Neighbourhood
The house is a five-minute walk from the lovely local harbour beach and rock pool at Fairlight. Here you can join the Manly Scenic Walkway. Manly is a 15 minute stroll in one direction. The bars, restaurants, beaches, ferry, shops and atmosphere of Manly need no further promotion.
Turn west at Fairlight Beach and the Scenic Walkway meanders for 2-3 hours along the harbour edge - it is one of the finest walks in Australia.
Manly Dam and a 50m pool provide more watery pleasures nearby.
There is a new modern shopping centre with Coles, butchers, grocers, Bakers Delight etc a 5-minute walk away in Balgowlah.
Heading north, a glorious string of beaches ends at Palm Beach and beautiful Pittwater.
Finally, of course, you can catch a ferry to the city to explore a huge array of world-famous attractions.
Getting to my home
Sydney Airport is about 40mins by taxi. Much nicer to catch the the airport train and the Manly Ferry though!

Getting around
Most local points of interest are easy to reach on foot, bike, public transport or the freebie bus network.
We have several bikes, including some e-bikes, and can discuss lending these.
We no longer have a car but rent one via GoGet or UberCarShare when we need one.
There is free street parking (although this can be tight in the summer) and we can provide a parking permit for free parking at local beach car parks.

We are a family of 5 and we have lived in Australia for 20 years. Paul and I moved here from the UK and work in architecture and urban planning. The kids are 18, 16 and 11. We love to make sure our house, which is in a prime beach suburb of Sydney, is used whenever we are traveling, and we have had many successful house swaps.
"We want to meet family from the UK for 3 weeks at a 'halfway' place. Thinking south-east Asia (eg Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Indonesia but not limited to these!) but places in the other direction may work.
Open to city, beach, mountain, country."

The downstairs bathroom still has 1950s tiles and blue bath but has been modernised. Both bathrooms are quite small and fit in with the heritage vibes of the house - no luxury ensures here!

Lovely Fairlight Beach is a few minutes walk down the road. It offers safe and sheltered harbour swimming, good snorkelling and a large rock pool.
Famous Manly Beach is about 1.5km away. You can walk along the scenic harbour walkway, ride a bike or catch one of the many buses that pass very close to the house.
From Manly Wharf there are ferry services into central Sydney every 10 minutes. The trip takes 20 mins and it's famously scenic.
