Neighbourhood
Semi-private street in a quiet area, surrounded by nature. Nice view of the valley.
The village and its surroundings
Gesves is called "the country of the horse", because of his stud farm but also of his Provincial School of Breeding and Riding. Many rides are located in our village, including one across the street.
The Gesves entity is concentrated around the Samson valley and is called the "little Namur Switzerland" because of its high proportion of second homes. Four of the five villages in the entity own a castle.
Gesves has a major archaeological site: the Caves of Goyet which were discovered in 1867 and classified since 1976. The entity of Mozet, with the medieval paces, received the label "Most beautiful village of Wallonia" (http: // www. beauxvillages.be/les-villages/mozet.htm?lng=fr).
The forest of Gesves are a few hundred meters from the house. Our family particularly appreciates the "sentiers de l'art" (http://sentiersdart.be/sentiers-dart-gesves-et-ohey) where about twenty art pieces can be visited. Walks in the form of games for 4-12 years are also available nearby (http://mesaventures.be/).
Cheeses, charcuterie, organic and local fruits and vegetables, beers and other specialties, welcome to the Valley of Flavors. For example, a few kilometers from the house you will find the famous Samson cheese factory (http://www.fromageriedusamson.com/). A little further you will find the Warnant snail farm offering tours (http://www.escargotiere.be/). Note that many local products are offered by village shops.
In Belgium, nothing is ever far away. Our country has an extensive and free roads network.
In direct proximity you can discover the Belgian Ardennes (https://www.visitardenne.com/fr).
About 20 minutes away is Namur, capital of the Walloon region. From the top of the Citadel to the banks of the Sambre, Namur has many landscapes to offer you. Walking around Namur is like strolling through the pedestrian walkway and its shops without hurrying, sip a beer in the vegetable market square or climb to the top of the citadel. From the top of this spur, protected from one of the largest fortresses in Europe, the view of the city is incomparable.
Dinant is a Belgian town located about 20 minutes, on the banks of the Meuse, at the foot of steep cliffs. Perched on an outcrop above the city, the centennial fortified citadel now houses a museum with panoramic views. Below is the Gothic collegiate Notre-Dame de Dinant. Not far from there, at the birthplace of the inventor of saxophone Adolphe Sax, the House of Mr. Sax offers interactive exhibitions on the development of the instrument.
At about 25 minutes you will discover Durbuy. The "smallest city in the world," they say. A stronghold of tourism in Wallonia, Durbuy offers a historic heart with charming charm and a thousand and one leisure ideas.
Many activities and attractions are waiting for you: the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps (about 1 hour of road), the thermal baths of Spa (1h) and Chaudfontaine (50 minutes), the caves of Han (30 minutes), the museum of the war in Bastogne (45 minutes), the abbeys of Mardedsous and Orval, the castle of Bouillon, descent of the Lesse by kayak to name a few.
Brussels and its main square are about 80 km away. You can also reach our capital by train from Namur (direct line). Do not leave without saying hello to our little national icon, the famous Manneken Pis. Will you be able to find its less famous female counterparts (Jeanneke-Pis) and canines (Zinneke-Pis) in the city?
On the other side of the linguistic border, we invite you to discover Bruges and Ghent, at 185 and 145 km respectively (also accessible by train from Namur). Take a short break from Bruges and discover the Belgian coast (Ostend is 24 km from Bruges as an example).
In our small country, neighbors are never far away. Join France, Germany, Holland or Luxembourg in less than an hour.
Getting around
Few public transport. A car is necessary.
The center of the village and its shops (bakery, butcher, minimarket, florist, market gardener, bookstore, pizzeria) are located about 1.5 km.
The nearby village of Ohey, about 5km away, has all the necessary amenities: gas pump, several supermarkets, DIY store, nursery, etc.
Airports:
Charleroi (Southern Brussels): 40 minutes
Zaventem (Brussels): 1h
Bierset (Liège): 40 minutes
Railway stations:
Namur: 20 minutes (direct line with Zaventem airport)
Courriers: 10 minutes
Health and wellbeing:
A very complete medical home is located in the center of the village (GPs, nurses, midwives, psychologists, physiotherapists, etc.).
On weekends and at night, a general medical center is available within 20km.
Several hospitals are located around, in the cities of Dinant, Godinnes and Namur in particular.

I am the happy solo mum of Apolline and Eliott (8 yo and 6 yo). My mum is a usual member of our traveling team. We live with our cat Muscat (who keeps the house during our travels) in the charming village of Gesves, on the heights of Namur in Belgium.
I am a biostatistician and a ballet lover. I was an exchange student in Western Australia a "few" years ago. I speak French and English.
Through the exchange of homes our gamily hopes to discover new outside of the box destinations, and meet great people.
We offer in exchange our large house in the Condroz in Belgium.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
