Our home is nestled on 5 acres of paradise in Far North Queensland, on the Atherton Tablelands.
We crafted our haven from the ground up, designing and implementing a whole system design for water harvesting, layout for fruit trees, gardens etc...
We also designed and co-built our special home, utilising mainly recycled timbers as features after salvaging them from a torn-down Queenslander in Cairns. It has an open plan lounge/dining/kitchen with a front deck overlooking the 200m of river frontage we are lucky to have. The house has been built using zero toxic materials including paints, varnishes and alike.
The home is warm and cozy during winter, we have a small pot belly stove, as well as being cool in the hot/humid far north summers, due to the passive solar design and orientation of the house, allowing us to capture the cool valley breezes.
In addition to native vegetation areas, we have an avocado orchard, fruit trees, a vegetable garden site right outside our kitchen, dams, and a natural swimming pool right by our deck, which is used almost every day during summer. Over the past 15 years, we've had a menagerie of animals, including cows, goats, ducks, geese, chickens, and even pigs. We currently don't have any farm animals.
We love; The peace and tranquility of living in the bush, the convenience of being close enough to town but still far enough away, the warm comfortable climate (Walkamin is know to be in the top 10 best climates of the world), the view of the river from our front deck, and watching the river flow by, living within such a natural environment surrounded by trees, birds and native wildlife, living on a river, which we can swim in, go fishing and camping on, but still be close to home.

Our family is Mum (Georgie), Dad (Kym), and our 14-year-old tennis enthusiast Dylan and beloved dog, Zoe (3 years old). Our oldest son Jack (18 years old), has now moved out and resides in Melbourne, studying at University.
Our son Dylan wishes to pursue a career in professional tennis, and his coach who used to coach Pat Rafter, trains out of Ballinger Park Tennis Courts.
The opportunities to improve are far greater than up here in FNQ, so we'd love to find a suitable house swap with someone in the region, who is after a tree-change and caring for our home on 5-acres, right on the river.
