General overview
I have a 1 bedroom apartment near Piedmont Ave in Oakland. It’s in the attic of a house (separate entrance), my landlady lives downstairs. She’s great and well-traveled. I confirmed it’s okay to swap with her, she’s excited by the idea and would want to chat with you too.
The space
The apartment gets great light!
Well set up kitchen with Vitamix, air fryer, etc. Table in the kitchen.
There is an office nook. I work 100% remote from home so have a great home office setup with additional monitor, sit/stand desk and can even be a walking desk if you want.
The bedroom is a separate room but closes with a curtain, so probably better for one person.
Guest access
Steps up to second floor top of house apartment.

Neighbourhood
I live in a super cute residential area 2-3 minutes from Piedmont Ave, an artsy downtown area with a cinema, cafes, boba shops, tea shop, green grocer, yoga studios, small gym, restaurants, bars, etc.
The homes are really pretty here and always flowers blooming, even in winter!
Getting to my home
You can take the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) from SFO to MacArthur or Rockridge, they are a 20-25 min walk away. Or take pub transit from OAK airport.
Nearest airport
SFO and OAK are both about 1h away on pub transit
Getting around
I'm a 20-25 minute walk from two different BART stations, MacArthur and Rockridge, which get you to San Francisco in 20 minutes (plus the walk so 40 min). There's also many buses within 5 minutes that can take you to Berkeley and Downtown Oakland.
Few minutes walk to Piedmont Ave, an artsy street with shops, restaurants and a movie theater. A big Safeway supermarket right down the road. 15 minute walk to Temescal, with lots of bars and restaurants. 20 minute walk to Rockridge, more shops, bars and restaurants.

I'm a software engineer working fully remotely. My home base is in northern Oakland, CA on public transit lines to San Francisco, Berkeley, etc. I do the digital nomading thing occasionally, which is why I'm on this site!
I lived in Germany for 13 years and am a US-German dual citizen. Looking to spend some time in London to collect some info on whether I'd want to move there in the future.
I've done a few home swaps before, manually over Facebook groups. They were all a great success! Just learned about this site, so figured I'd try it!
I'm pretty low key. Non-smoker, not a partier anymore. In places I visit you will mostly find me going for long walks, trying out vegan restaurants and exploring the supermarkets, haha.
"Looking for a longer swap in London this spring 2025 for a few months-ish. I put in March 1-May 31 but that's flexible on exact dates.
Maybe another digital nomad, etc. wants to swap and spend time in sunny California?"
