Welcome to La Tour Blanche, our much-loved French home in the heart of the Dordogne wine country.

Our house is a spacious, characterful five-bedroom home set among the vineyards of Monbazillac, just outside Bergerac. It sits on a large 5,200 m² private property, with wonderful views across the surrounding vineyards towards the Dordogne valley and Château de Monbazillac.

The house combines the charm and character of an old French country home with the comforts you would want for a relaxing stay. There is a large, comfortable living room with a traditional fireplace and wood burner, a modern, well-equipped kitchen, a dining area and five bedrooms, including a lovely bedroom in the house's round tower.

Outside is where we spend much of our time. There is a large private garden with plenty of space to relax, a hammock, outdoor dining areas and a beautiful 11.5-metre swimming pool. The terrace overlooks the pool and vineyards, making it a wonderful place for long lunches, evening drinks and watching the sunset.

We're surrounded by vineyards, but we're also very close to Bergerac, so you get the best of both worlds: peace and countryside at home, with restaurants, shops, markets and everything you need only a short drive away. Château de Monbazillac is just 3 km away, and there is even a local wine shop about 900 metres from the house.

The Dordogne is a fantastic area to explore, with beautiful villages, castles, markets, rivers, wine estates and excellent restaurants. Bergerac is close by, while places such as Sarlat, Saint-Émilion and the Dordogne valley make great day trips.

This is our home rather than a purpose-built holiday property, so it has a relaxed, lived-in feel, with books, comfortable spaces and everything you need to enjoy a longer stay.

We would particularly love to exchange with people who appreciate good food, wine, walking, cycling, history and the French countryside.

Lowlights (aka, let's get real):
* You should probably have a car. The nearest grocery store is less than a five-minute drive away, but it isn't a pleasant walk — it's along a very busy road with no pavement (sidewalk). We have had family friends stay here without a car, and they managed, but it does mean you're primarily stuck at the house. Uber Eats does deliver groceries to us, but there is so much lovely stuff to see nearby that I think it would be a shame not to have a car.
* We live in the countryside. We do our best to keep the mouse population under control, but the number is never quite zero.
* There is a surprising amount of wildlife. You may encounter molehills in the garden, the occasional glimpse of a garden snake in the back hedges, geckos, some weird birds who fight in the tree in the front yard (WHY? It's hilarious, but so weird), or wasps in the carport. (I don't mind the bees or the occasional wasp, but if they start getting swarmy, I call an exterminator and immediately declare war.) It's a constant battle, but one I attack as soon as it rears its ugly head.
* We are surrounded by farmers and farming. Well, they have tractors, so I call them farmers. Vintners? I grew up in wheat country in Kansas, so I tend to lump everyone together as farmers. 😂 This means life is mostly completely normal, but occasionally you'll experience a power cut, water outage or internet failure because a farmer has run over something they shouldn't have. 

If any of the lowlights puts you off, it's totally understandable. Life in the countryside isn't for everyone!

The tower room has its own bathroom but narrow stairs to climb from the kitchen.  Total of 3 bathrooms.  It's French, so they have the separated toilets in the 2 bathrooms we didn't build. The two single bedrooms/offices above the living room can be used.

Bergerac - as in Cyrano de Bergerac. Lovely old city. 3km away
Monbazillac - famous dessert wine and a wee little village at the top of the hill 1.5km away
Issigeac (pronounced like Issy-shack) - 12m drive away from our house; one of the top 10 markets in France. Every Sunday morning.
Sarlat is about 1h 20m away. Truly special medival city
In summer, you can rent kayaks/canoes to meander down the Dordogne river

Getting Around

You need to have a car. We are in the countryside.  UberEats will deliver from grocery stores, but that feels so grim to be stuck at the house the whole time!

Husband and I are nearing retirement. We're looking to travel a wee bit more. We both have completely remote job and no children at home. We  live in Luxembourg but own our home in France. Completely new to exchanging!
