General overview

Being a teacher, I work with a lot of people every day. When I go home, I truly value having time to myself to recharge, and as such, my home has become my sanctuary. It's a place where I can unwind, relax, and enjoy the peace and quiet, while still being connected to everything Malta has to offer. What I love most about my home is its ideal location. Nestled in a central yet quiet area, it offers the perfect balance between tranquillity and accessibility. Despite being away from the hustle and bustle, it’s incredibly easy to reach other parts of Malta, making it a great base for exploring the island. Whether you're looking to visit historical sites, enjoy the beach, or take a day trip to the capital, everything is within easy reach. Another thing that makes my home special is the convenience of having all the essentials nearby. Lidl, other supermarkets, a post office, a greengrocer, take-away spots, and more are all within walking distance. This makes day-to-day living hassle-free, whether you're stocking up on groceries, running errands, or grabbing a quick bite to eat. I’m also passionate about cooking, and my kitchen reflects that. It’s fully equipped with all the utensils and appliances you could need, including a convection cooker, an InstantPot, and various cooking implements. Whether you enjoy simple meals or more elaborate recipes, you’ll find everything you need to cook comfortably during your stay. Comfort is key in my flat. It may be a one-bedroom space, but it’s designed to provide a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The air conditioning keeps the flat cool during the warmer months, and for entertainment, there’s a PlayStation 5 and a cosy living area, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Finally, for the last 14 years, I have been sharing my home with two senior cats, who are a big part of what makes this place feel warm and welcoming. They are calm, friendly, and will happily keep you company if you're an animal lover. My home truly feels like a peaceful retreat while still being connected to everything Malta has to offer.

The space

The apartment is a cosy one-bedroom space located on the second floor of a small, four-apartment block. There are two apartments per floor, and each has access to a roof area, which includes a private washroom and additional roof space for drying clothes or enjoying some fresh air. Inside, you'll find a comfortable living room, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The bathroom, though compact, is fully equipped with a shower, sink, and toilet. The kitchen and dining area are combined, offering everything needed to cook full meals. It’s stocked with essential appliances, including a microwave, convection cooker, and InstantPot, as well as ample storage space with cabinets and a fridge/freezer. The dining table comfortably seats six, making it ideal for meals at home. The bedroom doubles as a study, featuring an L-shaped desk and a gaming chair for added comfort. While my personal PC is off-limits to guests, you are welcome to use the monitor with your own laptop or device. The apartment is equipped with fibre optic internet and Wi-Fi throughout, which makes it easy to stay connected. You’ll also find a smart TV with a guest Netflix account for your entertainment. There’s a small balcony connected to the dining area, primarily reserved for the cats' litter box. Overall, the flat is designed for comfort and convenience, with everything needed for a pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Guest access

There are a few stairs leading to the main entrance of the block, followed by a few more that take you to the staircase or the common area lift. The lift is small but can carry up to four average-build adults comfortably. The apartment is located on the second floor, while the roof area becomes the third floor. Unfortunately, there are no ramps in the building, so it is not wheelchair accessible. Guests will have access to keys for the main entrance, the apartment, and the private washroom on the roof. This allows you to come and go freely without needing to coordinate with anyone. While there is no reserved parking space, there are always parking bays available on the street nearby, making it convenient if you have a car. The apartment is situated in a quiet residential area, so I ask guests to respect the calm environment. You are, of course, welcome to watch TV, play music, etc., but please be mindful that sound can travel easily between apartments.

Notes

The apartment is equipped with fibre optic Wi-Fi, ensuring a fast and reliable internet connection. In the living room, there is a large smart TV with access to a guest Netflix account, as well as YouTube for additional entertainment options. I also have a PlayStation 5 available for use; however, guests will need to log into their own PlayStation account to access it. In addition, you’ll find a collection of dozens of board and card games in the living room, as I’m a big fan of them. Guests are more than welcome to enjoy these during their stay, whether you’re looking for a relaxing night in or a fun game session with friends or family. A very important note is that I share my home with two senior cats, aged 12 and 14. They are friendly and calm, having met many guests over the years. However, I do ask that guests take care of their basic needs during their stay. This includes feeding them, ensuring they have fresh water, and cleaning their litter box. The cats are strictly indoor pets and do not go outside, so it’s important to ensure doors are kept closed for their safety. I’m also more than happy to look after any pets of those with whom I exchange apartments, providing the same care and attention to your pets as I do my own.

Neighbourhood

I live in Hamrun, on the limits of Msida, a central yet peaceful part of Malta. This location is ideal for those who want to explore the island easily, as it offers excellent bus connections to various towns and cities. From Msida, you can quickly access Valletta, Malta’s historic capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you’ll find grand fortifications, palaces, and plenty of history to immerse yourself in. The lively towns of Sliema and St. Julian’s, known for their shopping, restaurants, and vibrant nightlife, are also easily reachable by public transport. You can take a bus to quieter locations such as the ancient city of Mdina, with its charming streets and historical significance, or the coastal towns of Marsaskala and Marsaxlokk, which offer beautiful sea views and traditional Maltese fishing village atmospheres【82†source】【84†source】【85†source】. The Msida bus hub, called "Kullegg," is just a 10-minute leisurely walk from the apartment. This hub connects you to many other parts of the island, making it convenient for day trips or exploring further afield. Within walking distance from my apartment, you’ll find everything you need for day-to-day living. The area boasts several pharmacies, barbers, hairdressers, butchers, ironmongeries, and gyms. There’s also a Lidl supermarket, a greengrocer, a post office, and various take-away spots, ensuring that all your essentials are close at hand. The neighbourhood itself is calm and residential, so you’ll enjoy peace and quiet during your stay, while still being well-connected to the rest of the island. Whether you need to run errands or want to grab a quick bite, Hamrun is a practical and well-connected area that offers a balance of convenience and tranquillity.

Getting to my home

Malta has only one international airport, the Malta International Airport (MLA), which is located in Luqa. My apartment is about (at most) a 15–20 minute drive away by car or taxi, depending on traffic. For guests preferring public transport, there are regular bus services from the airport to Msida or Hamrun. The journey by bus will take a bit longer, with travel times varying depending on the time of day and traffic conditions. Please note that Malta does not have any railway or train services, so buses or taxis are the primary modes of transport for getting around the island.

Nearest airport

Malta has only one airport, which is 7.2km away from the apartment. If there is no traffic, this is about 8 to 10 minutes away by car to and from the apartment.

Getting around

My apartment is conveniently located within walking distance of most essential shops and services. A 15-minute walk in any direction will take you to supermarkets, pharmacies, barbers, hairdressers, butchers, and other daily essentials. You’ll also find bus stops within this walking range, connecting you to various parts of the island, including the Msida bus hub "Kullegg," which is just a 10-minute stroll away. This bus hub serves as a gateway to many other destinations in Malta, making it easy to explore the island without the need for a car.

Jonathan

I’m a 40-year-old secondary school teacher living on my own in a comfortable one-bedroom flat, shared with my two beloved senior cats. They are incredibly friendly, calm, and would be happy to keep you company if you enjoy animals. As a teacher, I have the chance to travel during school holidays, and I’ve enjoyed several home exchanges on platforms like Airbnb. I’m always eager to explore new places and cultures, and I value the opportunity to connect with people through these exchanges. I take great care of my home and would treat yours with the same respect and attention. Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat or an exciting new destination, I’d love to explore the possibility of a home exchange with you!
