I've got an upstairs/downstairs house. It's open plan downstairs with a small garden that leads to a big communal garden. I know my neighbours and my landlord, a lovely Balinese man, lives next door. I love the light in this house and the kitchen is central to everything. My housekeeper and I have a baking business so the smells are heavenly. I have a new gym next door, so I have no excuses, it's got a pool, sauna and ice bath and it's air-conditioned. My house has sliding doors so it can be enclosed, and 3.5 air-conditioned bedrooms. The upstairs Master bedroom is huge with an ensuite bathroom and terrace and great views of the old mango trees. Downstairs is another large guest room with an ensuite bathroom. I have a small guest room and study/office with a single bed. It's home.
The space
It's an open-plan house with sliding doors leading to a small but pretty garden. The house is one of 6 built in a mango grove - lots of trees. You enter by a gate from a quiet road. There are 3 bedrooms downstairs, one has an ensuite bathroom, the other two share a bathroom ( currently one is an office/study with a single bed. The other rooms all have queen-sized beds. The kitchen is the heart of the house and we love to cook (we have a small baking business, and my housekeeper does most of the baking). Upstairs is a master suite with a king-sized bed, a private ensuite bathroom and a terrace overlooking the mango trees. And yes, I have a housekeeper.
Guest access
There are two levels with an open plan staircase that leads to the master suite upstairs.
Notes
There is a brand new gym at my front door, it's got a big weights room, boxing, a pool, sauna and ice baths and a cafe.

Neighbourhood
I live on a pretty river, just 10 minutes walk to the beach. There are a few cafes, spas, and a sports bar in my street, and a mini-mart. It's within walking distance of Seminyak. Just moments away in Legian you'll find old-school Bali with lots of shops, restaurants, bars and beach bars to watch the sunset.
Getting to my home
I live about half an hour from the airport. transport is very easy here with taxis and transport apps that will take you anywhere.
Nearest airport
half an hour to the airport ( traffic can be a headache here so sometimes it will take longer.)
Getting around
You can walk to the nearby shops, restaurants and the beach. If you'd like to explore further the transport apps ( Gojek and Grab) are a great way to get around. you can also rent a bike or car for self-transport.

Hi, I'm a food and travel writer based in Bali. I'm now in my early '60's, my kids have moved on and I live in a pretty bungalow in Legian, Bali. I live close to the beach with a brand-new gym next door. I'm a baker by hobby and my housekeeper is my partner so the house always smells amazing. I'm originally from Sydney, Australia. I currently have two elderly cats, who knows for how much longer.
