General Overview
Welcome to our charming English-inspired terraced house in the heart of Västerås – a perfect base for exploring the very best of Sweden!
Our newly renovated home combines classic British character with modern comfort and is located in one of the city’s most desirable neighbourhoods. Built in the 1940s, it was the very first terraced house in Västerås and features beautiful English-style architecture that feels both historic and welcoming.
Västerås offers an excellent mix of culture, nature and relaxation by Lake Mälaren, and is only about 50 minutes from Stockholm by car, train or bus. Highlights nearby include:
• Västerås Cathedral (13th century) with its rich history and cultural treasures
• Anundshög – Sweden’s largest ancient Viking burial mound
• Vallby Friluftsmuseum – a wonderful open-air museum that brings Swedish history to life
• The Botanical Garden – Sweden’s oldest
• Frösåkers Brygga – a unique floating ship museum with over 20 Viking ships, plus a lovely café serving homemade ice cream, fresh buns and sandwiches
• Kokpunkten – Sweden’s first action water park
• Sala Silver Mine – one of Västmanland’s top attractions with impressive underground passages and chambers
From August 2026 we offer two brand new electric e-bikes for our guests (one women’s city cruiser and one men’s gravel/city bike). Both are equipped with child seats, making it easy and fun to explore the city and surroundings – whether you’re travelling as a couple or with the family.

A well-equipped kitchen with everything you need to prepare delicious meals. The extendable kitchen table seats the whole family comfortably. The spacious living room includes a separate dining area with an extendable table for 4–10 people, plus a large Samsung The Frame 55” TV with Netflix, YouTube, HBO and more.

We also provide a baby cot upon request.

Outdoor spaces
Our sunny south-facing private terrace is one of the highlights of the house. Enjoy lovely lounge time in the sofa group or gather around the large dining table for meals outdoors. There’s a Weber BBQ grill, a trampoline in the garden, and plenty of space for relaxed moments.
We also provide two brand new electric e-bikes (one women’s city cruiser and one men’s gravel/city model, both with child seats) that you are welcome to borrow during your stay.
The street is quiet and low-traffic – ideal for children to play safely, with several playgrounds nearby and also a trampoline in our garden.
Just minutes away you’ll find sandy beaches by Lake Mälaren, perfect for swimming, sunbathing or playing beach volleyball.
In the building you also have access to a small gym and a shared larger laundry room. The location is fantastic – only a 15-minute walk or 5 minutes with bike to Västerås city centre with its charming streets, cozy cafés and great restaurants.
Guest Access
The house has 3 floors so unfortunately, our home would not be good for wheelchair access.
There is plenty of free parking space just outside the house and also we have a private parking. It is allowed to stop in front of the door to load or unload.
Notes
We are happy to share our local knowledge and give you personalised tips on restaurants, activities and hidden gems depending on your interests and the season you’re visiting. You’ll also find a detailed house guide in the home with lots of recommendations about Västerås and the surrounding area.
We are non-smokers and always treat other people’s homes with care and respect – just as we would our own. This is our family’s private home (not a rental property), and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
We are very child-friendly. If you’re travelling with babies or young children, we have a good selection of toys (suitable for ages 1–7), children’s cutlery, plates, high chair, baby cot and other accessories available upon request.

You can contact me if you would like to have a drink or a walk in Västerås or the surrounding towns. I enjoy showing others around.
We had a wonderful stay at Frederiks lovely home. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to meet them in person, but communication was always excellent, friendly, and very easy.
The house has everything you could possibly need and was in a spotless condition. Our children had a fantastic time playing with all the toys, as well as outside, where there is a trampoline and a playground right in front of the house.
There are also many nice playgrounds in the surrounding area. Västerås itself has so much to offer, with a lively pedestrian area, beautiful parks, plenty of water, and lots of green spaces. We especially enjoyed a little trip to Östra Holmen, which is a lovely place for a short escape into nature.
Frederik gave us lots of great tips for things to do and see. The Friluftsmuseet in Vallby was another highlight for the children and a lovely place to visit as a family.
Stockholm can be reached in about an hour, making the location perfect for using public transport.
It was a wonderful — and far too short — stay. We would absolutely recommend staying here. Thank you for making our time in Västerås so enjoyable!
I did a wonderful house swap with Fredrik and his family in Västerås and stayed in their charming English-style townhouse. What a gem!
The house is beautiful, bright and full of character — built in the 1940s with a lovely private garden where I enjoyed my peaceful mornings. Everything was clean, comfortable and well-equipped, and I especially appreciated the great kitchen and cozy living room. Loved the sauna!
The location is perfect: close to the lake and beach, yet central with easy access to everything Västerås has to offer. Fredrik and his family were fantastic to swap with — responsive, kind and thoughtful. I already miss the bakery: Bageri April (amazing place)!
I felt right at home the whole time and had a really lovely stay. Highly recommended! They also made me a lovely welcome gift which was super nice of them.
Thank you Fredrik, Maddi, Majken and Ruben 👏 ⭐
What a lovely town house, full of kid-friendly furniture and toys! Nice calm quiet neighborhood. We had a nice stay at their house for 3 weeks, having a chance to visit Stockholm, Orebro, Birka… Our baby loved it here too.
Communication with Fredrik is easy and regular. We also swap bikes - they let us use their 2 bikes with a child seat at the back which our 1yo really like, a nice change from the cargo bike we have at home. When the older bikes broke down, Fredrik immediately asked his mom to help, and she brought to us her own bike as a replacement, how kind!
We enjoyed their terrace and garden, especially watering their plants and seeing raspberries, strawberries and tomatoes grow day by day. My baby picked and tasted a couple of home grown fruits on his own.
All in all it’s a nice experience and a good change of environment from the bustling busy city where we live. Despite our whole trip being stormy (with numerous unexpected events one after another, from sickness right before the trip and delays during our journey there to troubles in our home, Fredrik remained a calm, understanding and cooperative exchange partner who solved problems with us.
To Fredrik, Madelen, Majken and Rubin, thank you all!
I had a very pleasant house swap in Västerås and really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful townhouse.
The house is bright, comfortable, and well-equipped, with a nice kitchen and a cozy patio where we liked to spend time. The location was convenient – quiet yet close to the city center.
During our visit we enjoyed walks by Lake Mälaren, visits to Västerås Cathedral, exploring the old town, and seeing the ancient Viking site at Anundshög. We also appreciated the easy access to parks, cafés, and good train connections to Stockholm.
Everything worked smoothly and we felt very welcome. Thank you to our hosts – we would gladly recommend this home for a relaxing stay in Västerås.
What a perfect exchange! We loved Fredrik and Madelen’s cozy place.
Ideal for our family, nice neighborhood and lots of kids and a playground just by the townhouse.
We had barbecues on the terrace overlooking the kids in the trampoline.
The place is close to city centre, just some 10-15 minutes walk through an old classy Villa suburban with magnificent big villas. As an architectural nerd it was a lovely walk.
The place got a nice interior, classical Swedish minimalism which gives a calm relaxing atmosphere.
Also the train station is close by if you wanna visit Swedens capital Stockholm, round about 50minutes away by train.
We sure wanna do more exchanges !
We felt right at home staying in Fredrik and Madelen's home in Västerås. It's is an inviting, comfortable and tastefully decorated home and the neighborhood is nice with fun things to do and an easy walk to the center.
Communication was easy. We were lucky enough to meet the family before and after the exchange which was lovely.
Fredrik gave us lots of nice tips and kept in touch throughout the exchange and afterwards which was nice.
We recommend this home and would exchange with them again.
I hope to see them sometime in Iceland so I can repay them some of their kindness.
We loved this home! Very cute and cozy home with lots of room. We ended up hanging out a lot at home. Brian's place was to hang out on the deck/patio out back. We were here in the summer, so there was plenty of daylight hours to enjoy the patio.
With bikes or scooter rental, super easy and fast to get into downtown, but also easily walkable if you're uncoordinated like Sara. Lots of walking paths to town.
There are other scenic spots outside the city, but you may need a car to get there. There is bus service in town, but it's walkable if you're ok with walking.
If you are lucky enough to exchange while Fredrik and his family is in town, they are such generous hosts. They were always reachable if we had questions, and are really a wonderful family. It's not just an exchange, we have new friends now! We look forward to welcoming them back to phuket next year!
Fredrick and his Family are amazing. The flat was gorgeous, super clean and cozy - actually exactly Like seen on the pictures before. Even better:) Also Västerås is a Little sweet swedish Town. We have seen the first h&m Store in the World!:)
We d love to Come back
A pleasure to have hosted Fredrik and his family!
We arrived home and all is fine.
Despite our whole trip being stormy (with numerous unexpected events one after another, from sickness right before the trip and delays during our journey there to troubles in our home), Fredrik remained a calm, understanding and cooperative exchange partner who solved problems with us. He found plumber and oversaw their check, which showed a leakage behind the wall that my building manager would be responsible for fixing. They used our cargo bike and city bike with respect and left them in the same state as when we left. They did more cleaning than what we expected of them.
All in all, totally recommend!!!
Welcome back Fredrick and Family! We love having you back again, as we know you are such a great guest, and more importantly, FRIEND! We always know our home will be in great hands with you. We love that YOU LOVE Phuket. I think at this point, Phuket is your second home haha
Thank you very much for your very generous robo vacuum gift... and a new coffee maker. We look forward to hosting you again in 2027!
Fredrik and his family were super easy to communicate with, very friendly, and easy going! Unfortunately, we didnt get the chance to meet them, hope we can one day! Hope they come back :)
We have been so very fortunate to welcome Fredrik, Madde and their beautiful kids to our secondary home. It has been a true deligth. The communication was great from the start and they took such good care of our home. They even helped out with a few things that had been neglected by misstake.
You can not ask for better guests and we truly recommend them to anyone who wants guest that will look after and take great care of your home.
We are so happy that we could share our paradise with you and we would love to welcome you back!
This hospitality exchange was made with very short notice and we got in contact via the Facebook group. Our planned guest couldn´t make it and we really needed someone to take care of our house and cat a couple of days before our next guests arrived. Contact with Fredrik was very easy and straight forward from the start and they left our home in a great shape for our next guest. Thanks for helping us out and we are very pleased that you seemed to had good time in our home. I can really recommend exchanging with Fredrik and his family. Wonderful when the “plu-magic” works this good.

Fredrik and family were a delight to host. They really seemed to enjoy our island, and we get much joy from seeing that! They were very easy to communicate with, and helped us out a few times with home stuff. That is the beauty of home exchanging. They were part of a handful of back to back visitors, so we appreciate them prepping the home for our next guests. Great family, looking forward to meeting them when we visit them this summer!
Fredrik and his little family were wonderful guests. They are super personable, have left everything in perfect order and also the communication was very easy and pleasant. You are welcome again at any time and we wish you all the best
Fredrik, Madelen, Majken, and Ruben:
we had the pleasure of hosting you, and it was a wonderful experience! We also got the chance to meet you briefly upon your arrival, and you are such a lovely family: kind, warm, and a joy to interact with.
Communication with you was smooth and easy throughout the entire process (before, during, and after the exchange). You even brought us a thoughtful gift: Majken’s favorite snacks, and some beautiful teddy bears, which were such a sweet touch 🧸🍬🍫
Thanks for being respectful of our home, trying to leave it spotless. We truly appreciate your care!
We would host you again in a heartbeat and highly recommend you to anyone in the PLU community. Thank you dear family for such a positive exchange experience 💛

We had Michaela and her family visiting — they stayed in and borrowed our house in Västerås. What a super lovely family! We would warmly recommend them to anyone. They explored the city and followed our recommendations, left a sweet little gift when they departed, and just seemed like genuinely wonderful people.
Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to meet them in person this time, but we really hope to do so next time. Highly recommended! ❤️

We were happy to have Madeleine stay in our house in Västerås while she was visiting our town. She’s such a delightful person and we’d happily recommend her to anyone! She made the most of her time exploring the city and all our local tips, and even left a thoughtful little gift when she headed home. Easy communication during the stay and before.
A truly lovely guest! ❤️
Feedback for Tu & George·Simultaneous exchange·22 nights
We had a great house swap with Tu & George — they stayed in our home in Västerås while we were in Vienna.
Tu & George are genuinely lovely and very nice people. They took great care of our house and we really appreciated how honest and communicative they were. When tv remote went missing during their stay, they let us know right away and bought a new similar one to us for example, which made everything so much easier. It was also heartwarming to hear how much they enjoyed both our home and Västerås — they clearly had a great time. Tu was always easy to communicate with and quick with response.
We would happily recommend them. Thank you Tu & George! ❤️
Feedback for Tu & George·Simultaneous exchange·22 nights
We did a wonderful simultaneous house swap with Tu & George — they stayed in our house in Västerås while we stayed in their apartment in Vienna.
Overall, our stay in Vienna was really lovely. The location is excellent: very central and within easy reach of beautiful parks and several nice swimming spots. Having access to their cargo bike was a game changer — it made exploring the city with our kids so much easier and more enjoyable. We cycled everywhere and it truly enhanced our trip. Vienna is a lovely city and the perfect place to explore with kids as a family.
The apartment itself has a lot of potential. We especially loved the large balcony, though it would be even better with some outdoor / lounge furniture so guests can sit out and enjoy it more. We also encountered a large amount of silverfish in the apartment, which was a bit unpleasant as they appeared in several places. Tu was very responsive and did her best to help with the different issues we had during our stay. She also mentioned she will inform future guests about the silverfish, which we think is a great and honest approach.
All in all, a very nice stay in a great location. Thank you Tu & George!

Sara & Brian, THANK you for this wonderful opportunity to once again explore the magic of Panwa & Phuket.
Our stay in Phuket was absolutely fantastic. Your home now felt like a our second home in Asia, and it made our time in Thailand even more special. Lovely to see some people we meet during our last adventure and then have the chance to meet them again. We are so grateful for the opportunity to experience Phuket — the stunning beaches, the incredible food, the friendly people, and that wonderful island atmosphere. It really does feel like a second home to us now! Now I really miss the food at Tarzan Cafe, the 7/11 ice coffee, the atmosphere at Chillva Market.
We also want to thank you again for being such fantastic hosts. And we truly appreciate the trust you place in us every time. We’re already looking forward to coming back in 2027!

Feedback for Joana·Non-Reciprocal exchange·8 nights
Our family had an absolutely incredible stay in Venade, Portugal, at a stunning house that truly made our vacation unforgettable. This beautiful property was a dream come true, featuring a gorgeous pool, breathtaking views, and even a private tennis court that added a fun, active touch to our days. The house itself was spacious, modern, and impeccably maintained, offering everything we needed for a comfortable and luxurious stay.
One of the standout highlights was the fresh bread delivered to our doorstep every morning – an indulgent treat that elevated our breakfasts and made us feel truly pampered. The surrounding area is filled with charm, and having our own rental car was an absolute must. It gave us the freedom to easily explore nearby attractions, beautiful beaches, and quaint villages at our own pace, which added so much to the experience. Can recommend to rent car from GoDrive next to OPO airport - supergood service.
Our host, Joana, was an absolute gem. Her warmth and hospitality shone through from the moment we arrived. She was always quick to respond to any questions we had, offering helpful tips and recommendations that made our stay even more enjoyable. Her genuine care for her guests truly enhanced our experience.
As a family, this trip was perfect, and sharing the house with another PLU family made it even more special. We loved bonding over shared activities, from poolside relaxation to friendly tennis matches and exploring the region together. The setup was ideal for creating lasting memories with both our kids and our friends.
We can’t recommend this place enough for families or groups looking for a blend of relaxation, adventure, and luxury in the heart of Portugal’s stunning countryside. Just make sure to rent a car to fully embrace all that Venade and its surroundings have to offer. Thank you, Joana, for an extraordinary stay – we’re already dreaming of coming back!
Feedback for Angela·Non-Reciprocal exchange·24 nights
We had the most wonderful stay in Isla Plana for the past three weeks.
The house was perfect for our family, very comfortable and well-equipped, and we immediately felt at home. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and helpful, and communication was smooth from the very beginning.
The area is beautiful and offers so much to explore. We strongly recommend renting a car to be able to fully enjoy the surroundings – from charming nearby towns to the many stunning beaches along the coast. Every day we found a new favorite spot to swim, relax or just enjoy the amazing views. Some of our favourites was Bateria de Castillitos, day trips to Cartagena, the shopping mall outside of Cartagena, Bolnuevo, Beach walk in Puerto de Mazarron.
We are so grateful for this stay and would love to come back.
Thank you Angela and Micke for sharing your lovely home and paradise with us!
Feedback for Martin·Simultaneous exchange·14 nights
This exchange turned out to be very spontaneous when Martin & Anna got in contact with us. They wanted to explore our town Västerås and we loved to looks of their home next to the beautiful lake.
This is really a Dream Villa by Lake Vänern
We had a wonderful home exchange in this stunning villa by Lake Vänern. The house is beautifully designed with panoramic lake views and spacious living areas that connect seamlessly to the large terrace with sofas, BBQ, and a jacuzzi—perfect for relaxing evenings.
The villa is ideal for families, offering five bedrooms, a playroom, and great outdoor fun with swings, trampoline, and even a heated water slide. We loved the many thoughtful features.
Its location is perfect: just steps from the water, where a day-cruiser is available for exploring the archipelago, and within walking distance of the charming town center and a lakeside golf course.
This home combines comfort, luxury, and family-friendly warmth. We feel truly fortunate to have stayed here and can highly recommend it to anyone considering an exchange. Such a lovely stay!
Feedback for Martin·Simultaneous exchange·14 nights
Anna & Martin and their kids are so lovely. This exchange were very spontaneous but everything felt right from the beginning. Super easy communication, lovely hospitality from them when we arrived at their house. They updated us with stuff they did in Västerås during their stay in our home and it was lovely to be part of that. Can highly recommend doing house swaps with them.
Gerda & Bjarni was such a lovely couple to have in our home. Super friendly and we had interesting talk about the differences about Sweden and Island. They stayed in our home for about a week and had chance to travel around easily with car, to see surrounding cities and visit family. On departure they surprised us with flowers and exciting chocolate and gifts from
Island because it was my wife’s birthday. Very very sweet of you. The perfect guests to have and we would love to welcome you here anytime in the future.
Feedback for Andreas·Hospitality exchange·3 nights

Where to start? It’s been such a joy to host Sara & Brian and welcome them to our beloved home here in Sweden. After this exchange we see them as dear and great friends of us and it’s been so fun to show them our surroundings as a day trip to our summer house for a traditional Swedish lunch and a BBQ at the evening. Sara & Brian are super nice guests to have, kept the house clean, helped us water our plants and they seemed to enjoyed our town and what it offers. We really look forward to see you again and next year we will return to their magical home in Phuket, Thailand. Can’t wait for that 😍

We were beyond happy with our stay in Panwa. Communication with Sara and Brian was smooth and friendly, and they were always quick to help with any questions we had. They shared lots of great local tips that really enriched our experience. The apartment was in a beautiful location, and having access to their car made everything so convenient. Today, we consider them dear friends and we truly look forward to welcoming them to Sweden this summer.
A wonderful and lovely home in central Berlin. Daniel and his family was caring and social and helped us with all our needs. This apartment is truly incredible! Loved that you had so much stuff to do close to the apartment and we slept very well there. Great coffee shops and restaurants in the area around. Thanks for this experience!
We had Daniel, Annie and their daughter Fleur on Hospitaly exchange now in January here in Sweden and we had the most wonderful time together. Their daughter was in the same age as our daughter Majken and they had such a lovely time together and we did discover our town Västerås. Had some snowy days and did go for winter activities all together. It was truly lovely to host you and we wish to keep contact for future travel plans together.

Hi! First of all a BIG thank you for the hospitality of giving us the chance to stay in your beautiful home. In the outskirts of Barcelona we stayed in a lovely neighbourhood where everything was reachable by foot, bus or train. Communication have always been very easy and good with you Lucia and I’m so glad that we had the chance to meet you in person before you left for the airport. You, Nico and your lovely kids Felipe and Pau where amazing. Our daughter Majken talked about you many days during our stay and she loved to play with the toys and cuddle animals that you had. Thanks! This holiday where perfect in every way, we could have some lazy days and just explore the local neighbourhood and when we wanted we could take the bus or train into central Barcelona. A positive thing was also how close you live to FC Barcelonas training center which gives you the opportunity to visit the smaller stadium and look out for the players entering and leaving the area. If you’re lucky you could get an autograph from the players. I would love to revisit some day in the future and would love to keep contact. I think we would find many common interests and our kids would play well. Thanks again for the lovely PLU-hospitality. All the best from Fredrik with family.

Hi!
We are a family from Sweden of four people. My name is Fredrik Lamell and my biggest passion is exploring the world and getting to know other cultures and sceneries. My wife Maddie owning four Subway-restaurants in the city Västerås where we today live in. We have our daughter Majken who are 5 years old and our son Ruben 3 years old. Earlier have we travelled a lot and when our daughter Majken was borned we bought a camper van, and in Sweden we are lucky because you get 480 days of paid leave which gave us the opportunity to travel a lot with the van and Majken saw 14 countries before the age of 2. As a family, we are non-smokers, and we treat other people's homes with the utmost care and respect. We are happy to have the opportunity to discover other cultures and exchange experiences with you. Cheers and hope to get in touch soon!
