Our home is in the north side of Cambridge, by the river Cam. It provides the quintessential Cambridge experience: contemporary housing nested in an up and coming, leisurely, nature-abundant area. The house has warm wooden floors and lots of light. It has fantastic soundproofing and is a haven of peace inside, very cosy. It is in a street with no-through traffic so you only see bikes passing by and there’s a lovely traditional church at the end of the street. 

We keep it quite minimal (clutter minimised) and focused on it being functional for all the family, hence a strong focus on children’s spaces (I’m passionate about child-development, art and education).

The Space

Three floor townhouse. Ground floor has open plan kitchen (fully equipped) and dining room, with a crafts and play area and French doors to the garden. The garden has been left mostly wild till now - kids play in the mud kitchen all year long but we plan on getting the garden fixed soon! Ground floors has utility room, toilet and big garage (now converted to wood and DYI workshop). 

1st floor has a very big living room and playroom, home office, guest room (single bed that opens up to double) and family bathroom.

2nd floor has the master en-suite (with shower) with king size bed and another massive kids en-suite (with shower) with two single beds. These rooms have very high ceilings and big windows to the sky :)

Underfloor heating throughout the house. Wooden floors. AC in master en-suite only.

Neighbourhood

Our home is in Chesterton. It is in a village-like, quaint neighbourhood with fantastic cafes, brunch, bakery, high quality pubs, yoga studio, supermarkets and butchers all within short walking distance. Cambridge city centre is a 20 min walk along the scenic river route, or 7 mins by bike or 7 mins by bus (bus stop near our house). 

This part of town is where folks run along the river, there’s commons full of cattle and horses in spring and summer, several playgrounds and woodland for kids to explore, and of course the boathouses and rowing all year round. Wildlife is abundant, it’s such a special place.

Getting to my home

Train from Stansted or London (any) - Cambridge North or Cambridge train station.
1hr direct train from Central London (Kings Cross) - train station is 10 mins walk from our house.

Nearest airport

Stansted (45 mins away driving).

Getting Around

Everyone moves by bike over here. We have two that we can leave for guests as well as a child’s and balance bikes. Can also move around with e-scooters and e-bikes which are parked in front of our house. Bus into town every 20 mins, 7 mins ride, bus stop is 1 min walking from our house. Cambridge North train station is 15 walking from our house, with direct 1hr / 45 min train to London Kings Cross (central London) and 1.20h to London Liverpool Street.

We are an international family from Portugal (myself) and Greece (husband). We have a very creative 5yr old daughter and an active 2yr old toddler. Kids were born in Cambridge and attend an independent small school and outdoors nursery.
