Our house is eclectic and fun. It is relatively new, but built with historic materials. In other words, it is really neat and functions well in terms of kitchen, plumbing etc. Most people think it is old.
Bywater is a very bohemian spot with some of the oldest properties in New Orleans. It is down river from the French Quarter and originally housed many free people of color serving the tradesman role for the burgeoning city. Today it is a walkable slice of eateries, park spaces and neighborhood bars. The best plate lunch/sandwich spot is half a block on the corner. The park space around the corner has a great kids play area and is the gathering spot for The Day of the Dead Parade, the Naked Bike Run and other local events. Two blocks to the Mississippi river is a linear park from Bywater to the foot of the French Quarter (about 25 minute walk). The jazz clubs on Frenchman street are nearby and the area is awash with eateries of all types.
We are both New Orleans natives and love the parade of straight, gay, crazy, not crazy and families with young kids.
The space
The first floor is open with lots of great windows. The living space opens to a lush deck space with good sitting spots and overhead happy lights. We have lots of local art of all sorts. The space is terrific but not in the least bit stuffy. Both bedrooms (1 king, 1 queen) are upstairs with full private baths, and exterior balconies (one on the street and one overlooking the deck). We have one off-street parking place which is a big plus in this urban setting.
Guest access
Two floors, Bedrooms on the second floor.
Notes
Although Bywater is a great walking neighborhood, Uber, cabs, and public transit are plentiful. We also have one off street parking spot for those preferring to rent a car.,

We are a pair of empty nesters living our post child rearing years in one the oldest neighborhoods in New Orleans. The Bywater area has a great Bohemian vibe full of every description of New Orleans character.
We are both New Orleans natives who cherish the city and particularly the older neighborhoods. We enjoy the mixture of crazy, straight, gay, regular, corner lunch spots and chatting with everyone who walks past. Lots of dogs and young families among them.
We are friendly, easy going, responsible people who care for our property and would be particularly kind to another person's property.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
