General overview

Our condo in Panama is on a beautiful Pacific beach. It's the perfect place to sit and watch the frigatebirds and pelicans glide over the water and be lulled into a meditative state by the sound and sight of the crashing waves.

The space

Our condo is very comfortable. It's bright and airy with an open floor plan and access to our own patio and green space. We've tried to create a relaxing atmosphere for our guests by outfitting it with stylish and comfortable furnishings. Since the photos were taken, we've added a TV console with flat screen (with cable) in the living room, we actually have bedding for the master bed (lol) and we now have patio furniture! I will update with new images as soon as I receive them. The kitchen has every utensil and appliance you would need. There is a washer (including laundry soap), dryer, laundry sink, iron and ironing board provided. We have a comfortable Queen bed in the master bedroom and 2 comfortable Twin beds in the second bedroom. They can be moved and bridged together to create a King bed upon request. We've provided quality bed and bath linens. There is ample closet space in both the bedrooms. In addition to the air conditioning in each room, there are ceiling fans in the living room, the master bedroom, and on the patio. While the building is on the beach, we chose our unit to face the mountains and pool, so as to eliminate the beach sand from blowing into our home. Still, the beach is less than 80 steps from our patio, and the pool is less than 25 steps. There is also an outdoor shower and a community barbecue grill near the pool. The photos will be updated as decor is added to the unit. (tile in the kitchen, rock on a feature wall, landscaping for the patio, additional artwork, etc.)

Guest access

The development can only be accessed through the guarded gate, and a second electronically controlled gate. Our manager would arrange for you to get a swipe card for the gates. You'll be provided with the codes for access to the building and our unit. Our unit is on the ground floor, and is secure.

Notes

Our unit is brand new, and we just took ownership this past March. The unit is completely cleaned before our guests arrive, however, if you wish to have cleaning services during your stay, our manager can arrange for cleaning staff to come at your expense. We would expect guests to care for our second home as if it were their own and leave it in the same condition as they found it. If there were any issues to arise, we would want to be informed immediately. Please use the outdoor shower to rinse the sand off you before entering the unit, and if you use the community BBQ, please leave the area as clean as possible. We supply towels specifically for the pool and beach. Please remember to bring them back to the unit. Security patrols the development throughout the day and the night. It should be noted that electricity service can sometimes be disrupted within the entire district of Chame. It's inherent to the country. We provide surge protectors for your electronics. We hope you understand and will be patient while service is restored.

Neighbourhood

The Playa Caracol Beach Residences is largely still under development. Our building, Sanctuary, is a smaller structure with only 4 floors and 20 units. At this time, the only 'amenity' within the vicinity is a small surf club that provides surf board rentals and lessons. If you choose to use our condo as 'base camp", venturing further from our beach will take you to opportunities for horseback riding, coffee & tea plantations, zip-lining, farmers markets, guided excursions, social groups to connect up with, surfing, swimming (beware of under tows), beach combing, bird watching, and hiking. You're only limited by how much exploring you're willing to do. Coronado is a 28 km drive to the west. This beach town has great options for restaurants, bars, grocery shopping, salon services, cafes, etc. It has a fairly large expat population. Alternatively, you could head 56 km in the other direction to Costa Verde (La Chorrera) where you'll find larger shopping malls, some big box stores (PriceSmart/Costco), and more really good eating options. Panama City is 87 km and an incredible city to explore. Colonial neighborhoods with quaint shops, beautiful modern sky scrapers and malls with high end designer brand shopping, world class restaurants, and of course, the Panama Canal.

Getting around

Tocuman airport in Panama City is modern and efficient. We strongly suggest renting a car. We can recommend a rental provider (in Coronado) who would meet you at the airport with your rental. Highways are very good. While public transportation within the country, cities and towns is very good and reasonably priced, there is no public transportation to Playa Caracol.

Allison & Brian

My husband Brian and I are open to just about anywhere for travel. Our bucket list includes: Mexico, Panama (other locations), Ecuador, Uruguay, France, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Azores, Majorca, Australia, New Zealand, USA, other areas of Canada, too many other places to list. We will happily accept Globes, because our travel dates will depend on Brian's work schedule until retirement in Spring 2022. He's a biologist, and loves his work. He also loves the outdoors, bird watching, and will take any opportunity to hike in the mountains. Once he retires, we plan to leave our Alberta winter season behind to enjoy warmer locations for up to 6 months. The rest of the year we'd likely vacation for shorter stays. Most of my working life, I was a florist. Last year, I retired from corporate event producing. I've rekindled my love for metalsmithing and design and I'm enjoying the time I get to spend with my grandsons. Our Panama home is not our primary residence. In addition to PLU, it is listed on Airbnb and VRBO. Hopefully by Fall 2021, we'll be adding our condo located in Tulum, MX this year.
