We live in a large terraced house in the heart of Brixton, one of the most vibrant, multicultural and iconic areas of London. Brixton is known for its diverse community and excellent restaurants and nightlife, but it's also very family-oriented with great parks and museums nearby. We love the buzz of living in inner London.
The space
Despite its central location, our home is extremely quiet and is a real haven from the busy city on our doorstep.
Our Edwardian house was built in 1913. The front door leads into a light, airy hallway with a small cloakroom. The comfy living room is bright and sunny and is a haven for reading, watching TV and relaxing. We have a smart TV with Netflix, Apple, Amazon and Disney+.
We are lucky to have a very large kitchen extension (thankfully build before we moved in!) with an eating area, a play space for our children and a fully stocked kitchen with oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher. The kitchen has bidfold doors leading into our lovely private garden which has a lawn, a deck area with a table and chairs and mature apple and cherry trees.
Upstairs the master bedroom looks out over our quiet residential street and next to it is our son's room which has a single bed. On that floor we also have a spacious bathroom with a bath and shower, two sinks and a toilet and a study with a desk.
Upstairs we have another double bedroom with a great view of the London skyline. We often watch New Year's Eve fireworks from here. There is another bathroom with toilet and shower.
The house is cool in the summer and has good central heating throughout so it's warm and cosy in winter.

Neighbourhood
We live on a quiet, friendly street right in the middle of Brixton. Brixton market is just a few minutes walk away with its independent shops and restaurants. Our neighbourhood has fantastic transport links and you can be in the centre of the city within half an hour. There is plenty for children to do nearby. We are a 15-minute walk from Brockwell Park with its playground and lido, and in the other direction we are the same distance from Clapham Common. At Brixton Recreation Centre you will find an indoor swimming pool, climbing walls and a huge soft play area.
London has literally hundreds of museums and days out for families. Many of our best museums are free so we often spend days at the Science Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum or The Tate and National Galleries.
Getting to my home
We are a 10-minute walk from Brixton tube which is on the Victoria line. Tubes leave every couple of minutes and as Brixton is the end of the line you always get a seat! Brixton railway station is the same distance with direct trains to Victoria. There are dozens of buses a few moments walk from the house.
Nearest airport
We are around an hour from Heathrow and Gatwick airports by public transport. Heathrow is 18 miles away and Gatwick is 25 miles away. To the north of the city, Luton and Stansted airports are also easily accessible by public transport.
Getting around
We are right in the heart of everything! There is a major supermarket round the corner and you are no more than a 10-minute walk from tubes and buses. In Brixton you can get virtually any kind of food you can think of!

We are a family of four: two adults, a 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy. As inner London residents, we are all lovers of city breaks and hope to discover new cities we've never visited before through swapping our home. We are lucky to have a large, quiet house in a very central location and we'd love to share it with anyone looking for a base in London.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
