General Overview
Our home is located in the beautiful and family-friendly town of Zaltbommel, in the heart of the Netherlands. The house has three levels, five bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, and a dedicated home office. Perfect for families or remote workers.
We are a Dutch-Icelandic family with three children, and our home is warm, spacious, and well-equipped for both adults and kids.
The Space
Our home is bright, cozy, and spread over three floors:
On the ground floor, there is an open-concept kitchen and living room, a guest toilet, and access to our garage and private garden with BBQ.
The second floor features four bedrooms and a main bathroom with both a shower and bathtub.
The third floor includes a guest room, home office, laundry room, and a spacious rooftop terrace for enjoying your morning coffee or evening sun. Perfect for hospitality exchange.
The sleeping setup includes two king-size beds, a full-size bed (140x200), a children’s room with a crib, and a kids’ room with a single bed and pull-out guest bed. The home is ideal for families, with toys, books, games, and child-friendly amenities available.
The house is located in Spelwaard, a calm and green neighborhood with friendly neighbors. Directly across the street is a public park with a great playground and even a small petting zoo.

Guests will have full access to our entire home during their stay. This includes:
All five bedrooms and the home office (which can also serve as an extra sleeping space)

The rooftop terrace with seating – perfect for morning coffee or sunset evenings

Plenty of toys, books, and games for children
Wi-Fi and high-speed internet, suitable for remote work or streaming

We also have a 7-seater family car, which may be available for use if we are flying to the exchange destination. We’re happy to discuss this option with you.
Please note: Like many Dutch homes, the stairs are steep and there are no stair gates, but there is a door on the ground floor that can be closed to restrict access for small children.
Notes
We love travelling as a family and are always happy to connect with like-minded people. Our children are used to meeting new guests and we’re always excited to hear about where you're from.
We will prepare a welcome guide with practical tips, local favorites, house instructions, and emergency contacts.
We're always available for questions before and during your stay.
Although our cat will most likely not be in the house during your stay, please note that a cat lives here in case anyone has severe allergies.
We also ask that guests treat our home with the same care and respect as they would expect in return — thank you! 💛

Steinunn
We are a Dutch-Icelandic family of five living in Zaltbommel, the Netherlands, with three children (ages 14, 9, and 2). I, Steinunn, am a trained teacher, but I currently organize educational trips for teachers from Iceland to the Netherlands. I also offer workshops and courses on sustainability, which is something I care deeply about.
My husband, Dennis, works in the Port of Rotterdam where he guides ships safely through the harbor. He’s also an enthusiastic cyclist, whether it’s road cycling, gravel biking, or just exploring new places on two wheels, Dennis is always up for a ride.
We’ve been living in the Netherlands for two years and plan to stay for three more before returning to Iceland. In the meantime, we’d love to explore Europe through home exchange, especially during school holidays and long weekends (as we’re bound to the Dutch school calendar).
Our home is spacious, warm, and family-friendly, located right across from a park with a playground and a petting zoo. We love sharing our space with others and treat every exchange with care, respect, and open hearts.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
