General overview

Built in 1910 but up to date in terms of amenities, this house is one of the first Modernist homes. It was designed by famous architect Irving J. Gill for the Cossitts. Gill incorporated sunshine, fresh breezes, and Arcadian views into his designs. The home is very peaceful, restful, and inspiring. It is close to downtown, the zoo, Balboa Park, and beaches. It is centrally located so it is easy to get to anywhere in the San Diego region, including Tijuana, MX.

The space

Cossitt Cottage is a 1,400 sf (130 m2) three bedroom single family home. It is in the city but on a canyon and quiet cut-de-sac. There are many shops, including a Whole Foods grocery and cafes within easy walking distance. The house is only set up for two bedrooms. The third bedroom is set up with a workspace desk and a TV. Inside there is a nice living room, sun room, dining room, and full kitchen. There are 2.5 bathrooms., one is a powder room downstairs. One is a full shared bathroom with a shower and tub upstairs. The other is a fll bathroom, shower only, in the en suite main bedroom. Outside, There is a freeway down the canyon in the back, so there is freeway noise in the back yard. It is not too bad though as you can still have conversations, Inside the house you can barely hear the freeway. Because the garden is walled and full of vegetation, you can not see the freeway. There is a back and side walled garden, secured by gates, that is very coxy and private. At the front of the house there is a covered arcade, under the arches, with seating. On the second floor there is an open balcony with seating. There is a one car garage, and there is usually free street parking too.

Guest access

The house is raised above the street, so there are outside steps to the house. There are also stairs inside the house to the second floor. This is the original stairway, so it is a little steeper and narrower compared to new American homes, but should be no problem for Europeans who are used to much older buildings. .
