General overview

My home is ideal for solo travellers or couples (essentially adults only) that love to enjoy morning coffee on a sunny roof terrace overlooking the village-esque feel of Barnsbury. (Minimum 4 nights stay and mainly looking for reciprocal exchanges to my preferred destinations, although I can be tempted :). My home is a 2-bedroom townhouse over three floors with a bathroom or toilet on each floor. There is also a decent-sized roof terrace. The second bedroom is a music room and will not be available. However, the living room sofa contains a king-size sofa bed with a brand-new mattress, only to be used at a push. The flat has loads of light thanks to Velux windows in the kitchen, large traditional Victorian windows throughout and a hallway with a glass roof. For fitness fans, the wicker basket in the master bedroom contains weights, a roller, kettlebells and a medicine ball. Oh, and pink yoga mat next to the piano :). My preferred Destinations for 2024/5: Los Angeles, USA Stamford, CT, USA Seattle, USA Calgary, Canada Edinburgh, Scotland

The space

All bathrooms were refurbished in 2024 as was the living room flooring. All Victorian windows were replaced also making our home cosy in winter and cool in Summer.

Guest access

This Victorian building comprises five floors. Once entering the building's front door, you walk up a flight of stairs to the front door of our townhouse. Kitchen/living room/dining area is on the first floor, the Master bedroom and ensuite are on the second floor, wet room and roof terrace are on the top floor.

Notes

We provide a 16- page PDF Welcome Pack in advance. Where possible, we like to have a video chat with People Like Us exchangers to get to know each other and our homes :). Whilst the washing machine has a dryer facility, it is preferred that a clothes horse be used. As a reminder, please, no shoes in the house.

Neighbourhood

Barnsbury is a quiet residential area in Islington, itself 40 minutes walk from Central London and 25 minutes by bus. It’s also 25 minutes walk from Kings Cross. This area has a village feel on one side and cool cafes, restaurants and deli's on the other. Islington is also home to the wonderful Almeida Theatre and many pub theatres, an idea that started in Islington in the late '60s (Kings Head, Hen and Chicken, Red Lion, Rosemary Branch). The tourist attractions famous in London are all within easy reach either by tube, bus or Uber and you have a profusion of clothes and furniture shops, busy bars and restaurants on your doorstep. Vegan, Vietnamese, Asian and European. And more! And then there’s the Gastropubs such as The Albion or the Drapers Arms. Behind the Union Chapel (wonderful for concerts) is the cosy Compton Arms. Finally, you have to check out the restaurants on Theberton Street. We’ll say no more. Enjoy Camden Passage antiques on Saturdays and Wednesdays or stretch your legs along the Regents canal. We could go on! The TV hosts an Amazon Firestick with access to all the main UK channels and accounts with Netflix and YouTube. If you’re a tech head, we have the Surfshark VPN app on the Stick: the world’s your oyster. Enjoy London!

Getting to my home

It's a super access point for all London has to offer. It is 7 minutes walk from the Victoria Line (Highbury and Islington aka 'High & I'), and 10 minutes walk from the Northern Line (Angel).

Nearest airport

City Airport via the Northern Line to Bank and the DLR. Gatwick is directly on the Victoria Line (High & I), then the Gatwick Express. Travel time 60 mins if you plan the train times correctly. Stansted is easy too: Victoria Line to Tottenham Hale followed by the Stansted Express. 45 mins. Heathrow: one stop to Kings Cross (Northern Line or Victoria Line), then Picadilly Line all the way.50 mins.

Getting around

Many popular bus routes take you to Central London in 25 minutes (19, 38) Walking to SoHo, Covent Garden, the Tate Modern or the National Gallery, to name a few, all takes about 45 minutes. Travel is listed in detail in the Welcome Pack. Note: if you have Apple Pay or Google Pay, you can use your smartphone to tap the white circle located in any bus or Tube.
