General Overview
A tastefully decorated, shabby-chic style 4 bedroom family home. Part of our home is over 150years old. Relax in a beautiful designed garden with plenty of secret hide-aways to sit and dream the day away. Choose to sit or BBQ under a rose covered pergola, lie in a hammock or in a hot tub looking out at the surrounding fields, hills & woodland. A cooks kitchen & pantry makes cooking & dining a treat. A large front room offers relaxation in style, with baby grand piano and welsh dresser laiden with vintage crockery. Pet friendly and a stones throw to beautiful lakes, hills, walks, fishing, castles or an hour from beautiful beaches.
The Space
An open plan kitchen, dining and living room, with wood burning stove. Plenty of kitchen gadgets., including a bean to cup coffe maker, within a well stocked pantry. A separate utility room shares space with an office. Spend your evenings playing the piano or board games, in a more formal front room. A downstairs bathroom has a walk-in rain shower.
Upstairs has a sumptuous master bedroom with antique furniture, beautiful artwork and walk-in wardrobe. My sons double bedroom holds his natural history collections. My daughters bedroom is large, with one double bed and a day bed which can open to a second larger double bed. Our youngest daughters room is the smallest bedroom, with a comfortable double bed. The upstairs bathroom has a roll top bath where you can look out over fields with miniature Shetland ponies!
Guest Access
Our home is over 2 floors with the original wooden staircase. Plenty of car parking space for a number of cars. The garden is secure for pets...who are very welcome in our home...but we ask that they stay downstairs 😀
Notes
We do have pets which we can arrange to be looked after...unless anyone would like the experience of looking after them. Gracey our pony, Snoop dog our lazy cat and our 2 funny dogs. Teddy, a standard wirehaired dachshund and Chester, a rather barmy fox poo! (A fox terrier crossed with a poodle). Our house will be thoroughly cleaned.

Neighbourhood
A quiet rural retreat but with a close community. Our lane branches off to my brother and his family, with my aunty next door, so plenty of people to ask for help or advice! A local shop, pub and restaurant is a short 5 min drive away in Meifod.
We are in a perfect place to explore:
*Enjoy an Alpaca experience
*See or hike up Wales's highest waterfall in Llanrhaeadr
*Visit, hike or cycle around an extraordinary reservoir, straining tower, waterfall, iconic swim pool (at the top!)
*Discover a Grade 1 listed medieval castle & one of the most prominent in Wales, Powys Castle, Museum and formal Gardens
*There are plenty of market towns, castles or even beaches within an hours drive
*Close to the Berwyn mountains & Snowdonia
*Secret places to wild swim, hike, fish and more
*Enjoy the rolling landscape riding on Welshpool to Llanfair Light (Steam) Railway
*Close to historic border towns/cities of Shrewsbury, Chester and Aberystwyth
This area is a wonderful place to explore, whatever the weather.
Being rural, we do have to drive everywhere for amenities, but our home backs onto a wood and rivers for beautiful walks, straight from the door.
Getting to my home
You will need a car as our local transport system is limited.

Getting Around
Our nearest village is a 5 minute drive, nearest town 15min drive. If willing to drive upto 1hr on quiet country roads then you can see lots more!
Brilliant exchange with Jen and family. Their home is gorgeous - a beautifully decorated cottage and very comfortable. Jen was a pleasure to communicate with and we had a helpful video call in advance. She was also really helpful with suggestions and tips over WhatsApp. We were happy to look after her friendly cat; she arranged for her dogs to be looked after elsewhere.
The area is very rural and there are lovely views across fields and rolling hills from her house. We appreciated her recommendations for things to do in the area and did several things listed in her house manual. Thank you again Jen!
Jen has a beautiful house. We admired the countryside landscape and really enjoyed hanging out with the four-legged friends Teddy, Chester, Snoop dog and Gracey. We did a lot of walks in the woods which was just 2-minute walk from the house. And we absolutely loved the hot tub! If you have a car, you can also visit many nearby cities like Montgomery and Chester. Jen is a really helpful and hospitable host!
Our exchange with Jen and Billy was really successful. Excellent communication beforehand so everything went very smoothly. Their home is beautiful set in the heart of the countryside but within easy car distance of all sorts of interesting places: Powys Castle, Ludlow, Montgomery, Erddig Hall…. and Chester is less than an hour away for a more urban fix. We enjoyed cosy nights in front of a roaring stove and loved the hot tub. Thanks both for a really relaxing stay x
Very happy to recommend Jen and family as exchange partners. Our home was left as we'd left it and she was a pleasure to communicate with in advance, and during the exchange itself.
Jen and her family took good care of the flat during the stay. They took care of the plants and returned the flat spotless.
Jen is a wonderful exchange partner and so easy to work with. Her enthusiasm for traveling is contagious!
Jen and her girls came and stayed to look after our cat (and our dog for some of the stay).
Jen is incredibly joyful, the animals seemed happy, and the house was spotless. She was a delight to have, I wouldn't hesitate to a) have her back, or b) go and stay with her!
Thanks so much!
Jen and Billy had a busy few days in our home, visiting the Peak District (Chatsworth, Bakewell, Buxton, Hathersage) as well as enjoying what our neighbourhood has to offer locally. We returned to a spotless house which really is the best thing to come home to after an exchange and they’re welcome to come back any time.
We had a delightful holiday in the Tyack's family home, a beautiful town house situated on a quiet street and only a short walk from amenities & public transport. The house felt like a home from home & we only wished we could stay longer!
Their home is perfect for visiting London and for exploring the Chilterns & surrounding countryside (visiting St Albans). Although we didn't get to Harry Potter studios, it is only 10mins away!
We were made so welcome, being greeted with local produce & homemade flapjacks on the table!
We met online with Catherine & Jonny and shared many conversations & recommendations using WhatsApp.
We were so please that they enjoyed their stay at our home in the country and were delighted to find a painting Jonny had done of our view!
It has been a very pleasant & personable exchange. Thank you, dear Tyack family!
Thank you for such a memorable stay in Cadiz. We felt so at home in your lovely apartment, which is centrally located for the cathedral, castles, beach, botanical gardens, shops, restaurants and so much more! We especially loved spending time in your roof garden, which was also a bonus for drying clothes! Your home had everything we wanted to enjoy our stay.
It was lovely meeting Yuan & Andrew prior to exchanging. We were so grateful for the love & care shown to our furry family back home and the numerous walks they were taken on! We have benefited from being in close contact to get advice about local in sights. We would be delighted to exchange with you again, anytime 😊
What a truly magical experience! Having the opportunity to live like a local in what is the most beautiful island, has been like a dream. If strolling down quaint streets, drinks overlooking the harbour, swimming, hiking, amazing food is your thing, visit here!!!! Julie has helped us every step of the way to personalise our holiday, giving us local tips about getting around, where to swim, eat & visit. We spent the most memorable day on a boat excursion around the island (being locals, even the boat was skippered by Julie's friends!). Julie's home in La Maddalena has touched our hearts and we can't wait to return!
Looking forward to hosting you next year!
We have just spent a glorious exchange at Kate and Tim's wonderful home in beautiful West Sussex. It was our first time visiting this area & can't wait to return; stunning scenery, rich history, chocolate box villages, famous gardens, not far from the coast.
The home was lovely and just a walk to a village which has everything you need for your stay!
Kate & Tim have been very kind, wonderful hosts, keeping in touch, recommending places to visit & eat out, and on hand to answer any queries. We got to look after their cat (and dog for one day) which we really enjoyed.
Thank you for a wonderful stay, I would definitely recommend other PLU checking out Kate & Tim's home.
Wow, what a wonderful first exchange! We loved Liz & Paul's beautiful home. The house was so comfortable & homely, we felt we had known them for years! Liz & Paul's recommendations of places to eat & visit during our stay meant that we fitted right into their community. Living 'out in the sticks' ourselves, we made the most of urban life, eating out & live music, whilst driving out to explore the Peak District during the day. I would highly recommend you visit!
Paul & Liz were amazing guests, being very respectful of our property & left it in immaculate condition. They even bought us a lovely guest feedback book & flowers! We are looking forward to meeting online & swapping experiences (with the hope that they would welcome another swap down the line!) 😁
