People Like Us Local Guide
Meet for a drink or coffee. Offer advice on local area.
We were very lucky to find Viola's house to use as a base for a week away which included a wedding in Derry. We decided to arrive a day early to facilitate the exchange of keys and thoroughly enjoyed meeting Viola and Sean. They were very kind and let us accommodate friends who were attending the same wedding. There was plenty of room for everyone, as the house used to be a B&B, so also very well equipped. All the rooms were big and comfortable, some with views over Lough Swilly. Looking after Marge the cat was easy as he has his own room outside and was very friendly. Buncrana is less than 10 min by car and has all the facilities you would need. The Railway Inn is on your doorstep and offers great food. Don't assume you'll find a table without booking, as it is very popular with the locals. Lovely beach walks. The Inishowen peninsula is really beautiful. We particularly enjoyed a trip to the most northern point (and pub) in Ireland, including a stop in the Doagh Famine Village. Less than half an hour's drive takes you to Derry, with good parking options to visit the walled city and other points of historical interest, as well as the many pubs and restaurants. A very successful exchange.
I would fully recommend Viola and Sean as guests. Communications were very easy and by the time we met they felt like friends. They took good care of our place. We decided not to clean each other's homes on departure by mutual agreement, as we both had cleaners, which made the last day so much more relaxing. We hope we’ll meet again!
This was our first exchange and Ana made it so easy and straightforward right from our first communication. We were so lucky to have Ana and Colin as our first partners to ease us into PLU. It was really great to be able to meet them on their first night in ours. They even offered to drive us to the airport the next morning. Their apartment is the perfect base to explore Edinburgh with the tram just 100 metres from their front door. The apartment is very spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean with every comfort of home you could expect. It's so quiet you wouldn't know you were in a city until you look out at the lovely views. The beds are super comfortable and the office workspace was ideal with an extra screen I could plug into for work and comfortable office chair. Lovely welcome gifts were waiting on our arrival and the guide book was super helpful. Ana and Colin are avid readers and the variety of books in the apartment were a constant source of entertainment. Leith is a very bohemian area with great cafes pubs and restaurants right on your doorstep. I started to walk into the city one afternoon but never got there because
all the antique and vintage shops along the way calling me in. Edinburgh city is beautiful with an architectural wonder around every corner. We had the most fabulous week thanks to Ana and Colin
Ana and Colin left our home in perfect condition. We wouldn't know they had stayed. They looked after our cat Madge who was super relaxed when we arrived home. It was lovely to meet them in person on the first night of the exchange which really helped us on our first exchange. It was just a pity we hadn't more time to spend together. I really hope we get to meet Ana and Colin again and they will be welcome visitors as friends any time they want to visit Donegal

Viola
We are an active retired couple. We travel without pets but anyone exchanging with us will need to look after our outdoor cat and water the plants if it's Summer. Looking to be close to golf courses and beach. Our home on the Wild Atlantic Way is on the beach in Donegal.
