General overview

Contemporary townhouse arranged over 4 floors. Located in a small, safe cul-de-sac community, with a newly-renovated shared indoor swimming pool & sauna and extensive communal gardens. Eight-minutes walk from the stylish shopping and dining in the lovely & leafy Wimbledon Village. Ten-minutes walk from thousands of wild acres of Wimbledon Common. Yet just half an hour from the very centre of London. Realising that we had found the perfect location for our family, we had the house extensively remodelled by an architect, to create a stylish yet practical family home so that we could enjoy it for years to come.

The space

The top floor is devoted to the master bedroom suite, consisting of bedroom with queen sized bed; walk in closet; separate bath & shower rooms and fronted by a large, furnished roof terrace with BBQ and outdoor fireplace from where you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the London skyline. The next floor down is for the "children". Saskia`s room overlooks the garden at the back. it has a double bed and an ensuite bathroom, with bath and overhead shower. Zachary`s room overlooks the (very quiet) street at the front and also has a double bed. Zachary`s bathroom is not ensuite, but just across the hallway. It has a very large walk in shower, but no bath. Also on this floor is a study, with a large sofa. Both of these bathrooms were newly installed in 2017. Below this - at garden level - is the open plan living space with sitting area opening into a kitchen diner. The kitchen was newly installed in 2017 and is really well equipped. At the rear is a private and sheltered courtyard garden, with dining furniture and a BBQ. The bottom floor is an informal family den with a 50 inch TV,, Play Station & Wii. Also down here is the store and utility area with laundry appliances and second fridge freezer. This floor is a street level and opens onto a private drive with ample parking. The street to the front is a cul-de-sac, with no through traffic, in which the kids can play safe with their friends and neighbours. To the rear and all around are communal gardens and in the gardens is a newly renovated community indoor swimming pool & sauna. Also in the garden is a children`s play area with slides, swings and wendy houses.

Neighbourhood

Wimbledon Village is a fashionable and exclusive suburb, just 18 minutes by overground train from the very centre of London. It is home to a mix of long established local families, city professionals and a diverse mix of international financiers and business people, most with young families. Wimbledon Village is most famous famous for the tennis. The All England Lawn Tennis Club & Museum is a 4-minute walk from our home and we regularly rent our home out to top seeded players during the tournament. It is also famous for the Wombles of Wimbledon Common - But I have lived here more than 40 years and never seen one yet. The traditional village high street is an 8-minute walk from our front door: here you can find a great mix of designer boutiques such as Joseph and Max Mara together with more traditional (and a lot cheaper!) village shops, such as a butcher, baker and fishmonger. All in all it offers a rather upmarket version of a traditional English High Street, with a great mix of boutiques; local shops for local people; pubs; bars and restaurants with young local families out for a stroll and horses trotting by. The Village is also a great meeting place that people travel to from miles around for it`s fantastic choice of traditional English pubs; trendy bars; coffee shops and restaurants offering cuisine from around the World. At the last count, there were no less than 22 places to eat and drink. Just beyond Wimbledon Village High Street - 12-minutes walk from our home - is the wild and wonderful Wimbledon Common, with 12,000 acres of heath land and ponds. Wimbledon Common forms the nearest countryside to London, which is just 8 miles away. To complete the rural scene, there is even a windmill. The Common is great for walks and picnics, the more active can go horse riding, cycling or play golf. One of our nearest neighbours is the All England Lawn Tennis Club - If you like tennis, you are in for a treat! Transport links from our home are fantastic: There are 3 tubes and a mainline station in walking distance and the centre of town is easily and quickly reached by either overground or tube. We are also happy to car swap. Within a maximum two hour drive, you could be at Windsor Castle, Oxford, Cambridge, Kew Gardens, Stratford-upon-Avon, Brighton, Chartwell, Stonehege and Bath. You are welcome to borrow our bikes too. Paris is just over two hours away on the Eurostar - and can be done easily as a day trip. - Tennis! - Buzzy restaurants: The Ivy - Cool bars: Hemingways - Cozy cafés: Paul - Retail therapy: Boutiques on Village High Street - Bit of culture: Hampton Court - Walks in the park: Wimbledon Common - Spot of exercise: Wimbledon Common - Day tripping: London!
