Neighbourhood

Our home is on a friendly and economically and racially diverse street in the Bywater area of New Orleans. We are on a quiet street, yet approximately a half mile to some of the best bars and restaurants in the Bywater including Jack Dempsey’s, Bar Redux, Bratz Ya'll, Bacchanal Wine, Parleaux Beer Lab, and many more along St. Claude Ave. In New Orleans, like many urban areas, it is best to call a taxi or Uber/Lyft at night. While our street and neighbors are wonderful and safe,, walking around in the city, including to and from our neighborhood, is not recommended anywhere in the city. You will hear an occasionally train or barge. Even a rooster crowing. It is a part of the charm of our diverse neighborhood. If you prefer to visit the French Quarter we are about two miles away from the French Market, but there is plenty to do in within 1 miles to keep you busy.

Getting around

There are plenty of cool restaurants and shops with about a one mile walk. Uber is easy and safer at night in New Orleans than walking, but the bus a few streets away will also take you directly to the French Quarter or to the historic St. Claude Ave. Street Car if you prefer.

Darlene

We are two university professors in our 50’s. Reggie left a 21 year corporate year to teach engineering. Darlene teaches accounting.. We have been married over 30 years, and we have a well traveled 25 year old son who occasionally travels with us depending on his schedule. We have travelled frequently in the US and abroad. We have also lived and taught abroad. We have always enjoyed staying in homes, well before it became popular. We just enjoy the local experience, going to farmers markets, sitting at a local wine bar. We don't have parties, loud music (without our headphones), and are very respectful of your home, as we hope you will be with ours. We have over 60 5* completed exchanges on another platform. We love home exchanging! Our houses are in New Orleans, in a bohemian area called The Bywater; and coastal South Carolina very close to the beach (less than 2 miles), a day trip to Charleston is less than 2 hours away.
