Neighbourhood
We live in a residential area but around there are so many things! the center of Montlhery has kept its medieval character with paved streets, old church, medieval tower, park, only 3 min drive from home. All the shops you need are in town: the typical French "boulangerie" of course with great pastries, cheese shop (great!), butchers, wine shop, books and newspaper, cigarettes, post office, esthetic shops, souvenirs, pharmacy, etc. a swimming pool. The market is in town on Saturday morning and Wednesday morning. We also have malls and supermarkets around (Intermarché, Carrefour), and many restaurants around, all kinds! from gastronomic to French Britany region (crêpes !), pizza, fish, Moroccan, etc. You won't have time to try them all!
Getting around
If you like to walk in a nice environment, or run or take the bicycle, you ought to go the Longpont Basilic where you can park easily. This church was built in the XVth century and has the oldest reliquary in Europe! It is very active and there are concerts, mass on Sundays, etc. and around the environment is great in calm: horses, lakes, 12kms walk path and even 42 kms if you take the bike and go further in the area (most are only pedestrian paths). That is where we run every week... and in the summer time, you can stop to taste a French "crêpes", sit down and look at the fisherman, listen to music or watch people bringing their picnics. Very lively area.

Solange and her husband were our guests for 4 days. They treated our home like their own and left it very clean and tidy. Communication with both of them was also very warm and uncomplicated. Solange even provided us with photos and information about her activities during her stay, which we thought was great.
It was a wonderful exchange and we would welcome them back to our home at any time. Hopefully one day we will manage to spend a few days in Solange's home.
It has been very easy to arrange this last minute exchange and Solange was an excellent guest. She shared photos and her experiences and I felt very relaxed about this experience. Unfortunately we have not met in-person yet but I am sure our paths will cross again in the near future.
Thank you again for taking care of our home. We really appreciated this exchange. Do not hesitate to come back whenever you want, our house is wide open to you!
Sylvie and Stéphane!
We had the chance to meet Solange and Emmanuel to leave them the keys to our house and it was a real pleasure to spend this time with them.
We left with confidence and very happy to leave our house in good hands!
Solange and Emmanuel are adorable, we were able to chat several times during our vacation.
It was our 2nd exchange and we are really delighted and comforted in the idea of continuing this incredible adventure on PLU!
Our July 2022 exchange with Solange was a globe exchange.
During our 3.5 weeks holiday in Québec, also PLU exchange, we hosted 3 back-to-back PLU guests, and Solange was the 3rd in line!
To say that I was a apprehensive about this crazy organisation in the beginning is an understatement. I was nervous about not being able to prep our home myself so that each guest would feel properly welcomed. But everything went so well, every guest was very conscientious about the following guests and Solange made our homecoming one of the best ones we've had so far!
Throughout the organisation and during Solange's stay, our communication was very smooth and friendly and cozy. Solange is very thoughful and reassuring, she, her husband Emmanuel and their friend took amazing care of our home and our furry Oreo.
We kept contact regularly during their entire stay which was very fun.
Solange made sure our home was fully ready for our comeback, it was spotless, our garden was well groomed, all laundry was done, they made sure we had food for our arrival, and we showered with gifts, we were very touched!
All in all, we had a lovely experience with Solange and we are very much looking forward to meeting her and Emmanuel in person!
Solange and Emmanuel were the perfect exchange partners - even more than perfect. We had two years contact before we swapped. And it felt as if long-missed friends finally were coming. We had a nice evening together. They are so friendly, generous and kind. I miss them already. We were so spoilt with lovely gifts and a fridge full of French specialities. We visited the region, Monet's garden in Giverny and Paris. It was lovely.
They took fantastic care of our three cats, watered the garden and left our home spotless. This exchange was perfect and heartwarming. We were astonished of their level of energy. They went to Idstein, Limburg, Burg Eltz, Monreal, Marksburg, Holzbachschlucht, Bad Ems … we really hope to meet again. They are not exchange partners, they are friends 💕
Solange and Emmanuel were perfect guests. They really took care of our home and animals. During their stay, we sent each others messages which was very pleasant. We have one regret, we didn't have the chance to meet them for real, but i am sure we'll keep in touch!
A wonderfull hospitality and experience.
Ada and I had a wonderful 3 weeks non reciprocal exchange with Solange and Emmanuel's large and comfortable house with a lovely garden. My daughter, her son and friend joint later and stayed for a couple of days. Upon arrival Solange left us some information what to do and see around the area There were also traintickets for us to travel to Paris. But most of all we appreciate that she left for each of us a personal gift. Every morning we loved to see the squirrels and the birds in the garden. The kitchen, dining and living room had all glas sliding doors so the house is very light and bright. In the basement you will find
A home theater with a big screen and lots of films to chose from.
The house is located a few kms south of Paris and great to visit also Versailles, Chartres and Fontainebleau . Within 10 minutes drive you will find a trainstation with a direct connection to the Notre Dame and the Eifel tower.Supermarkets like the Carrefour and Intermarché are just a few minutes drive.
From the beginning the communication ( email and Whatsapp) before and during our stay was excellent . It felt so familiar and seems if we knew each other for a long time.
Thank you Solange and Emmanuel for your warm welcome, your kindness, trust and hospitality.
I certainly can recommend an exchange with Solange and Emmanuel
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
We had the pleasure to host Karolyn and her two lovely daughters for 3 days in our home while we were also there. It has been a great pleasure to help them with their organization and visits.
Karolyn invited us in a very nice restaurant to thank us for hosting them and we had a great time together. She tought me a bit about her beautiful island... it seems to be paradise!
I can only recommend Karolyn, she is lovely and trustworthy.
Come back when you want Karolyn!
:-)
Solange
We spent 3 days at Claudia and Thomas's (for a globe) and were delighted with our stay! Firstly because our hosts had prepared our arrival with great care and attention, and the communication was very pleasant and fluid before, during and even after the exchange. Their apartment is very nice and we felt at home there. The large terrace is very pleasant and it was really nice to have dinner there in the evening. We slept very well because the village is very very quiet and charming. We walked around the area on foot and you can have beautiful views of the lake and the countryside is beautiful.
As for everything you can see around, the list is long, and we will have to come back because we limited ourselves to the Rhine Falls (impressive!), the pretty town of Steim am Rhein. A mention for St. Gallen which is very pleasant (especially visiting the library which is a gem). We wanted to go to the Sänti mountain side, it's worth it, especially if the weather is nice. And the lake is very nice for swimming :-)
In short, a very successful stay that will leave us with only good memories!
Thank you Claudia and Thomas! You are welcome to stay with us whenever you want :-)
Gail and Garry stayed with us for 3 weeks and we had the pleasure of sharing a lunch at home before we left on holiday. They are wonderful guests, lovely people to spend time with. They are really trustworthy and took a great care of the house, our plants, the garden and the vegetable garden... it was incredible to come back from vacation and find everything spotless, the terrace swept, nice presents waiting for us, what a joy! We had many small talks on WhatsApp before and during their stay to keep us informed of their visits, exchange a few words, the communication was ideal. We are delighted to have known them and we hope to have the opportunity to see them again. For sure we will stay in touch.
Gail & Garry, please come back anytime! :-)
Emmanuel and I have spent a week in Palmira's and Joerg's flat in Portimao and we are very grateful. Palmira accepted to host us kind of a last minute request against a globe, and all was prepared perfectly. The communication with Palmira is very friendly and reactive and it was a pleasure communicating with her.
The appartment is on 2 level (duplex) and has 2 large terraces from where you can see the sea, how pleasant in the morning! We were are ease as the appartment is very confortable and well equiped, really perfect!
The group of flats is close to the beach, you get there in less than 10 minutes so it is really easy and you can choose to pass by the common swimming pool. We did not have the time to have a swim there but it is very large and there is also an internal swimming pool. Perfect for warm or hot days.
At Portimao, you can find a lot of restaurants, shops and so on as it is a lively area. The beach is beautifull and you can walk for almost 2 kilometers on the beach, reaching the nice marina. The sea is clear and appealing and we had a swim - although in May you have to be a bit brave :-D
We could visit the West side (within an hour) and also Faro, and many other places. We had a pleasant time and we can really recommend Palmira as a great host!
Pamira, Joerg: thank you to both of you for offering us this vacation week building up wonderful memories :-)
We hope that our paths will cross one day.
We stayed 3 weeks with Sylvie and Stéphane and made two separate requests on the PLU site to facilitate the delivery of two globes (our wonderful stay was well worth it!).
One of our best "exchanges".
Thank you Sylvie and Stéphane for welcoming us so well.
We were very lucky to be hosted for 3 weeks by Sylvie and Stéphane. Our stay was just perfect! First, our hosts accepted that we could have a family reunion at their place for the first week and we were able to spend unforgettable family moments, in an ideal setting. We were able to get to know Sylvie and Stéphane and their children when we arrived, because they had invited us to a dinner together before leaving on vacation just after, it was very friendly, and perfect for benefiting from their advice. They offered us many local specialties and welcome gifts, it was really a 5 star welcome!
The house is spacious, well equipped, decorated with great taste; we have a breathtaking view of the Vercors and the Chartreuse from the terrace and we never got tired of it... The swimming pool was also very pleasant! And I liked taking care of the vegetable garden which gave us delicious zucchini and tomatoes :-)
As for the region, it is simply splendid. We haven't been around in 3 weeks! From the house our hosts can make many excursions (in the Vercors, to Alpe Huez, to Chamrousse, to several lakes, to the monastery of the Grande Chartreuse). The nearby town of Voiron is pleasant, with its twice-weekly market, numerous traders and supermarkets, its outstanding artisan chocolate maker (Bonnat), the delicious Chavant "brasserie" (gourmet restaurant). We also recommend a visit to the Chartreuse liqueur factory in Voiron, which is very interesting!
In short, a fantastic stay with a charming family, don't hesitate for a moment if you are lucky enough to catch their attention!
We had the pleasure to welcome Alan and Doris at home, together with Loretta & Ken, Cal & Misty. We were happy to be able to share our house and some tips about what could be seen in the region. Alan was so organized about the trip that all was already perfectly planned before they arrived!
It was great to meet in person upon their arrival at the train station. We wish we could have spent more time discussing with this lovely group of people.
Alan & Doris and their family members were great hosts and we stayed in touch during their whole stay. They took great care of the house and watered all tomatoe plants that I planned to plant after I came back, it was very precious for me! And they did their best job to wash all towels before leaving in order to reduce the laundry work for us. Thank you!
Alan was agile driving our car and all went fine on that aspect too :-) Congratulations! Driving in France might be a bit challenging sometimes as rules and signs are different than in the US.
You can definitively be confident and host Alan and family!
We had the pleasure to host Kathy for 11 days (against a globe as we were not sure that we would be able to travel to Texas someday). We had the chance to meet rapidly at home together with her friend Inez and it was a real pleasure. We had been in touch already for a while to share about the trip, the house, sites to visits, etc. and we were happy to see each other.
Kathy is really the perfect host! She very nicely and steadily watered all the plants inside the house and in the garden, and I know that it must have taken her some time... in particular as the summer has been particularly hot this year. I found everything in great shape when we came back and they left the house spic and span. They even whashed the linen, towels, prepared our bed so it was ready for the night, left presents... how wonderful and special to come back home and feel so welcome!
So we warmly recommend you to swap with Kathy.
Thank you Kathy! We are so glad you contacted us. We hope to meet again in the future :-)
We spent 11 wonderful days with Catherine and Eric, plus wonderful weather. The house is ideal: spacious, well equipped, with a pleasant landscaped garden for eating outside and enjoying moments of relaxation outdoors. It is quiet, the road in front not being very busy and facing a pretty canal. From the house you can easily go anywhere in town quickly. We had brought our bikes and really enjoyed the city but also excursions: Kinderwijk with its 19 mills - a 50th km trip -, Dordrecht, a pretty port city; we had put the bikes in the waterbus to return by bike at the end of the day. From Rotterdam we also went to Delft, Gouda, Oudewater, Woerden (where we had spent a week but we like it a lot), Utrecht and the beaches (Monster our favorite with Hoek van Holland, Katewijk aan zee). And we didn't have time to visit The Hague and other points of interest, you won't be bored in the area!
We were very regularly in contact with Catherine, who was always very attentive and it was a pleasure to exchange in this friendly way. Catherine lent us her bike for a friend who came to join us and really made our stay easier for everything! The house was prepared with care (she had organized everything so that Carmen who came before us could prepare the house) and we were touched by their gifts and card left for our attention. There was documentation and everything you need for a perfect stay.
Thank you again Catherine and Eric for your trust and warm welcome! We hope you will want to come to our house one of these days :-)
Dear Solange, we are very touched by your message and all that you have done for us, we are very grateful!
We are also very happy to learn that you had a great time with us and during your many excursions!
See you very soon, we will surely visit you in the near future! :-)
We had the chance to meet with Elaine and Lowell for a lunch at home just before we left for our vacation. They both are lovely people and it was so pleasant to have this opportunity to discuss and get to know each other.
They took really great care of our house and even agree to prepare it in order to welcome the next swappers, as we could not come in between the two stays. It was really appreciated! But this was not all, they also spent some time every day watering the vegetable garden and all the plants in the garden which was so important for me, especially as the summer has been so hot in France. Thank you Elaine and Lowell!
They left our house spic and span as well as our car.
We hope we will meet again in Arkansas if we finally decide to go to the US.
You should not hesitate one second to swap with those lovely guests!
Swapping with Camilla and Peter was really friendly and pleasant. We had the chance to have met them before they came to our home because they first hosted us for a night before they left. So we could get to know each other in real, even though we had been in touch for 2 years on WhatsApp before the swap. They had prepared a nice dinner and we had a very good time together.
They took great care of our house and they kept us informed on what was going on which was really appreciated as it maintained the link all the time and we felt they were at ease and enjoyed their stay.
We found our home immaculate when we came back. They left a wonderful bouquet of flowers, a very interesting book about Giverny where they had been during their stay, a nice card, lovely napkins... we felt really touched.
They also watered the plants and the tomates in the vegetable garden and it was so confortable for us to know they were doing all this for us... how special!
Camilla and Peter are a very friendly and trustworthy couple and we would for sure like to keep in touch for future swaps or PLU meetings!
The house of Camilla and Peter is really beautiful, new, with nice furniture, confortable beds, nice bathroom, cosy with a nice terrace and wonderful garden. You feel well immediatly. We were lucky because Camilla and Peter invited us for dinner and prepared a nice meal and took us downtown to show us around. It was a great way to start our trip! They are both so lovely. They left us many good things to enjoy and a great bottle of wine... they even gave us one more as we liked it so much! :-D
We liked the residential area where they lived. You can go to the center walking, there are shops for food, clothes, house decoration, wonderful icecream shops and good restaurants. If you take the car you can visit many great places from 10 minutes to an hour. We went to Idstein, Marksburg, Eltz burg, Bad Ems (we recommend to take the opportunity to go the spa and swimming pool center), we had good walk in the forest, loved Limburg. We stayed only 4 days and could have stayed much longer as there were many other nice things to do. The cats did not required too much work, they are beautiful and very shy. Kasimir started to get used to us after 2 days and we could even hug him :-)
Do not hesitate if you have the chance to be hosted by Camilla and Peter. We had a great time and will cherish those great souvenirs!
We were very lucky to see the solicitation of Joan and Nicolas who were looking for a charitable soul to keep their little cat and guinea pig: we offered "our services" and were delighted to discover Lyon for 4 days. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts who had planned everything for a pleasant stay: the house prepared, dinner (and much more!) the evening of our arrival and lots of advice for visiting. We were in touch with Joan throughout our stay and it was a real pleasure to share our program, to have suggestions for live restaurants, or visits, which we followed to the letter :-D
The house is charming, there is royal silence and the nights are perfect (both in terms of bedding and calm!). The kitchen is equipped with everything you need for cooking. There is a lot of light, an enclosed garden isolated from view. There is enough to take beautiful walks in the large park of Jonage; Joan and Nicolas had kindly lent us their bikes and it was very pleasant because you can access them in 5 minutes from the house.
We walked, walked, walked in Lyon, climbed, climbed, climbed hundreds of steps, admired the landscape, took advantage of our round trips to visit Bourg-en-Bresse, Cluny. You can see a lot of things in the region, access Lyon by train, really no risk of getting bored! and I guarantee you that foodies won't be disappointed either :-D
Do not hesitate to exchange with Joan and Nicolas, it is a great pleasure to meet hosts who have the true spirit of exchange :-)
Thank you again for this wonderful hospitality!
Solange and Emmanuel
Hello Solange and Emmanuel for your nice comment. We were lucky, for our first exchange on this site, to have you as a partner. A perfect experience that only makes you want to start again!
We received Tony in our home for 3 weeks this summer and it was a great pleasure for many reasons: communication was excellent, arrangements before his coming were easy to agree on, Tony was very careful with our house and left it as he found it... almost as we found many nice presents waiting for us when we returned!
It was a little bit of work for him to water the plants and the garden and also send regularly the mail to my mother as it was redirected in our home. He did it with no hesitation nor reluctancy and we were very grateful.
We also had good discussion on WhatsApp during and after his stay, so it was as if we knew each other for a long time :-)
You should not hesitate a second to swap with Tony!
