General overview
Nestled in a serene neighbourhood, my humble yet cosy 2-bedroom apartment offers a peaceful retreat just two short train stops away from the enchanting historical centre of Sintra. You’ll find yourself a mere 1-minute walk from the train station, which conveniently connects you to Lisbon’s vibrant downtown in just 35 minutes. Sit back and enjoy the scenic journey as you glide into the heart of the city.
The space
The apartment features two spacious bedrooms, a full bathroom with a shower and hot water, and a well-equipped kitchen with all the modern appliances you might need, including a washing machine and tumble dryer. Stay connected with high-speed WiFi and unwind with a 55-inch Google-powered smart TV that comes loaded with all your favourite apps and global channels. The décor is minimal and modern, enhanced by plenty of natural light and thriving houseplants.
Step out onto one of the two balconies, either in the living room or the master bedroom, and take in the peaceful surroundings.
To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible, all beddings, toiletries, and kitchenware are provided, and you may even find some pantry supplies to get you started.
Guest access
Situated on the second floor of a low-rise building, the apartment is easily accessible with just a short flight of stairs.
Notes
RECENTLY UPDATED NOTES 🙂
• When in Lisbon, I stay alone in this apartment, and as a very neat, clean, and hygienic person, I ensure that everything is well-maintained for a comfortable stay. Rest assured, I would uphold the same standards in your home if we agree to swap.
• As someone who's half Asian and half Asian, I strictly practice a 'no-shoes-inside' policy. However, you’ll find shoe shelving units by the entrance, along with some comfy (and likely fluffy) slippers for your convenience.
• My apartment doesn’t have a dishwasher, as I rarely need one when I’m on my own. I hope this won’t be a deal breaker.
• I have a friendly (orange!) cat, and it’s entirely up to you whether you’d like him to stay during your visit. If you like (playful) cats though, he's a gem.
• I kindly request a housekeeping fee of €100 for each home exchange arrangement unless you can guarantee that the property will be left in the same condition as upon your arrival. As my property is also listed on Airbnb, I strive to maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and overall quality to ensure a comfortable and pleasant environment for all guests—whether Airbnb or home exchange partners.

Getting to my home
There are several ways to get to my place from the Lisbon international airport. You can either book a ride via Uber or Bolt.
You may also hop on a metro from the airport and then switch to a direct train ride to Sintra. I will send you complete instructions on how to do this if you inform me ahead of time that you would prefer to explore Lisbon via public transportation. I can also lend you my monthly transport pass that will allow you to travel via any of the trains, metro, buses, trams, etc. within the Lisbon metropolitan. I’d be happy to top this up for you so you need not spend anything to get around! 🙂
Nearest airport
LIS airport (Humberto Delgado Airport), is 25 kilometres away from my place. During off-peak hours, a car ride via Uber/Bolt would take 30 minutes max to or from the airport. Rush hour rides would take up to 45 minutes maximum. That said, Uber and Bolt rates in Portugal are probably the lowest in the EU. 😉
Getting around
My apartment is a mere 1-minute walk from the train station, which conveniently connects you to Lisbon’s vibrant downtown in just 35 minutes. If you fancy sticking to Sintra, then even better, as you will already be in it. I personally find Sintra to be the most beautiful part of the entire Lisbon Metropolitan region, and potentially one of the most charming historical sites in all of Portugal.

We had the pleasure of hosting Zee through the Home Exchange program, and she was a wonderful guest. She communicated clearly and respectfully before and during her stay, which made the process smooth and enjoyable.
Our home was treated with care.
Thank you Zee,
Best regards,
It was a pleasure to provide hospitality in our home for Zee when she was passing through Calgary. Zee was such delightful company. A pity it was so short!
Thanks Zee for being such a great guest. - we look forward to coming to Portugal!
Thank you so much, Carole, for your kind words! The pleasure was truly mine. As long as your home remains available to welcome me, I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else should I have the opportunity to return to Calgary (hopefully in the near future!).
I look forward to hosting you and Rick in my home as soon as you're ready to take that trip to Portugal! :)
Mary's home truly set the tone for my trip to Houston. From the moment I arrived, it immediately felt peaceful, familiar, and comfortable. Mary was incredibly generous and thoughtful, giving me a thorough pre-check-in tour to help me get acquainted with the space before settling in.
The location of her home is very convenient, with stores within walking distance that cover all your basic needs. Considering how essential having a car is in Houston, this added extra value to the stay. She also has a wonderful and insightful collection of books, which was a perfect touch during my stay, for several reasons including the fact that it was my first time in the US.
I highly recommend reaching out to Mary if you’re visiting Houston and looking for a cozy, homey experience through a home exchange. It was a great stay with a wonderful host, and I would love to return in the future!
(Thank you so much, Mary!)
Theresa's home was immaculate when I arrived! Communication before and during my stay was prompt, clear, and consistent from the start. Everything you’d expect from a high-quality hotel—let alone a home exchange—was thoughtfully provided and well-presented. The location is very close to one of Houston’s best parks (Memorial Park) and the vibrant Rice Village retail district. That said, having a car is highly recommended, as public transportation in the area is neither common nor easily accessible. The space is honestly ideal for families, with more than enough room to accommodate a relatively big one comfortably. It was still a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend it to any other PLU member who's looking to visit Houston. ;)
Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen medical emergency upon my arrival in Houston, I couldn’t stay at their home on the agreed date. However, I was fortunate enough to meet Kevin and Oksana on another day, and I immediately regretted missing the chance to stay at their beautiful home.
They are a wonderful couple who share a passion for some of the things I value—tasteful home décor, a love for cats, high standards of tidiness and cleanliness, and thoughtful opinions we discovered through delightful conversations during a lovely little tea party.
I hope to stay at their place someday in the future! :)
Carole and Rick's hospitality exceeded all expectations. Not only is their home beautiful and conveniently located—close to Calgary International Airport, public transportation, and downtown Calgary—but they also went above and beyond in their kindness. They offered to pick me up from the airport (even bringing a coat to help me brave the Calgarian winter), treated me to a delicious dinner, and dropped me off at the airport the next day.
This experience is yet another testament to how well PLU fosters secure and unique experiences for its members—ones we’d otherwise pay a premium for.
Thank you so much, Carole and Rick! My home in Sintra is ready to welcome you whenever you decide to visit Portugal. And a special thanks for the insightful dinner conversations and the amazing tomato soup recipe—so many wins from one experience! :)
Thanks Zee. It was such a pleasure to host you. You were such an easy guest. Drop by any time! And hopefully we will get to Portugal next year.
Tatiana and Jason were the best surprise I’ve had the pleasure of encountering in Portugal so far! They responded to, and approved my hosting request incredibly quickly, even if I reached out within very short notice. The room they offered to me was neat, clean, and equipped with everything I needed for remote work, including access to a private bathroom.
Their location in Alcântara was also ideal—away from the more congested areas but still very close to all the conveniences you'd need. But honestly, the highlight was meeting them. Even though I only stayed for one night, we had some of the best conversations I’ve had in Portugal. They made me feel welcome right from the start, which was especially meaningful as it was my first time staying with a PLU exchange partner.
I didn’t expect to come away with new friends after such a short stay, but it was refreshing to connect with fellow non-locals who share so many similar perspectives and interests. There's nothing quite like meeting people with whom connecting feels completely natural.
I highly recommend them as hosts or exchange partners to anyone considering it! 🙂

Super clean, super honest, and always on the move. ✈️
A typical millennial who works in the ad industry and travels as frequently as funds allow. Moreover, I'm a single mum and sole provider for two kids, who unfortunately aren’t based with me in Portugal (but working on that!).
I’m also a workaholic who spends most of my time indoors, as my job allows me to work remotely from anywhere, despite having an office in downtown Lisbon. I split my time between Lisbon and Paris, so I’m often able to offer my place for swaps. When I’m not in Europe, I’m usually in Asia, connecting with my ethnic roots and spending time with my kids in Southeast Asia, where I’m originally from, or in the Middle East, where I was born, raised, and spent over 30 years of my life.
I’m an introvert with a good nature, a reasonable head on my shoulders, and a sense of humour. I don’t take myself too seriously and would be thrilled to meet new friends through this platform!
