We live literally two mins walk from a huge country park with a lake for fishing, visitors centre, lots of walks and a children’s play park. We often walk through the country park to the city centre, via castle park (another big park) with huge kids playground, sandpit, crazy gold AND Colchester castle. Castle Park has lots of events from food and drink festivals to live music and fireworks. At Christmas they have a lights walk which is awesome.
We are a five minute walk from a big supermarket which has everything you could ever need. The substation is there too with great bus links everywhere. We have a doctors, dentist, pos office, community hall, primary and secondary school, hair and beauty shop and even a dry cleaners. It’s a lovey vibey family friendly area. A couple of miles away we have a sports park and rugby club with cycling facilities, badminton and a gym as well as bowling, restaurants and games arcade and Colchester Football Clubs stadium AND that’s just the immediate area. Colchester zoo is one of the best in the UK and does loads of fun events like fright night at Halloween.
We have farms you can cuddle lambs, nature walks, game bars with ridiculous but hilarious games, pubs, beaches, Mersea Oyster bars, WW2 shelters independent book shops with reading nooks, board, game cafes, line dancing, Ceroc classes, many cinemas to choose from, our favourite one has double reclining chairs and serves food and beer whilst watching the film.
The history around Colchester is incredible — if you’re into stories from the past, there’s so much to see nearby:
Walton-on-the-Naze – coastal cliffs where fossils and ancient bones are still being discovered (and a lovely beach.)
Jumbo Water Tower – Victorian engineering at its grandest, with amazing views from the top.
Colchester Castle – built on a Roman temple, now a brilliant interactive museum. Roman Town Walls & Balkerne Gate – Britain’s oldest surviving Roman gateway and huge stretches of 2,000-year-old walls.
WWII Bomb Crater in Castle Park – a quiet reminder of the war tucked away in the park.
St Botolph’s Priory – beautiful 12th-century ruins you can wander through.
Roman Circus Visitor Centre – remains of Britain’s only known Roman chariot racing track.
Layer Marney Tower – stunning Tudor gatehouse and gardens just outside the town.
Twinkle Star House – once home to crime writer Margery Allingham; a fun stop for book lovers and a pretty piece of literary history.
I could write for hours! Colchester and surrounding areas are awesome. Come and see for yourself.
The Space
We have a beautiful four bedroom detached family home in Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town.
Downstairs has my favourite room; the lounge which pays homage to my love of travel. It’s bright, fun and has a super comfy recliner corner sofa. The kitchen/diner can seat probably up to 10-12 people and it opens into a large space which we use as the kids space (laptops, books etc). The backyard has a big trampoline a lovely seating area for summer sunshine and even autumnal and spring early morning coffee in the bucket chair.
Upstairs we have four double bedrooms. The main room (which is sometimes locked as storage unless needed) as a super king bed, two velux windows and an en-suite with dual head shower.
Bedroom two and three have king size beds in them and bedroom four has a double bed. Family bathroom has a bath and double headed shower and double sink
We have converted our garage into a double office which will be locked.
Open to discussion over car swaps. We have a 9 seater van and it can turn into a double bed for overnight exploring.
We live in a cul-de-sac with 9 of the best neighbours you could ever ask for!
Guest Access
We have a two story house with stairs to the bedrooms. We have a small step into the house. There is a small step out to the back garden as well.

Sarah
I’m Sarah, mother of three kids aged 16, 13 and 10. I love to travel but money is tight. I’d love to connect with people all over the world, experience new places and offer our house as a swap. We live in Colchester (the oldest recorded town in Britain) about 45 mins from london by train.
