a duplex unit on the second floor in a building without elevator. The unit floor plan allows for privacy and convenience even when we are at home during exchanges, which rarely happens and we always communicate very clearly about that beforehand (while away our bed and bath remain closed).
There's a terrace out the main living room on the front side of the building, plus you'll have a lovely view of the Moorish Castle (a world heritage site) and Pena Palace from the guest bedroom window on the back side.
The kitchen is on the ground floor and has basic appliances.
The space
The guest bedroom is very spacious, mostly used for home exchange and has a queen size bed, an empty closet and a dresser. Smart TV for streaming apps that you can sign in to your accounts.
Bathroom is right next door for guest's exclusive use.
Guest access
Duplex on the second and last floor of a small low rise apartment building without elevator, plus staircase to reach the guest area on top floor.
Notes
We offer a safe and friendly environment for those visiting Sintra and its amazing historic sites (or its incredible hiking trails on the mountain) and wish to return to a peaceful neighborhood at the end of a busy sightseeing day.

Neighbourhood
The neighborhood is mainly residential with restaurants, supermarkets and a general store within a short distance/quick walk from our street. It is mostly quiet, there's an international school next door that brings more traffic during the day but it quiets down in the afternoon.
Getting to my home
Easy access to train to Lisbon (40 min from Portela station in Sintra to Rossio in Lisbon).
There's plenty of street parking in front of the building.
Nearest airport
Humberto Delgado (LIS) airport is a 30 min-drive by Uber and it costs around 20 euros. Also accessible by combination metro/train - about 1 hour journey.
Getting around
Sintra's old historic center, palaces and the castle are about 20 minutes away by foot.
Further sites (mountain and beach) can be reached by bus from the main train/bus station Portela just down the street, less than a 10 minutes walk.
Bus 434 takes visitors on a more touristy route.

We are Beatriz and Jason, we love discovering new countries and finding people who enjoy life and nature as much as we do. I am a biochemist and he is an architect. When we travel, I go as an explorer and he works remotely for an office based in Washington DC.
2025 will be our third year with another home exchange platform (55 exchanges, all successful).
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
