Stay here and you'll be within 20 minutes of almost everywhere you want to be in San Diego: World Famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World, some of the best beaches in San Diego (Torrey Pines, La Jolla Shores), Balboa Park, Historic Old Town, and downtown San Diego with the stadium, Midway aircraft carrier, museums, etc. In San Diego, we have a big foodie scene, craft beer galore, and plenty of hiking trails and water sports to burn off all those extra calories.
Legoland and the Wild Animal Safari Park are a 45 minute drive away, and Disneyland is a 2 hour drive.
The space
We have a modest, well-lived in, and well-loved 2 bedroom, 2 bath home that is nicely appointed for a relaxing stay. It's a great base for exploring San Diego, and is suitable for a single, couple or small family. Nothing here is childproofed, but well-behaved children and pets are welcome. Enjoy exploring our collection of board games if you need an afternoon or evening off from more active pursuits.
Guest access
Ours is a single story home, with no flights of stairs to navigate. There are one or two steps at each of the doors. The property is not considered wheelchair accessible.
Notes
TELEVISION: We have a 45 inch tv by the living room couch, and it has Netflix. Please be aware there are no tvs in the bedrooms, but my wifi is available in the bedrooms and throughout the house for you to connect and view on your own tablet or other devices. .
CAR: This is southern California and you **really** need to have a car to get around. Please inquire if you need to borrow a car -- I will sometimes have that option available.
PETS: We have had a dog in the house recently so there may be some residual allergens from that, but there are no pets in residence. The back yard is fenced, but a small dog could get through gaps in the gates and should be supervised.

Neighbourhood
Our house is on a quiet street in a modest suburban setting, 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego. We are walking distance (10-15 minute stroll through the neighborhood) from a good-sized shopping center that has a major grocery store, cinemas, a french bakery, Krispy Kreme donuts, Outback Steakhouse, Denny's, Chilis, and several fast food restaurants (Subway, greek, indian, mexican, Coldstone) and 2 Starbucks - all walking distance.
From our house, it's also a pleasant walk to a sushi place (Fish Attack) and burger place/whiskey bar (Boomerangs). We have plentiful options nearby for taco shops, donut shops, subs, and pizza, but those are not walking distance. The Convoy Asian Restaurant District is a 10 minute drive, with a tremendous variety restaurants to explore. You'll find many, many foodie restaurants and craft breweries within a 20 minute drive.
Getting to my home
From the airport, go north on Interstate 5, and exit Balboa Avenue. Google maps will take you straight to our address.
Nearest airport
San Diego International - SAN - is 20 minutes away. Lately it has been around $50 for a cab ride or Uber.
Getting around
Even though we have a number of shops and restaurants within walking distance of the house, you absolutely will want to have a car when visiting San Diego -- whether you stay with us or elsewhere. This part of the world is just made for people to get around by car. Public transit is not a good option to rely on.
We're a 20 minute drive from many, many places that people like to see when visiting the area. That being said, traffic on the interstates can be intense, so allow extra drive time during rush hours.

Happy to meet up and share my local knowledge of the area, from living here over 20 years. Google knows (almost) everything, but you have to know what to ask!

People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
This sunny living room is our favorite place in the home.
Two children or one teen/adult can sleep on this sofa. It actually has a pull out bed folded up inside but the mattress is not the most comfortable so we prefer to just use the sofa cushions which are quite nice to sleep on.
Peek through the sliding glass door from the living room out onto the patio, where you'll have a patio table, 4 chairs. Great place to sip a beverage while watching for butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators that sometimes visit our flowers and citrus trees.
A Weber charcoal grill is stored (under black cover) just around the corner of the house, steps from the back patio door.
Bedroom #1 has a super comfy queen sized Select Comfort (Sleep Number) bed with a mattress that can be adjusted by each of the sleepers to their preferred level of firmness via remote control.
First small bathroom in the hallway has a spa vibe and walk in shower.
Bedroom #2 has a cozy twin mattress with plush gel foam mattress topper.
Small bathroom #2 is also off the hallway, and features a combination shower / whirlpool tub.
Breakfast nook with two chairs and a bay window bench seat.
Eat in anytime with the easy convenience of a galley-style kitchen.
Our kitchen includes nice basics - fridge, dishwasher, microwave, gas stove and oven. You'll find a mixer, toaster oven, blender, waffle iron and a variety of pots & pans. This kitchen gets a lot of use and love.
Outside front (garage at left not fully shown)
Outside back yard is fenced, with a concrete patio and wood mulch surface. You are welcome to pick oranges and lemons from our citrus trees if the fruit is in season.
Our game closet has plenty of choices - many old favorites and maybe a few you haven't played before.
Several excellent beaches are within a 20 minute drive. La Jolla Shores and Torrey Pines are the closest, but see also Coronado, Moonlight Beach, La Jolla Cove. So many to choose from!
Stroll La Jolla Village, check out the sea caves and the coastal walk with views of La Jolla Shores. The art museum has a public patio with a great view of the sunset. 6 miles from here / 15 minutes.
Hike in the canyons surrounding our neighborhood or go for a short drive to enjoy state and regional parks
Go tidepooling near Cabrillo National Monument. Look for migrating whales from the top of the bluff. Tour the lighthouse. Great views of San Diego bay from the visitor center patio.
The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, which also has several other excellent museums - the Fleet Science Museum & Museum of Natural History are always popular. But the Zoo is in a class of it's own. They don't call it "World Famous" for nothing.
SeaWorld theme park is a top attraction located 7 miles / 13 minutes from our door.
Walk along the boardwalk, play in the sand of Mission Beach, then ride the wooden roller coaster at Belmont Park.
Every member of the family will enjoy a visit to the Midway aircraft carrier museum. You don't have to be a military history buff to have a great time!
Old Town State Historic Park is a popular tourist area for shopping, restaurants, and western-style ambiance. You can also catch the Old Town Trolley here, which provides hop on -hop off service and tours to other points of interest, including Balboa Park.
