General overview

Our home in Provence was built by a French architect who perfectly blended a small modern house full of sunlight into the rough stone walls of a hilltop village between Luberon and Mont Ventoux in the South of France. The rooms are grouped around a wooden patio with Olive tree and small infinity pool. When you open the large sliding windows on the ground floor, the boundaries between indoor and outdoor completely disappear, creating a relaxing atmosphere, open and spacious, while at the same time protected and secluded from all views.

The space

On the ground floor, you will find a well equipped open kitchen area with dining table, a living room area with wood-burning fireplace, an office area with worktop and large screen, a bathroom with walk-in shower, and a separate WC. Upstairs, there are 2 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a double bed and ensuite; the second bedroom has 2 single beds and a washbasin. Since our home has floor heating and fireplace on the ground floor as well as radiators in the bedrooms upstairs, it is cosy to live in all year round. It is also well insulated, ventilated and shaded, so that temperatures remain bearable even in very hot summers. Therefore, we did not install an air conditioning system. The outdoor shower under the olive tree and the refreshing unheated infinity pool provide wonderful ways to cool off.

Guest access

The house adapts to the shape of the hill, which is why it has several different levels, staircases and steps. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for people with mobility restrictions.

Notes

The house is not suitable for people who cannot swim.

Neighbourhood

Our village with a few hundred inhabitants lies quiet and secluded between vineyards, lavender fields, olive groves and cherry trees on a ridge above a canyon, the Gorges de la Nesque, near Mont Ventoux. In the village, you will find a cafe where you can buy fresh bread or have a drink enjoying spectacular views. During summer, there is a lovely garden restaurant just a few steps down our street. You can start hiking right from our doorstep, or you can take a car to visit major attractions of the Provence which are just around the corner, as for example Venasque, rated one of the most beautiful villages of France (10 km), Abbaye de Senanque, the iconic monastry in lavender fields (20 km), Village des Bories, the largest collection of Provençal dry-stone circular buildings called borie (20 km), L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, known for its numerous antique stores in a magnificent setting (30 km), Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, the biggest source in France, with its breathtaking crystal clear blue and green waters (30 km)

We are a couple 50+ and we love nature, hiking, sailing, jazz, food, wine, art and many other things. Currently, our jobs (researcher and editor) allow both of us to work remotely. That’s why we decided to try home swapping and discover other spots on the planet. We don’t have any specific destinations in mind yet; we will be happy for your suggestion to swap our Provence home with another beautiful place in the world. All we really need is fast, reliable Internet.
