Neighbourhood

Bargara is the southernmost gateway to the the Great Barrier Reef. Spectacular shore diving and snorkelling, world-class dive facilities and easy access to the unique coral cay islands of Lady Musgrave and Lady Elliot is an exceptional experience. Bargara and surrounds have many other attractions such as Lavender farm, Strawberry farm, Macadamia farm, local (fruit) wineries, Elliot Heads, Burnett river and more. The weather is similar to Hawaii weather and you can enjoy swimming at patrolled beaches, the lagoon or the safety of the rockpool known as "The Basin". In the right seasons you can expect to see whales, doplins, turtles nesting & hatching and numerous other sealife. A twenty minute drive away you will find the Monrepo turtle rookery which do tours and amazing work in turtle conservation & education. During the summer, witness the remarkable sight of turtles laying eggs, and in the later season, marvel at hatchlings making their journey to the ocean on Kelly's Beach. In winter, catch a glimpse of whales playing in the water as part of their migration path. Whether you seek a truly relaxing beach holiday or a romantic couples' getaway, our "Happy Place" is the perfect escape. Bargara is a smaller coastal town and the nearest regional town is Bundaberg which has all essential facilities and services including a public and 2 private hospitals.
