General Overview

We have a 4 bedroom/3 bath house in San Diego (located between Carlsbad and Oceanside suburbs), gated community, large and landscaped backyard with outdoor dining, fitness gear, chaise lounges and an infrared sauna, lots of hiking trails right out the front door, 15 mins from the beaches, mild sunny weather year round!

The Space

Our house is a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom with a large, open space living / kitchen area. On the main floor, we have a primary bedroom with a California King sized bed setup, and large ensuite bathroom with massive shower. Downstairs, there are 3 bedrooms. We have our 3 year old's room with a twin bed (it has a pull out trundle for another twin bed which we don’t currently have but plan to order soon, let us know if it’s a requirement!) Great for kids. We also have a nursery, but can put an air mattress in instead. Finally, we have an office, which can also put an air mattress in. We also have a downstairs living room that has a queen-sized comfy pull out sofa bed. Our backyard is an oasis -- we have a sauna and cold plunge, and a huge yard thats landscaped and awesome to sit out in and watch the sunset. We also have fitness equipment for you to enjoy, and plenty of toys/bikes/scooters/skateboards/beach gear to share!

Guest Access

Our house is a "split level", so when you walk in, you can go up a half flight of stairs to the main floor, or down a half flight of stairs to the second living room, 3 bedrooms, and backyard. Our neighborhood has a gate, and is very safe!

Neighbourhood

Our neighborhood is safe and lovely. Our neighbors are very friendly! It backs up to gorgeous hiking canyons that you can walk to from the house within 5 minutes. Within walking distance, there is a playground 5 mins away at a church that’s open to our neighborhood, and a lovely park about 25 min walk away. We are a 15 minute drive to Legoland, the beach, 25 minutes to the Wildlife Park/Zoo, and 30 minutes to the iconic San Diego zoo. We are located in "North County San Diego" which is a very fun, lively, and family-friendly part of San Diego. San Diego county is HUGE and we are about 40 minutes from downtown San Diego suburbs, which offer more to do as well. You can drive or take the train. We are 40 minutes from Orange County (some lovely spots to explore include Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, San Juan Capistrano, and San Clemente).

Getting to my home

You need to rent a car or arrange a car swap with us. American suburbs are setup to be very driveable, and less so walkable. We're in a spot that's easy to explore all over San Diego and Orange County though - all the other major points of interest in this area are within striking distance. There is also a lovely costal view train that you can take between cities which stops about 15 mins from our house at the beach.

Nearest airport

San Diego Airport or John Wayne Airport. If you're coming in from overseas, you can fly into Los Angeles and drive about 2.5 hours to our house.

Getting Around

American suburbs are very much driving based. We suggest you rent a car or arrange a car swap with us.

  • We had an absolutely excellent stay in Megan and Joe’s beautiful home, it was the perfect base for our first home exchange. The house is located in a lovely neighbourhood, just a short drive to Oceanside and Carlsbad beaches and within easy reach of shops and local amenities. There are so many activities to do in the area, we loved the San Diego Zoo safari. The house is clean, modern, and incredibly well equipped, with a spacious kitchen, comfortable living areas, and a peaceful garden where we enjoyed relaxing in the evenings. There is also fresh produce in the garden which was very impressive! The home is clearly loved and well cared for. It was very child friendly, with thoughtful touches available like beach equipment and toys for young children, which made traveling with little ones so much easier. Megan’s house manual was incredibly detailed and helpful, highlighting excellent local attractions and family-friendly activities. Her yoga studio nearby was a great bonus and definitely worth a visit! We thoroughly enjoyed our time in San Diego and left feeling grateful for such a warm, welcoming, and seamless home exchange experience. We would highly recommend a stay in Megan and Joe’s home to anyone looking to explore this beautiful part of California.

Megan

We are a family of 4, with a toddler and an infant! We love to travel and while from California, have lived and traveled around the world (having traveled to 35 countries and hoping to add lots more, and have lived in Spain for a brief stint and 6 years in Australia). We are kind, respectful, and low maintenance. Megan works for herself — owns a yoga & fitness studio in town — and Joe works in tech (remotely), so we have some flexibility for travel!
