General overview
We want to exchange our apartment of 80m2 on the first floor of our house.
The house is located in the center of Amsterdam on one of the most desirable and exclusive locations, the Buiksloterdijk.
It has it all, close to the historic center (10-15 minutes by bike or Uber) and yet it is a very quiet location situated opposite the Noorderpark.
It takes only 5 minutes by Uber or 10 minutes by bike, to get to the free ferry behind Central Station. The ferry runs 24/7 every 5 minutes.
In 2 minutes you get accross the river and in the middle of the Canal District.
Ofcourse you can also get there by car or public transport. Either way takes about 15 minutes.
A very convenient metro (station Noorderpark) gets you in 2 minutes to Central Station, 3 minutes to Dam Square and in 6 minutes to the Rijksmuseum.
It is an oasis of peace here and in the morning you can hear the birds singing.
Cycling routes through rural North Holland start at the house. The trendy NDSM district is around the corner. The best restaurants of Amsterdam are located here.
The apartment is newly renovated and has its own central heating, bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, with dishwasher. It has a washing machine and dryer.
The Buiksloterdijk, where the house is located, is a prime location in Amsterdam, 15 minutes from Dam Square.
The apartment consists of a living room, two bedrooms with balconies, a bathroom, and a kitchenette and is completely private.
-
You have your own private entrance, then you go up a short staircase to your own apartment.
You will stay in a historic place in Amsterdam that dates back to the 17th century. You have an unobstructed view at the front and back.
Staying in our house is being close to the buzzing scene of Amsterdam and yet feel like you are in rural Holland.
That is why this location is one of the most sought after locations in Amsterdam. There is nothing better than coming home to this quiet and beautiful spot after a tiring day of sight seeing or shopping in the city.
Amsterdam North is the trendy neighbourhood of Amsterdam. It is 10-15 minutes from Central Station and Dam Square. You will have an unforgettable time here.
North Amsterdam has become the trendiest part of Amsterdam in the past 20 years. Here you find a lot of restaurants and bars on the riverside. Especially the NDSM area is worth visiting. It is only 10 mins from the house by bike or Uber.
A former shipyard located on the banks of the River IJ in Amsterdam Noord, NDSM Wharf has blossomed into an enormous cultural hot spot in recent years with a vibrant artist community and an ever-expanding variety of bars and restaurants. With grounds exceeding the size of ten football pitches, the area hosts multi-disciplinary festivals, performances, exhibitions, dance parties and a wide range of other events in unique, post-industrial surroundings.
Transformed from an industrial shipyard to a vibrant social space: between the shipping containers and graffiti-decorated hangars, you'll find urban art, environmentally conscious restaurants and spectacular waterfront cafes to chill out.
In short, for curious city explorers who are looking for a different image of Amsterdam than the well-known canals and tulips, the NDSM shipyard is a great place to experience. The yard is easy to reach: there are two free ferries directly to the NDSM yard that are accessible to pedestrians and (moped) cyclists.
The Buiksloterdijk, where the house is located, used to be the place where the Dutch East India Company captains retired. The houses where called 'the captains heaven'. The water of the IJ-river that runs through Amsterdam used to come right to the house.
The view is stunning, overlooking the North Holland Canal and the Noorderpark.
Known cycling and walking routes through rural North and Waterland go directly past our house.
In front of the house (50m) is the Noorderpark with its brand new indoor/outdoor swimming pool. Voted most beautiful pool in Europe.
Parking is free at 300m. In front of the house it is only €8,50 per DAY. (In the city €6-8 per hour)
The bus stop to Amsterdam Central is a few minutes walking away. Busses run every 5 minutes. The bus takes 2 minutes to get to the metro station NOORDERPARK. There you change to the metro line 52, which gets you in 2 minutes to the Central Station, in 4 minutes to Dam Square and in 6 minutes to the Rijksmuseum.
By car you drive through the IJ tunnel in 5 minutes to reach the center of the town (Waterlooplein) with ample parking garages.
By bike just follow the cycle path in front of our house to the end and you are at the FREE ferry in 10 minutes. The ferry runs every 5/10 minutes day and night. The trip across takes 2 minutes. On the other side you are at the Central Station, which is in the heart of the city.
You could also walk to the ferry. It is a beautiful stroll along the NH canal and through the Noorderpark. Walking distance just 25 minutes.
Our preferred way of getting to the city, if you are not up to bike riding, is getting an Uber. It gets you in 5 minutes to the free ferry behind central station.
The price is about the same as 2 bus tickets.
Ferry´s run day and night every 5 minutes. The trip across is 2 minutes. On the other side you are in the heart of Amsterdam.
Either way from the house you will be in the city center in less then 15 minutes.
Amsterdam North is the new buzzing district for art, film and restaurants, There are many specialty restaurants, such as Next, Barracuda, Helling 7, de Klaproos, Café Modern, Il Pecorino, Plekk, Loetje or Hotel de Goudfazant and many, many others.
A lot of these restaurants are located in old factory buildings or former shipyards and overlook the IJ river.
Just around the corner of our house are 2 good and inexpensive restaurants a Turkish, Turquoise Meating, and a Thai, Pasoek.
A small supermarket is at 200m.
You have access to the entire top (first) floor of our dike house. In the front is the spacious living room (30m2, 100ft2) with lovely views over the Noordhollandsch Canal.
There are two separate bedrooms with kingsize beds of 1.80 m x 2.00 m. One bed can be separated into two single beds.
At the rear is a large sunny terrace. This is the only place where you are allowed to smoke. The sun gets there already early in the morning. Ideal if you want to have breakfast outside.
There is a well-equipped kitchenette with a cooker, microwave or oven, dishwasher, nespresso machine and all other necessary equipment.
There is also a large bathroom with bath and separate shower.
The apartment has free fast wi-fi and a flat screen 42' television with digital cable reception.

A taxi from Schiphol Airport to us costs about €60. With Uber around €40.
Travel time about 20 minutes.
Alternatively from Schiphol Airport you can take a train to Amsterdam Central Station.
The train station is in the airport, just follow the signs. The costs for a one way ticket are €4 per person.
With luggage, the easiest way would be to take a taxi from Amsterdam Central Station to our house: Buiksloterdijk 296, Amsterdam-Noord.
It costs about €20- €25. With Uber €12-15. The trip takes 5-7 minutes only.
OUR RECOMMENDATION:
Cheaper is to first take the ferry named: BUIKSLOTERWEG at the north side of the Central Station. Follow the ferry signs.
The ferry is FREE and runs 24/7 every 5 minutes.
Then on the other side of the river (it takes 2 minutes), get an Uber.
It is a 5-7 minutes ride to the house. Costs are around €8.
METRO from Central Station
Alternatively -and the standard way of traveling- is to take the brand new metro line 52 at the Central Station. Direction: NOORD (North).
Get off the first stop: NOORDERPARK. Travel time 2 minutes.
Then, either walk north along the left side of the canal (keep the canal to your right) till the end of the foot/bicycle path. You are at the house. This walk takes 15 minutes.
OR get bus 34 at the metro station. Cross the main road as you leave the station to get to the bus stop. You can use the metro tickets for the bus.
Once on 34 get off at the 2nd stop SNEEUWBALSTRAAT. Travel time 2 minutes. Walk this street till the end (400m, 5 minutes) and you are at the house.
SNEEUWBALSTRAAT is the first street on the right as you leave the bus. Further down the road it is called SNEEUWBALWEG.
You can use your bank card or credit card to enter the bus, metro or tram. Alternatively you can buy bus, tram and metro tickets in the machines at the stations. You cannot buy tickets on the bus with the driver. Tickets are valid for 1 hour on all metro, tram and bus lines.
Don't forget to check in and check out with your card or ticket. Hold it against the terminal at the entrance and exit.
Tickets for multiple days can be purchased in the ticket booth in front of the middle entrance of the Central Station.
Going to the city from the house, take an Uber to the ferry (address: Tolhuistuin, IJpromenade 2) to get to Central Station.
