General overview

What is special about my home, I would say the location, the views and walking proximity to the Southern Ocean, the abundance of birds, visiting koalas, echidnas, etc.. My indoor plants and my Aboriginal paintings. My reading area in my garden, my cozy couch around the fire and the four bedrooms I can offer to my family and friend when they visit. It is the relaxing and harmony I feel in my house that always strikes me when I return home when I have been away.

The space

It is a double storey house, with four bedrooms, three bathroom, two living areas, a small, workable kitchen with all the convenience. The design is open plan, with lots of windows and light. It is a private space amongst trees and nature and is 8 minutes away from shops and the hassles and the bustle of Apollo Bay.

Guest access

It is a two storey house and access is through a key with a specific code. A reminder that the front door is heavy and you need to PUSH and PULL it, no need to turn any knobs.

Notes

Skenes Creek and all of the Great Ocean Road requires that you have your own vehicle. There is no public transport to speak of..

Neighbourhood

Our house is a block away from the famous Great Ocean Road, and five minutes walk to the Southern Ocean It is located in a quiet area, surrounded by eucalyptus and other native trees. The advantageous location of Skenes Creek is its location to the proximity to numerous tourist attractions. On the one side you have Wye River Hotel, 20 minutes away and which sits upon the hill above Wye River's idyllic beach and offers fantastic views year around with a great menu. Further down, is Lorne, renowned for its white sand beaches and a buzzing arts community, with waterfalls, giant ferns and ancient forest. Anglesea, an hour away from Skenes Creek is one of the many attractive seaside resort towns along the Great Ocean Road. On the opposite side of Skenes Creek and 8 minutes away by car is Apollo Bay. Apollo Bay is where one can find a number of restaurants and a shopping centre, including Prickly Moses a Brewery and distillery where you can enjoy meals too. There is an Arts Inc. Ten minutes away is Wildlife Wonders which is the newest conservation focused wildlife experience. There, you can enjoy a 75 minute guided walk through the Otway's bushland, observing the wildlife and enjoy a meal at the Emu Cafe and later browse the shop for books and gifts. Further along is The Cape Otway Lightstation seating 90 metres above the pristine ocean of Bass Strait built in 1848 is a must to see, it is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia, and its history recounts how lives were lost along this shipwreck coast. Of the many highlights, the Twelve Apostles is probably the best known of these spectacular 45 m tall limestone pillars that were once connected to the mainland cliffs. You can also enjoy a helicopter flight over the 12 Apostles and depending on the length of your flight you can see the entire Shipwreck Coast all the way to Cape Otway. There are many more sights to enjoy and the best way to explore the area is to visit the Information desk in Apollo Bay.

ANASTASIA

I live alone in Skenes Creek, Victoria on the Great Ocean Road and have decided to embark on traveling but I am somewhat reticent because of the high cost of accommodation. I am keen to try people like us and hope that members would enjoy and appreciate the beauty and surrounds of my house with the view of the Ocean and the abundant birds and nature and show a willingness to exchange.
