Neighbourhood
The neighborhood is occupied by primarily by long-term residents including expats and Hungarian natives alike and the community is very welcoming.
There are many gems in our neighborhood including:
1. Cafe Csiga--a local favorite for breakfast or lunch with an eclectic vibe and weekly specials
2. Vaj--mind-blowing pastries and coffee
3. Altair and Sirius--cozy hidden teahouses
4. Unkija--our favorite spot for napi menu (ask me more about napi menu in Budapest)
5. Rakoczi market--traditional covered market (smaller than the central market and more local)
6. And the newly opened Timeout Market!
I can give you many more recommendations. If you can't tell already, we absolutely LOVE our neighborhood.
Getting to my home
If you are flying into BUD, the best way to reach us is by taking the airport transfer 100E (requires a special ticket), by taxi (Bolt), or by the 200E and then changing to the M3 at Kobanya-Kispest (included in the normal tickets and public transport passes). It takes about 35 minutes to get from the airport to downtown Budapest.
Nearest airport
The nearest airport is BUD Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. It takes about 35 minutes to get from the airport to downtown Budapest.

People Like Us Local Guide
We have hosted lots of friends and family in Budapest. We know many great places for exceptional food, coffee, and pastries. We can recommend tourist attractions, local gems, and great walking routes. We can help you understand public transportation. We have direct connections for car rental, private Hungarian cooking classes, and market tours.
Alyssa and Toan's spacious well-equipped apartment is located in the very vibrant heart of gorgeous Budapest. Their kind neighbors were a great bonus: they all met me with open arms, and we had lots of nice conversations. The exchange included cat-sitting (by default), but both of them are very nice and absolutely adorable - I miss them a lot!!!, since we became real friends too. I stayed for almost 3 weeks, and it was a bit challenging for me alone (there was too much of fur, of course), but I believe we found some understanding re that with Alyssa, so I'd be happy to take care of the "kids" next time with some "help" should they need a sitter.
I felt welcomed by Alyssa and Toan and slept comfortable. Probably the only thing I was missing was some sort of a coffee-machine, but I managed. The city has so much to offer, that there is not enough space to describe! I even visited the Operetta! Thanks so much, Alyssa and Toan, for your friendliness and sharing your living experiences with me! Of course, I can only recommend you as partners.
We loved staying in Alyssa and Toan's home. Spacious, perfect location and anything you need for a Budapest getaway. Would love to visit again.
We had an amazing stay at Alyssa and Toan´s beautiful flat in Budapest. We cannot thing of a better place to be to visit the city/cities ;-). We loved their neighbourhood as you could walk to the Jewish quarters, and even to the city centre, but if we felt tired the metro and tram are just around the corner. They accepted my proposal really quick and we felt really privileged! They made us feel really welcomed at their place with some local goodies and a welcome note. We even have the chance to meet them briefly which was very nice. Our communication has been excellent both before and during the exchange, and thanks to their tips we have been able to enjoy even more this beautiful city. And last but not least, we were delighted to take care of Squeaky and Big Mac, they are so easygoing and low maintenance, and as cat lovers ourselves, we were happy when we got home to have their company :-). If you have the opportunity to exchange with them, do not hesitate to grab the opportunity! Hopefully we will be able to host them in Málaga in the future!
We spent 6 days in total at Alyssa and Toan´s gorgeous place in Budapest, using two Plutos. Please, read my comments on the other exchange!
Alyssa and Toan's home felt just like ours. Warm, cozy, and welcoming, like visiting old friends.
They greeted us with a lovely welcome wine and snacks for our child, and made sure we had everything we needed to feel comfortable. Their kindness and attention to detail really made a difference.
Their place is located in a lively neighborhood full of great food spots, so every morning was a chance to try something new. We could easily walk to the Jewish Quarter with its famous ruin bars, relax in small nearby parks, or hop on a tram or bus to reach all the main sights in no time.
What really touched us was that on our last night in Budapest, they even offered to look after our 8-year-old son so my husband and I could enjoy a little date night. It was such a thoughtful and generous gesture.
We feel like we’ve made new friends in Hungary and can’t wait to welcome them in Dubai anytime!
We had such a great hospitality stay at Alyssa and Toan's! They are just so so thoughtful and set us up with our own little fridge in our room full of drinks and other goodies. Then they also had some welcoming gifts for us that were special to Budapest.
We had such a great week with them. They are foodies and we've realized that we are definitely foodies as well! They took us to all their favourite restaurants which really spoiled us for good food. We loved their two cats, Big Mac and Squeeky. It took them a while to warm up to us, but by the end of the week, they accepted our love.😂
We can't wait for Alyssa and Toan to visit our home so we can spoil them as much as they spoiled us. They had their friend come over one night to make us an authentic Budapest meal: homemade cabbage rolls. They were sooooo good! And we also had homemade sour cherry soup which we'd never heard of but was also so good.
Alyssa and Toan's location is smack dab in the middle of everything. We walked everywhere. And if you're not up for walking, there's a tram right outside their door and the metro is a block away. We actually rented a scooter to go everywhere and it was so fun. Budapest has amazing cycling/scooter paths that are separate paths so you're not fighting with cars. I wish our province would jump on this concept!
The bed was super comfortable. You do have to climb a ladder as it's a loft but it wasn't an issue for us at all. Their washroom was just renovated and it's gorgeous. Don't even get me started on their super soaker bathtub. I have bathtub envy!
We've definitely made new friends and hope to see them soon at our place. Thanks Alyssa and Toan for everything!! ❤️

Alyssa and Toan were my guests for 2 weeks. That was their first time in Spain ever, so I was very pleased to welcome them. The communication before and during their stay was easy and pleasant - we even managed to meet shortly in person. They kindly brought very cute souvenirs from Budapest and did their best to leave the apartment as it was found. Alyssa is very friendly and asked questions when something was needed. Thanks for visiting and taking good care of my apartment, guys - I hope you enjoyed your days in Alicante area! Happy summer and maybe see you later in the year!
Alyssa spent a short time at my place with two of her friends. They are very kind and friendly. I got the rooms back in perfect order and clean. They looked around the area, in Tokaj and Sárospatak. I hope you had a good time and liked this region! I gladly recommend them!
Alyssa and Toan are new to PLU But they are seasoned responsible and wonderful travelers. They were so easy to have and left my home spotlessly perfect. Communication was easy and we had the opportunity to meet and spend some time which I loved. Alyssa and Toan brought wonderful treats from Hungary for us to enjoy . I would recommend exchanging with this lovely couple and enjoyed the experience so much! They are always welcome to come to stay in our home when they are visiting the area! Alyssa's mom and sister also enjoyed time with Alyssa and Toan at my home and they were wonderful as well . Alyssa has a very nice family!
Marlies and her husband were lovely guests. Communication was easy and they left they apartment in good shape. We would gladly host them again.
Alicia and her family were lovely guests. Communication was easy and they left the apartment perfectly clean. We would gladly host them again.

Made some new friends! Sehee and Kevin were fantastic guests! We had a really great time hosting them. They are very independent and are able to find their own activities but also very sociable and open to hanging out. We shared a few meals together and exchanged travel stories and experiences and it was great to learn about the world through their unique experience and living in Dubai. They also had an 8-year old son who they warned us likes to talk a lot. I found it very fun having conversations with him since he was so comfortable talking and asking questions. He definitely is not shy so it made it really easy to engage with him and laugh. We also found a video game to play together which was super fun! Very great family and very fun to host. We would host them anytime and anywhere! Hope to see them again!
Katherine was a great communicator. Our exchange was finalized quickly and, her communication before and during our visit was prompt and clear. Key pick-up and drop-off was easy. We stayed at the apartment for 2.5 weeks and enjoyed our time living more slowly compared to our usual lifestyle. I would consider Torrevieja a retirement community, with around 40% of the population 60+ years of age. The apartment is 10 min walk to the beach and 20 min walk to the downtown. We walked the beach almost every day. The views are stunning and the beaches are clean and not overcrowded. There are several grocery stores near to the apartment including some open 24 hours. During our time in Torrevieja, found several restaurants and shops that we enjoyed including METRO, which became my go-to spot for coffee in the morning. Thanks for sharing your apartment with us and we look forward to welcoming you in Budapest.
So glad you enjoyed your stay! I guessed you preferred Del Cura beach to Los Locos, which is closer - yes, many retired people prefer coming and walking the beach off-season, but there are plenty of live music shows, discos and various parks for kids too! Welcome back - hope you'll see more places next time!
It was an absolute joy having Cindy and Pete stay with us. It felt like having old friends visiting. Cindy and Pete were both respectful and enjoyable to be around. They are able to do their own thing yet always up for going on an adventure together! You know it’s comfortable when you can all be in the same room doing your own thing yet enjoying the company. There was never any pressure to entertain or awkwardness sharing our space. We shared tasty meals, conversations, and adventures around the city. In the short week that we hosted them, we felt very connected and became a little community. It was so lovely meeting Cindy and Pete and we hope we get the chance to see them again!
Aww! We feel the same way about you guys! ❤️ We’ve definitely made new friends which is what we love the most about PLU! See you guys soon!
Timea was a wonderful host. She offered us two rooms in her charming guesthouse. Her home was easy to find and there was plenty of room to park our car. Timea greeted us in person with the most delicious langos I have experienced and she offered plenty of recommendations of things to do in the area. There was a communal kitchen which had everything we need and Timea provided coffee for us during our visit. I recommend coming by car as this area in general is much easier to access with a vehicle. We had a BLAST exploring Tokaj and the other towns in the area and of course plenty of wine tasting. I hope more PLU members will experience this beautiful part of the Hungarian countryside. Thanks Timea for a wonderful visit.
Michelle and Marc were absolutely wonderful hosts and it was a pleasure to get to know them. Michelle spent a day touring us around Swampscott, Marble Harbor, and Salem. She was very knowledgeable about the community and history of the area and had plenty of excellent recommendations for places to eat and things to do. Michelle and Marc stocked the kitchen with drinks and snacks for us to enjoy during our visit. Their stunning home is comfortable and spotlessly clean and in a beautiful location right on the water. We were overwhelmed with Michelle and Marc's kindness and generosity and hope that we can return their kindness in the future.
