General overview
My home is a spacious appartment in a pre-war, well kept building in a quiet residential quartier. It has retained original wooden floors, hundred years old doors and bourgois ambiance, but got well equipped kitchen, books, a smart TV and children's toys added. I love ideas of minimalism and sustainable living - they brought me to the home exchange, and they are reflected in our home, with its decluttered look and simple furniture (almost all vintage or second hand). As a university teacher I often work from home, so my flat also has a speedy wi-fi.
Guest access
There is no lift, and the appartment is situated in the first floor.

Neighbourhood
Our appartment in Krakow, two tram stops/walking distance from the Central Train Station and the Main Square and all the best attractions of the former capital of Poland. The neighborhood is serene, with wide streets lined by mature trees. The best place to live in a busy, touristy Krakow if you enjoy peace and quiet.
There is a small caffee (wonderful for breakfast) in the same street and a couple of grocery stores nearby.
Krakow itself is the main attraction though. In the middle ages and early modernity was an established seat of power, learning, and trade. It was a major urban centre, a cradle of secular and church authorities and (with a university founded in 1364) a city linked by a network of intellectual and commertial connections with other European kingdoms.
Its past shapes its future: the historical centre, with the biggest mediaeval square in Poland, has been constructed and reconstructed for 8 centuries. There is the Wawel castle, with its stunning collection of Renaissance tapestries, beautiful churches, gothic university buildings, numerous museums, and the former Jewish quarter. Foodies will be happy too, as well as those who want to stroll in the city's parks, ride a bike along Vistula river, or just rewind in one of many cafes that line Krakow's streets.
Public transport will take you everywhere, including stunning saltmines of Wieliczka.
Getting to my home
When getting to Krakow's Main Train Station (e.g. from the airport) you can get to my place on foot or by bus or tram (two stops in each case).
Nearest airport
Kraków Balice, 9 km
Getting around
It is 4 minutes from our place to the bus stop from where bus 152 will take you to the downtown area (Rynek Główny, University, Błonia, and towards Kościuszko Mound) and 8 minutes to the tram station with trams leaving into many directions. From both of these these stops it takes about 6-8 minutes to get to the stop called ”teatr Słowackiego” that is both the one for the train station (Dworzec Główny with trains leaving for the airport and Wieliczka saltmines too) and the heart of Krakow, formerly surrounded by city walls.

I am a university teacher and a historian researching early printed books. But not a collector, so you will not find any such items in my house. Sorry, no chance for a Gutenberg Bible! There are books and children's toys and a coffee machine instead... I enjoy nature (especially mountains and forests) and places of historical intrest. But when when travelling I often do it with my family, who loves horses, dogs and animals in general, who enjoys beaches and sunshine, as well as reading books in a quiet corner. We have two dogs, but, as a rule they do not travel with us and stay in Poland with a person they know and like. We will be more than happy to take care of your pets, while you are away though.
