General overview
We love our home because it is located in a pretty and quiet village, just minutes drive from Durham City. Our home has ever changing views over the countryside from the garden room at the back of the house and a view over the local church from the front.
Durham is a beautiful historic city which is conveniently located for day trips for sight seeing and walking. We head off to the Lakes District, North Yorkshire and Yorkshire Dales for lovely day trips.
The space
Cosy living room with open fire at the front of the house, dining room, kitchen and garden room at the back of the house. Utility and downstairs toilet. Upstairs you will find 3 double rooms, one is ensuite. The largest room has a king size bed and views out over the countryside. There is also a family bathroom with bath and separate shower. The third room is currently used as Pip's office but will be converted back into a double bedroom for exchanges.
Guest access
Guests will have use of the whole house, and garden. If we are doing a simultaneous exchange we can arrange for you to use our car if that helps you discover this beautiful part of England.
Notes
At the front of the house is a driveway suitable for upto 3 cars. At the rear the patio is south west facing and catches the sun all day into the evening. There is outdoor furniture to make the most of it. From the rear garden you can access straight into the field and walk for miles.
Durham University is one of the leading universities in the UK and our home would be great for families or friends wishing to visit their loved ones who are studying or working at the University.
Durham City is a UNESCO world heritage site with a world famous cathedral and 11th century castle.
From Durham you have easy access to Newcastle, County Durham, including being only 30 minutes from the world famous Kynren Spectacular if you visit in August. Day trips can be taken to Alnwick Castle (great if you are a Harry Potter Fan!), Hadrians wall and roman forts, Holy Island, Keilder Dark Skies, The Lake District, Whitby, York, Beamish Open Air Museum. The coast is only 20 minutes away and if you are a parkrunner you are spoilt for choice locally!
From Durham you can enjoy a beautiful train journey up the Coast to Edinburgh in less than 2 hours. London is 3 hours away by train.

Neighbourhood
In our village there is a lovely traditional village green. We have a popular village pub and village hall which hosts local events. The bus stop is a two minute walk from the house with a regular bus route into Durham City. The village also has a church and a lovely play park for children. You can walk from the house for miles across the countryside.
There are two farm shops within a couple of miles of the house. Both have good quality butchers and one has a lovely bakery where we buy our fresh sourdough.
Getting to my home
Our home is 5 miles from Durham City Train Station which is a stop for the main east coast train line running between London (3 hours) and Edinburgh (less than 2 hours amazing journey up the coast), and cross country services which link us to the South West and Scotland. Our home is easily accessible by car from the main routes on the A1 and A19.
Nearest airport
Newcastle International Airport is approximately 40 mins by car
Getting around
Our nearest shop is in the next village about 1.5miles away. You can walk through the fields to get there. A choice of Supermarkets are 3 miles away. You can get there by bus if required.
Ideally you would have a car to enjoy the most of County Durham, Northumberland and North Yorkshire but we are well served by public transport if you did not want to drive during your stay.
