General Overview
Our home is very well located to visit many Swedish sights and attractions.
- By car / train or bus you can reach Stockholm within 45-50 minutes.
- Västerås offers fantastic sights, such as Vallby Friluftsmuseum which gives you an insight into how Sweden was shaped through the ages with exciting history
- Västerås Cathedral with its cultural value and history from the 13th century
- Anundshög which is Sweden's largest ancient burial mound from the Viking Age
- The Botanical Garden which is Sweden's oldest botanical garden
- Frösåkers Brygga, which is our historical ship museum with over 20 Viking ships and a floating boat museum. On site, there is a café that serves homemade ice cream, Swedish buns and large tasty sandwiches.
- Kokpunkten, Sweden's first action bath.
- Sala Silver Mine is a visitor mine with one of the world's best-preserved mining environments. Here you are met by dark winding mine passages and grand, water-filled rock rooms. Sala Silvergruva is an exciting experience for both children and adults and is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Västmanland.
- We live in a fantastic terraced house in the city of Västerås. This terraced house is actually the first in Västerås and was built in the 1940s. The architecture and building style is very English and very charming.
Our neighbourhood is referred to in our city as the finest areas.
The Space
The house is modern and comfortable with central heating on all floors and infrared heating in the floor of the bathroom on upper floor. All floors of the house have access to high-speed WiFi. 250mb/250mb WiFi.
On the ground floor are the kitchen, indoor hallway and living room with access to the private terrace.
The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need to prepare a delicious meal. The kitchen table is extendable and seats a family. Then in the living room is also a dinning area that fits 4 - 10 people because the table is extendable.
In the living room is a Samsung The Frame 55 inch TV where you can enjoy Netflix/Youtube/HBO and more services. In the whole house we have multiroom audio system installed if you like to enjoy music.
On the upper floor the master bedroom and the kids room, the big bathroom and the extra closet is located. The master bedroom has a king size bed (180 cm), the kids room has a queen bed (120 cm). We also have a baby cot available if needed. Both room have plenty of wardrobe space. And in our daughters room we have a lot of toys for all ages, if you don't want toys during your stay we will take it away.
On the bottom floor you will find a extra bedroom with a queen size bed (160 cm) with a wall-mounted TV. A laundry room equipped with a washing machine and a tumble dryer. There is also a separate toilet on the bottom floor.
Should you have to work during your vacation, you can use our office. There's a 27 inch Imac computer in the master bedroom. You can connect your laptop to a screen and keyboard and also make use of the printer, the study has access to our WiFi and high-speed fiber (250mb/250mb) optic internet via LAN.
We have a very sunny south oriented terrace. We enjoy having lunch outside at the big table as often as possible. There's a weber BBQ grill on the terrace that you can enjoy.
We live in a low-traffic street where children can even play on the street and there are multiple playgrounds in the neighborhood. A trampoline is also installed in our garden.
Here in our house you live just minutes away from sandy beaches and the lake where you can swim, play volleyball or sunbathe. In the building there is a sauna (for up to 10 people), a smaller gym and a shared larger laundry and drying room to use. There is also a carpentry room if you want to build something.
Where we live, you only have a 10-15 minute walk to the central parts of Västerås. Here there are charming streets and cozy cafes and restaurants with a good selection. We hope you will enjoy your stay and have the opportunity to experience our beautiful Sweden!

The house has 3 floors so unfortunately, our home would not be good for wheelchair access.
There is plenty of free parking space just outside the house and also we have a private parking. It is allowed to stop in front of the door to load or unload.
Notes
Depending on your interests and the season you travel, we can give you lots of tips on what to do and where to eat. We have an extensive house guide with a lot of information about the area.
We are non-smokers and we have great respect for other people's homes and will treat your home with the utmost respect and care. We also own our own house so this house is not a rental house but we own it.
If you travel with babies or children we have all the toys, cutlery and accessories that's needed if wanted.

We live in a low-traffic street in quiet a neighborhood where children can even play on the streets. There are multiple playgrounds within walking distance.
Getting to my home
It is also very easy to travel to Sweden and get to our accommodation. You fly to the airport "Stockholm Arlanda" and then there is a direct bus from the airport to our city and the bus costs about 10 euros per person and then it is only a 10 minute walk from the station to our house.
Airport shuttle companies to Västerås is done by Flixbus, Bus4you or Flygbussarna. I could help you arrange this or maybe if possible pick you up at the airport.

What a perfect exchange! We loved Fredrik and Madelen’s cozy place. Ideal for our family, nice neighborhood and lots of kids and a playground just by the townhouse. We had barbecues on the terrace overlooking the kids in the trampoline. The place is close to city centre, just some 10-15 minutes walk through an old classy Villa suburban with magnificent big villas. As an architectural nerd it was a lovely walk. The place got a nice interior, classical Swedish minimalism which gives a calm relaxing atmosphere. Also the train station is close by if you wanna visit Swedens capital Stockholm, round about 50minutes away by train. We sure wanna do more exchanges ! -
We felt right at home staying in Fredrik and Madelen's home in Västerås. It's is an inviting, comfortable and tastefully decorated home and the neighborhood is nice with fun things to do and an easy walk to the center. Communication was easy. We were lucky enough to meet the family before and after the exchange which was lovely. Fredrik gave us lots of nice tips and kept in touch throughout the exchange and afterwards which was nice. We recommend this home and would exchange with them again. I hope to see them sometime in Iceland so I can repay them some of their kindness. -
We loved this home! Very cute and cozy home with lots of room. We ended up hanging out a lot at home. Brian's place was to hang out on the deck/patio out back. We were here in the summer, so there was plenty of daylight hours to enjoy the patio. With bikes or scooter rental, super easy and fast to get into downtown, but also easily walkable if you're uncoordinated like Sara. Lots of walking paths to town. There are other scenic spots outside the city, but you may need a car to get there. There is bus service in town, but it's walkable if you're ok with walking. If you are lucky enough to exchange while Fredrik and his family is in town, they are such generous hosts. They were always reachable if we had questions, and are really a wonderful family. It's not just an exchange, we have new friends now! We look forward to welcoming them back to phuket next year! -

We are a family from Sweden of four people. My name is Fredrik Lamell and my biggest passion is exploring the world and getting to know other cultures and sceneries. My wife Madelen Thors owning four Subway-restaurants in the city Västerås where we today live in. We have our daughter Majken who are 3.5 years old and our son Ruben 2 years old. Earlier have we travelled a lot and when our daughter Majken was borned we bought a camper van, and in Sweden we are lucky because you get 480 days of paid leave which gave us the opportunity to travel a lot with the van and Majken saw 12 countries before the age of 2. As a family, we are non-smokers, and we treat other people's homes with the utmost care and respect. We are happy to have the opportunity to discover other cultures and exchange experiences with you.
