General overview
Escape to the quiet joy of genuine rural residential Australian farm style living in a two bedroom, two storey solid concrete home, somewhat Mediterranean in style, bursting with character and including some indigenous art.
Suits couples seeking unhurried peace and quiet, in which to experience the famous Aussie flora and fauna at your doorstep. And the local village cafes and quiet, uncrowded, pristine beaches are just a 5 minute drive away - and everyday stresses are much further away! The location works well as a base for adventurous souls seeking to experience the many coastal / wild attractions within a an hour or 2 drive ... bush walking in Dorrigo National Park, or the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area ... whale watching ... surfing ... scuba diving ... exploring remote 4WD accessed beaches often totally alone.
Set on 2 Ha (5 acres) of coastal rural land, overlooking a native sub tropical rain forest, with beautiful gardens (many Australian native shrubs and flowers, and some exotics) that is blessed with an abundance of bird life, wallabies and other native Australian animals (parrots, bandicoots, micro bats etc).
Three co-residents (my son and his family) also live on the property (in a separate secondary dwelling) and actively manage it... meaning you will see them on the property.
We have 2 acres of gardens (including chickens, veggies, fruits, citrus trees) in a native sub tropical garden setting, bordered by 3 acres of wild native forest.
You will need a vehicle for access to beaches and cafes all within 5 km.
If I am not traveling I may be available to show you some of the more remote / rugged delights of the area ... "going bush" in my 4WD vehicle.
We operate a "no kids, no pets" rule and so it's not suited to family holidays. If however you wish to bring one small child (0 - 6 yo), we may permit if specified and agreed in the home swap agreement.
Recommended minimum stay is 6 nights.
The space
Fully equipped self contained home, 4 bedrooms (of which you have access to two, both with queen beds), a work space area, a fully equipped kitchen, lounge with indoor wood fire, one bathroom (shower no bath) and laundry, a covered back patio/veranda, and another large outdoor upstairs balcony ( lovely for morning sun yoga ).
In the 2 acres of gardens you might discover uniquely Australian native birds, wallabies, critters, flowers, and seasonal citrus fruits trees. You can visit the walk in orchard the chickens, and veggie garden. Surrounded in an amphitheater of 50 m high "flooded gum" trees - this is a nature connected, peaceful, Aussie sub-tropical living experience with lots of creature comforts.
You will love the gentle sub-tropical climate, returning from the local beaches, cafes, markets and towns to enjoy the spectacular forest view (perhaps with a BBQ and wine on the the covered back verandah). As night falls, spark up a fire in the fire-pit that is just 8 meters from your kitchen door and enjoy evenings under the stars away from city lights.
An extensive on site network provides high speed unlimited internet (Starlink).
Guest access
Your house has 2 floors with stairs (not suitable for wheelchairs) up to the 2 upstairs bedrooms and
the large outside balcony
On the ground floor: -
Open plan kitchen, living / dining room
Bathroom / laundry
Sitting room / reading nook , includes TV and study desk.
Back Outside Patio (covered, fans, lighting, BBQ)
Parking: You will have off street parking space (in a quiet/safe cul de sac) adjacent to the house.
Gardens/Grounds: You will have access to the majority (75%) of the property grounds, gardens and forest. There will be some areas of the property a) down towards and in the forest that you will not always have access to - as my on-site family run an AirBnb business (from a very cool converted 1977 Mercedes bus, 60m+ and from the back of your house and very well screened) - and when occupied the AirBnb guests privacy is respected in that bottom corner/area of the property. and b) around their house, the workshop, the garden office etc.
Notes
The property co-residents and managers (my 54yo son + his french partner + their 5yo child) live on the property in a different house. It is a separate house, but it is located right next to (3m away) your primary house / accommodation... so you will see each other. They are welcoming, mature, quiet, respectful of your privacy, down to earth, well traveled, keen gardeners and foodies - and have spent the last 7 years helping develop and nurture the property into what it is today... beautiful and functional!
They work from home and actively maintain the property including all facilities, the gardens, the orchard, feeding the chickens and so on..... can simply relax!
As they will (normally) be on-site (and you will see them), they can fix any issues that may arise (eg. any issue with water, electricity, plumbing, appliances, etc), answer any questions you may have about the property/house, the local area and attractions, explain the local flora and fauna, and so on.
Fires allowed only in the fire pit provided. No smoking inside, but you can smoke outside.
No parties or events are allowed, and you will need to pre-notify the resident family / on-site managers of visitors, guest and other cars parking on site.
