Neighbourhood
Altafulla is home to two medieval castles — one on the beach past the Gaià River, and one in the old town visible from our apartment — as well as many restaurants and cafes. Every year, Altafulla holds many festivals: gourmet, castells (Catalonia's famous human towers), music, and even one for witches!
The nearby Gaià River is part of a wildlife reserve -- one of only two in Spain -- where migrating birds rest while on their way from Europe to Africa. Altafulla is part of a network of cycling and hiking trails from which you can explore more castles and traditional villages.
Getting around
The train from Barcelona stops in Altafulla and takes only an hour. The station is a 10-minute walk from the apartment, making trips into Barcelona easy and convenient. There is also an excellent bus system for trips into nearby Tarragona and Reus Airport (which operates mainly in the summer).
