Neighbourhood

Alstonville is a town of about 6000 residents. It is located 10km from the nearest beach (Ballina) and a short drive to other beautiful beaches, some of which are world famous for their surf. If you fancy a day out doing some celebrity spotting, we are a 35 minute drive to Byron Bay, the most easterly point in Australia and home to several Hollywood actors, including Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Matt Damon. We are a 50 minute drive to the Gold Coast and a 2 hour drive to Brisbane, the capital city of the state of Queensland. The hippie village of Nimbin which was the site of the 1973 Aquarius Festival is only an hour's drive away. Alstonville has one main street with a selection of coffee shops and other specialty shops, including one pub (hotel), plus a small shopping plaza with a supermarket.. For walkers and hikers, we have several national parks nearby with picturesque walks and plenty of wildlife. The Mt Warning caldera is 45 minutes away and a haven for bush walkers. Our nearest airport is Ballina/Byron Airport which caters for domestic arrivals and departures. The nearest international airports are at the Gold Coast and Brisbane. There is an airport shuttle bus from Brisbane Airport to Alstonville which also picks up at the Gold Coast.

Getting Around

Our house is 400 metres from the main street, so everything is within easy walking distance. For trips to the beach, national parks or other towns a car is essential as public transport isn't very good.
