Neighbourhood
Our home is located in a quiet, elevated spot along Beach Road, perfectly positioned right between Browns Bay and Rothesay Bay on Auckland's North Shore. It’s a peaceful, family-friendly coastal community where you get the relaxing pace of a seaside suburb while staying well-connected to greater Auckland.
Two Beaches Within Walking Distance: Walk down the hill to Browns Bay for a wide, sandy beach with a grassy reserve, playground, and bustling beachfront promenade. Or, head over to Rothesay Bay for a quieter, more sheltered local cove that’s ideal for a quick swim or peaceful afternoon.
Vibrant Village Life: Browns Bay village offers everything you need for daily life—two full supermarkets, boutique shops, cozy cafes, bakeries, and seaside dining, all with a friendly, local feel.
Coastal Trails & Green Spaces: Directly along Beach Road, you can join the North Shore Coastal Walk and Te Araroa Trail to explore scenic clifftops overlooking the Hauraki Gulf and Rangitoto Island.
Local Gems & Hidden Secrets
Low-Tide Rock Walk: At low tide, you can walk around the rocky headland between Rothesay Bay and Browns Bay to explore hidden rock pools.
Penguino Gelato: A beloved village spot in Browns Bay serving artisanal, small-batch gelato made fresh daily.
The Grafted Tree: On the Browns Bay beachfront reserve, look out for a rare natural curiosity where a native Pohutukawa tree has naturally grafted onto a Pine tree.
Sherwood Reserve: A lovely nearby park with walking paths, duck ponds, and native longfin freshwater eels visible near the footbridge.
Sunday Flea Market: A Sunday morning staple in the village for vintage finds, pre-loved treasures, and local crafts.
Day Trips & Getting Around
Long Bay Regional Park (5-min drive): A massive protected reserve featuring broad grassy hills, clifftop walking tracks, BBQ spots, and the Long Bay Marine Reserve (great for snorkeling).
Auckland CBD & Beyond: Downtown Auckland is roughly a 25–30 minute drive away, making it easy to catch a ferry to Waiheke Island or visit the Viaduct Harbour. Direct bus routes run along Beach Road into the city and surrounding bays.

We are husband and wife with 2 kids based in Browns Bay, Auckland, New Zealand. My husband is in the building industry and I am in property. We have been travelling the world together since our early 20s and love to immerse ourselves in the local culture, specifically the food.
Our kids are foodies and adrenaline junkies but respect rules and safety.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
